Why do people buy shit like android boxes, Apple TV and pic related instead of just connecting an old phone to the TV with a HDMI cable?

Wanna know the fucked up thing? When cutting corners for the Mini, they went with cutting out internet connectivity instead of cutting out the disc drive; I knew people who used their Wii to watch Netflix right up until they discontinued it. Nintendo could've unironically made a discless model that just did WiiWare and streaming apps, and sell it with little to no changes for years

Because an android tv box is cheaper than a thin client and you can control it with your smartphone.

GrapheneOS discredited them

>It's not a theoretical problem. There have been numerous cases of F-Droid reintroducing vulnerabilities patched by apps and breaking the security of apps. F-Droid also rarely every notices when apps make changes they consider a problem prior to publishing the updates but rather they mark their list of anti-features or patch the app retroactively. It's only when an app very openly does something detected by their basic scanning that they'll deal with it prior to publication. It's a misconception that it provides any protection from app developers since they publish whatever is published by app developers unless they did something like including a closed source library detected by their scans, which can be tested by someone malicious in advance. Multiple F-Droid core developers have also repeatedly covered up vulnerabilities, misled people about how things work and other actions demonstrating it isn't trustworthy.
>>
>>107586683
Isn't the maker of GrapheneOS the same guy that created CoppheadOS, which is another security focused android spinoff that sells user data?
I'm sure he's trustworthy now with the Google titan blobs though.

Oh my god what's wrong with your faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaűtőtest?

yeah I got a whole proccess worked out since I draw best on a specific type of paper and such
first I draw and paint the background, and can it in.
for the animation I draw each frame in pencil, and outline in pen, leaving behind pencil lines for shading an motion lines, etc
I scan a whole pile of frames into my computer with my top loading scanner
after that I load the image into the GIMP and use the color erase feature to turn the black and white image into a black inking on transparent background, making sure to set the color mode to greyscale to cut out any artifact colors
then I use the path tool to outline certain parts of the image, such as the shading and so forth, and store those in a separate layer for later
then I use the fill tool with the line art setting, you have to tweak the threshold just right to get it to work properly, on a background layer, this takes care of the initial coloring, now you bring back the shading layer from before and repeat the process for the shading tones (don't use black, look up shading using color theory it's a whole different beast)
it sounds like it takes a long time but I can kick out 30-40 seconds of drawn cells every day and the color work only takes a few days more than that, so I can do about 10 minutes of full color animation at 24 fps every month

This is not a drill, it's finally confirmed that China has a working EUV prototype since early 2025, it's just undergoing testing and verification right now, expected to enter large scale production by 2028-2030.

>In a high-security Shenzhen laboratory, Chinese scientists have built what Washington has spent years trying to prevent: a prototype of a machine capable of producing the cutting-edge semiconductor chips that power artificial intelligence, smartphones and weapons central to Western military dominance, Reuters has learned. Completed in early 2025 and now undergoing testing, the prototype fills nearly an entire factory floor.

>The availability of parts from older ASML machines on secondary markets has allowed China to build a domestic prototype, with the government setting a goal of producing working chips on the prototype by 2028, according to the two people. But those close to the project say a more realistic target is 2030, which is still years earlier than the decade that analysts believed it would take China to match the West on chips.

>The breakthrough marks the culmination of a six-year government initiative to achieve semiconductor self-sufficiency, one of President Xi Jinping's highest priorities. While China's semiconductor goals have been public, the Shenzhen EUV project has been conducted in secret, according to the people.

no shit it’s going to be difficult to establish a foothold when there are behemoths already dominating the market, that’s why people take risks and make sacrifices in terms of their stack and workflow, they’re fighting an uphill battle just so you get to enjoy whatever niche or otherwise industry standard thing on linux natively, without any of this wine proton bullshit
>>
>>107585897
>you’re making a supply and demand problem sound like something that is inherent to the linux ecosystem in itself
No.
And I'm not missing it, it's just of no use to me or anyone else in same position at the moment what so ever. You're splitting hairs and fucking periods and commas? Why do we have a failure to communicate here? Autism? (sincerely, not being an ass)
>>107585919
The DAY that the tools that I need for my work and hobbies run on Linux I'm off Windows forever. A 5ft kid is never going to dunk on a basketball court - he has some growing to do.

The fact that it's impossible to do certain things on Linux today is not a personal attack against you, or a diss against Linux. That's how things stand at the moment. Just like Linux excels at things that Windows can't even hope to touch.
>>
>>107585919 (cont. once more)
and even then it is up to whatever developer is responsible for the drivers and software whether they will port it to linux or not, the least one can do is make them notice.
your case demands an insane amount of sacrifice which would SINGLEHANDEDLY cripple your workflow to unimaginable degrees and i perfectly understand why you wish not to make it. moving to linux means measuring pros, cons, risks and sacrifices, how to adapt in such an environment, how to achieve the same result with alternative tools if any and will it even be worth it in the long term, and the answer to the last one is always yes. even successfully preaching the gospel of linux WITHOUT using it is a move that will benefit you as a future linux user because then more entities will consider linux as a worthy platform, therefore creating more demand with more supply, creating more opportunities to preach the gospel, and then you reach the point where you can finally switch to linux yourself with all (if not, most) of the tools you missed being available on linux, the key is playing the long game

the guy on facebook said "Actually looks like one of the drives has pending sectors" but all three smart screenshots of different drives looks exactly the same in regard to "current pending sector count". Though now that I look closer it seems like "off-line uncorrectable sector count" is different.
I am too young to have experienced the hdd era, so I'm just trying to make sure I understand whats happening here. Do I need to? is reading the status alone enough
>>
>>107586362
>current pending sector count
>off-line uncorrectable sector count
these are (usually) not bad news but require an action to be taken
the majority of the time i experience those in a form of soft bad sectors as in something somewhere somehow caused the data corruption and the sector data became unreadable
easiest fix is to zero the drive, as in write zeroes to the entire disk space. this fixes the soft bads
of course it might also be a hardware issue but that's something that has to be figured out. i had some headaches with supposedly dying hard drives
anyway both >>107586181 >>107586362 look good

Stupid fucking amd drivers are only recognizing hdmi for audio when I have an hdmi monitor plugged into my razer usb4 dock but I want it pushed through my main monitor hooked up through DP. I suspect this is because the hdmi has a higher display ID than the dp port, is there a way to override this so amd hd audio sees the dp port with higher precedence over the hdmi port? well to be completely honest much of the AI craze from the smaller players like libre or even firefox is just fear and survival
From the point of view of the normies:
>AI = hottest thing in tech
>Big pants player like Jewgle Chrome has plenty of AI capabilities
>Safari / Brave the same
If you don't have AI do you even exist or are just an hobbist unserious browser? That's survival, Firefox cannot afford to be percieved as a third class alternative that is not up to latest tech.
Crusty powerusers using vim since 1990 can be appeased with a big "Turn this shit OFF" button. They are not relevant 1% (vocal minority) of 1% (powerusers) of 1% (desktop market)

A CEO even the shittiest CEO in the world should aim to conquer the entire market. You don't do that with something like:"hello world: we perform like shit, don't have the latest cool tech nor plan to, but it's fine we can survive with handouts, also we don't steal your data and have a super good adblock from a third party"
>>
>>107585122

A lot of people are incapable of imagining that anything could be different outside their experience

Google anti adblock measures have doing partial rollouts for awhile now. Like Google will do some anti adblock rollout that will only target a few users then Google goes quiet and does more testing before another partial rollout

But average "power user" that knows how to click thing will constantly remind you that it works him
