What makes ASML an alien tech company?
23 replies and 2 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>106978506
kek, this doesn't shock anyone
>>
Threadly reminder that ASML exists solely at the behest of the Department of Energy via the original CRADA agreement with Phillips. EUV started as SDI-era excimer laser research, and it's why Sandia National Laboratories is the patent applicant on all EUV LLC patents. What ASML and TSMC do have is proprietary process engineering to maximize the output and minimize the downtime.
>>
>>106978566
>Good. I hope the dutchies told them to go fuck themselves
Unlikely. They're currently seething that they can't sell their EUV machines to China. This despite their lawsuit against some Chinese nationals who ran a front company to steal their secrets for SMIC.
>>
>>106980172
And that only happened because the SVG flopped even if that group was receiving assistance and IP by the goverment for a decade. The existence of a EUV consortium was meant to exclude Japan (Nikon) from advanced lithography, the US attempted to do the same with DUV-i but Japan had enough patents to force a cross licensing.
ASML-Zeiss-BGG achieved something the US couldn't, of course, the light source source relies on laser research of the 1970-1990s.
>>
>>106978506
imagine the tech porn ASML engineers deal with on a daily basis

you got lucky never getting caught in a period between someone (often the jeet) shitting out a random segfault and someone discovering it and cleaning it up after him.

Don't remember, I'm going to extrapolate that Dreamhost provided all of those things as part of the shared hosting plan. Except for websockets, which I didn't use. I would just swap out the config values for the database and smtp, upload my app code, and it would work. The deploys weren't automated at all.

>How does Rails compare to Django?
Django is the Rails clone for Python
Rails is somewhat more straightforward than Django, as an example no sub-apps
Rails/Ruby also has had the bundler package manager for a long time, whereas in Python you have like a dozen different choices
But Ruby doesn't have some Python focused libraries like numpy, pandas/arrow, tensorflow, and the other popular ML/AI libs.

They're basically larger phones. I've only bought Amazon Fires and used them to sideload apps, listen to music, read books and comics, and once in a while watch shows and movies.
I always found it easier to use a laptop for videos or searching, it's too slow to type more than a few words without an attachable keyboard.

Do decent 8" tablets exist anymore lads? I've had a practically perfect 8" Sony Xperia tablet for a decade now, but the battery is finally giving in. From my cursory research smaller tablets are a dying niche, and new ones are all in the +10" range.

You're so full of shit it's hilarious. You can already buy preloaded cards with music from certain companies, so the idea has already been explored. Secondly, the SD spec already allows implementation of DRM so that has nothing to do with it. It's all down to cost and complexity. A plastic disc with a microscopic amount of aluminum is always going to be cheaper and faster to produce that some tempermental storage standard. Then you get into the issue of FAT which couldn't even hold an HD quality movie until somewhat recently without splitting the file, which means more work to come up with another standard. It's only recently that the cards themselves have even become cheap enough to make this possible. Your pedantic freedomfagging doesn't divorce you from the laws of economics.

The fuck is the point of a video platform with no content on it? These aren't imaginary weaknesses, no one uploads to these alternative sites.

I got hit by this a few minutes ago. Any way to get around it, or do I have to pay for a burner phone number just to make a new account?
>>
>>106980182
All it'll do is restrict you from watching Adult Content (sexy videos and rated R movies).
If you don't care about anonymity, the credit card is easiest.
You could try to be cheeky and take a selfie of some random dude's face, but that might be illegal? Dunno. The email option is basically giving a third party receipts to your inbox that'll look for whether or not you are paying bills or shit like that to verify you are an adult.
>>
>>106977993
This isn't the problem. People think Youtube is a service, but it isn't. Youtube is a library of content, and unless some other platform has Youtube's library then there can be no competition.
>go to not!Youtube
>"hello yes I am looking for [funny video]"
>"sorry, we don't have that, it was only uploaded to Youtube. Go back there, or something."
And people upload to Youtube to begin with because that's where all the people are, and the people are there because that's where people upload. It's a vicious cycle and the only way to break it would be either a massive migration of content, or a massive deletion of content, or new rules that would make further uploading/viewing of content impossible.
>>
>>106980247
>sexy videos and rated R movies
Its a lot more than that. Youtube loves to arbitrarily age restrict videos for no reason. I found out I was ID required by attempting to watch one of those innocuous "why is this age restricted" videos.

Prices have already risen and they do not drop any more. As you can see year long waits are expected for 30TB+ HDDs.

The same applies to RAM and SSDs too, OpenAI plans to buy 40% of all NAND in the world next year, going directly to SK Hynix and Samsung, purchasing the wafers themselves before they are even turned into chips, other AI companies will snap up the rest, there will be nothing left for end users.

OpenAI's Stargate project has a $500 Billion budget and they plan to spend all of it.
