These designs were a lot more fun but in the end you won't get back what you really miss. These designs were a reflection of the more open 90s/2000s nature of technology. Tech didn't just look nice but forums were more abundant and you eventually had things like MiiPlaza, Near and Streetpass. Flat design didn't just kill nice looking technology but it killed the open nature of technology entirely. Contemporary social media might seem social but it's mostly just people getting engagement farmed. Websites as we knew them also aren't a thing anymore. Even if stuff becomes nice looking again the experience won't be less hollow.tl;dr time to accept the boomer stamp

>>107620029I guess archival would be the correct term here.
>>107620043Still a stupid idea. Disks lasts like, 5 years at most? You could buy an HDD for a lot less in terms of TB and would last longer.
>>107620076Br should be 10-20 years if not more, but that doesn't really matter. Tape backups need to be verified and rewritten periodically too, which is why I was looking for a tool to do it.
>>107620154There's been research on the longevity of disks. Up to you if you don't want to believe it, it;s your data.Any CD burning software works. Just find one that can change the write speed. Some software might break during mid write and changing the speed to something slower is a way to stop it from happening.
Thinking of doing an 8 drive RAIDZ2, but not with a high end motherboard. But with a motherboard with just 4 sata, and just add 4 more sata with one of these. But AI said this is cheap, which is bad, and I should buy server grade stuff instead.

The game is over, as I am fond of saying. The women won. They are in control of the eugenics program and the multi-trillion-dollar pussy reward system — a highly symbolic fertility ritual. But they are in control of much more than the reproductive apparatus. They control not only the men and government of the United States of America but through the power of pussy and the susceptibility of men and government officials, fiat currency manipulation by the Witches of Fiat Currency at the Federal Reserve System, a large army of simps and "backers" (this is a technically incorrect use of the term) who are fighting to maintain control of the Frankenstein monster they created called Onlyfans (in a war I fear we are going to lose), and even the Republican form of government they created which inevitably—and I would argue by design—fosters centralized female matrilineal control and assures only a handful of "pre-selected" men must be sacralized to control an entire country, they control the entire world.
Look 'ma, I posted it again!

Is there a safer embedded programming language than Rust?
>>107620073You're not white though.
>>107618595it's actually really nice if you have linux running in the embedded system and you can compile program there. With rust you will never have that and having rust in the yocto system makes you unable to build the system on many machines because of the RAM requirements. But yeah of course microcontrollers won't have have compiler.
>>107620079which puts me in the 1% of the above quality posters non-ironically
>>107619884>rust's checker having non-linear time complexity when verifying programsRust is way slower to compile than C but there's nothing non-linear about that so far as I know. All the checking is reasonably straightforward typechecking, including the borrow checker, done with local analysis of function signatures instead of whole-program analysis.Maybe you're thinking of Swift? It does/did have this issue: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12108876Code generation is a bigger problem for compile times, particularly monormophization. But that's a problem shared with C++ and people write immensely huge programs in that. It's annoying but not debilitating.>>107619942There's a lot of higher level logic in the kernel and there's also a lot of room for trivial fuckups.C lets you forget to acquire a lock or increment a reference count. In Rust you can design the API to make that impossible. (In C++ too.)And you're not just doing simple communication with the hardware, you're figuring out what you even want to do, and you're managing userspace. I haven't looked inside the scheduler but surely a lot of it is algorithmic code that has no reason to be unsafe.I listened to an interview with Danilo Krummrich (kernel contributor for like a decade, only recently got into Rust) where he says that the usual development cycle when working on a graphics driver is that you write some new code and you compile it and boot it up and you immediately get a kernel panic with a page fault that you have to debug. While with Rust if it compiles you almost always get to skip that stage and move on to testing if the semantics are correct. So it sounds like the safety checks are doing a lot despite the fundamental unsafety of kernels.
>>107620468>write some new code and you compile it and boot it up and you immediately get a kernel panicsounds like a nocoder skill issue because this never happened to me.

What web browser do you use and why?I use Floorp because I've always had a fuckton of tabs (my record is more than 1157 consecutive tabs) and the browser lets me organize tabs in ways that are useful for me, and I haven't found another browser with better tab organization. It also lets you use firefox extensions and recently added support for chrome extensions, I don't know how that's possible, but I have no use for chrome extensions so it seems superfluous
