is IBM a good place to apply for tech jobs in the current AI climate?

>What do you do?
Customer Manager.
>Whats the management and the pace/workload like?
I've always said that IBM stands for "Incredibly Bad Management" as I frequently disagree with management decisions, often publicly. IBM's history of innovation+fucking it up is pretty well documented. Work/life balance is good, I'm not burgeristani so I've never had pressure to work even a second beyond what's required.
>What do you hate the most about the company?
Too much internal competition and division. It's top-down, pyramidic corporate structure, but given its boomer, large scale multinational status - it's kind of expected.
>>108410482
>I really appreciate those boomers and try to learn as much as I can
I'm in a privileged position that I have access to them. They're great. Sometimes I just chill on calls to listen to them talk.

>I really appreciate those boomers and try to learn as much as I can from them whenever I get the chance, I know one day they'll all be gone and things are going to SUCK and FUCK even more.
Completely agree about learning from the remaining gems of that generation left but we have to make something else that doesn't suck, what that looks like I don't know but probably involves some evolution of silicon valley plus open source culture plus whatever political vibe we need to ride at the moment.
tl;dr evolve to retvrn

Huh, this thread was the last thing I read before going to sleep, and I ended up dreaming that AI had kidnapped me, injected me with something and was keeping me in some sort of testing facility. Then I was running through the streets of some place in India while hordes of Indians either stared or chased me. I was trying to call an Uber, and the driver was Indian too, which I thought ironic.

i dunno as you can see by my setup(s) ive been using arch, for a year now actually, probably will end up switching to artix as i increasingly loathe systemd. i'll say that "learning linux" from arch is nothing but a meme. instead of seeing arch as an absolute reference pointer of every single linux distro you should see arch as what it advertises itself: a user-centric (not user-friendly) lightweight and flexible distro. each distribution exists for its own purpose and one MUST appreciate that fact. i use the distro i chose because it lets me choose exactly what i want, including drivers (nouveau stinks and switching drivers in every other distro is arse, so preferably i'd have the good drivers in the first place)

>GNU+Artix Linux
Good choice. I almost took the plunge, but decided I have invested too much time into Debian based systems to bother caring about other types. There isn't much time left, anyhoo, so why bother. ;3
>and one MUST appreciate that fact
Nope, I have freedom to ignore and choose what to appreciate. No one is entitled to anything.
I will never tell someone they CAN'T use GNU+Arch Linux. Shit, my most favorite time using GNU+Linux was an Arch system (TidOS).
>I use the distro I choose because it lets me
No, homie, you should be choosing what the system does(this has been the case for over 35 years). You aren't a slave to the distro, the maintainers, or the system. Someone has manipulated your young intelligent ass into thinking you are a consumer when it comes to the system on your hardware.
Every OS is shit, the issue is how shit are the lusers installing them.

>Someone has manipulated your young intelligent ass into thinking you are a consumer when it comes to the system on your hardware.
i guess you're right, i've started off my tech journey of sorts as an avid windows user so i guess the corpocuck mindset hasn't entirely left me, which is a bit ironic given how i am very anti-corpo as of recent.

void arena_create(struct arena *arena, size_t size)

>arena.data = malloc(size);
>free(arena->data);
use mmap and munmap

>if (arena->offset + size > arena->size)
>return NULL;
in this case you can allocate a new block, prepend it to the linked list of blocks, allocate from that block
you need to modify you arena type to have linked list of blocks
when requesting a new block, you need to take the requested size into accout, in case the requested size is bigger than the arena block size. you need mmap a big enough block so that allocate what is requested
>>
>>108412785
>void arena_create(struct arena *arena, size_t size)
Due to how how real C calling conventions actually work with returning structs directly, there is basically no advantage to doing this compared to their original, besides code style reasons, unless you were going to return something else to indicate success/failure.
>use mmap and munmap
"Pointlessly unportable" compared to just being a suballocator, but I guess you're just going to throw a little tantrum about any possible use of malloc, regardless of the circumstance.
>in this case you can allocate a new block, prepend it to the linked list of blocks, allocate from that block
If their allocator isn't trying to be a general purpose allocator, that's not necessarily something you want to do.

What's it called when scrolling text on a 300hz screen isn't smooth? sometimes when scrolling and paying close attention is looks like there's a horizontal line in some of the text and it appears twice very briefly.

>>
>>108406691
>thanks, by your description it looked more like tearing than ghosting, however even when scrolling it looks like a horizontal section looks ever so slightly off-white compared to your usual white internet background when scrolling text. it's the kind of thing that drives you mad once you see it, but it's quite minor. i'll have to look at the monitor settings and research as i'm very unfamiliar with monitor settings.
That to me actually sounds more like either:
1. Overdrive on low refresh rate, it can leave some sort of lighter "trail" when scrolling
2. Shitty monitor overclock from factory, try a lower refresh rate if you see horizontal lines with different colors where they shouldn't be. If they disappear, you'll need to create a custom refresh rate of a little lower than 300hz. However, I don't know if this is the case, because these artifacts can be seen without motion (as in you can stop the page at a specific point and see some of these lines).
Keep in mind DSC (display stream compression) is necessary to drive those 300hz if your monitor is 1440p or higher. You disable that and you're already asking too much.

This is what you will have to do if you want to sideload on Android from now on. Why is this allowed?

Step 1: Enable Developer Mode
No more quick toggles. You’ll need to manually enable developer options first.

Step 2: Confirm you’re not being coerced
Android will explicitly ask if someone is guiding you through disabling protections on your device as a direct response to scam tactics.

Step 3: Restart your phone
This cuts off active calls, remote access, or screen-sharing sessions

Step 4: Wait 24 hours
Yes, really. There’s a mandatory one-day waiting period before you can proceed and sideload an app from an unverified developer. Google calls it a “protective waiting period.”

Step 5: Re-authenticate

Step 4 is excessive, it gets too much in the way, especially power users.

For the users is relatively easy. For developers is pretty much impossible. That is why there are basically no solid app distributions outside the Apple app store.

Some people just literally do not read the words on the screen and do not understand that the words mean something. These people are so stupid we HAVE to let them get scammed because we cannot protect everyone. Have fair warnings for people who can read, and if you can't figure out that having an indian tell you to press the "Do not do this if an indian is telling you to do this" button is not a good idea then we have to just let them get scammed.
>>
>>108412931
Nobody is getting redeemed on Android what scammers are asking their victims to install apks on their phones? it makes no sense

do not engage with this "but it will help against scammers "framing when it's clearly disingenuous and just an excuse
exact same strategy as the "but think of the children!!!!" cop-out they always use when personal liberties get restricted
>>
>>108412940
You have no idea.
Think of the average Joe, now keep in mind that 50% of the people are dumber than that.
Even if 5% of the stupid ones gets redeemed, it's still a huge number of people with compromised devices.
You don't fall for it because you are not stupid. You can't outgrow stupidity the same as with age, some people are just dumb and you can't do anything about it.
We require so many obvious labels, warnings, failsafes and restrictions because of stupid people.
