For not exactly being an 'open' platform, x86/UEFI really does give you a lot of freedom.

I just bought one and it's unironically the best monitor I've ever used in my life. Nothing else comes even close to the quality of this thing. And that's not even considering the build quality of the stand and how smooth the height adjustment is. How is it that Apple always so far ahead of the entire computer industry with their high end products?

So many impoverished thirdies sperging in any thread that mentions Apple products that cost over $1,000.

>>108354363it'd probably help a little bit, but likely not as much as you'd think. for most software you still only need to make one version of a program, most distros are very similar. just target the oldest LTS distro you want to and anything newer will run the program as well, like ubuntu lts from one or two versions ago.as an example look at steam, the regular steam linux release is officially only for ubuntu, but people use it on any distro anyway.
>>108354407same as on windows (that is, not at all as long as it's not being used to access resources on the computer over the internet)
>stable distro>but it's OUTDATED>the packages are OUTDATED!I don't get itif it's stable that means everything works, right?
>>108354363>>108354425-- like even for software not like steam where you don't want third parties making packages/distributing it (steam can be found in other distro's repos as steam itself is freely distributable), making separate packages for a few distros isn't hard at all, it can be the same exact software just with a few automated commands to turn it into different package types. or use a generic installer (like GOG games do) or use a generic bundle format like appimagei will add that only having one distro won't help linux in general, one of the benefits of linux is that it is an ecosystem that be moulded to fit many more uses than desktop windows can (i say desktop windows but is windows ce even a thing anymore?)
>>108354441unless you're using brand new hardware that actually needs a new kernel/mesa/etc, or you just need newly made features/want the best possible performance... yea most people are perfectly fine using a stable/lts distro, and given no specific requirements i would recommend one by default

The percentage that it reports while the voltage curve *isn't* steep is always an estimate, and the voltage dropping near the end of discharge is one of the things that grounds these estimates. Usually once the voltage drops below a certain threshold (in smarter controllers this might be adjusted by the discharge current), the reported percentage jumps from the previous estimate to a hardcoded 6% or 5%.

What are some cool addons to use your steam deck as a back up pc on the go? I'm hoping to maybe use teamviewer to phone back to my home pc. Are there any cool docks for the steamdeck with power pd, etc, etc. What do you guys use to use it as a pseudo laptop on the go?

>>108354154>>108354174I dualboot win 10 ltsc specifically to play two games. it’s nice to have. both keyboards and my monitor have software that obviously only work in windows and macos so I just hop on over to my windows partition when necessary. super easy, just ran the clover install script and it’s been perfect so far, casually waiting for it to break but nothing yet. but 95% of my time is in steamos. I take design classes too and need certain software for assignments but these actually run great on linux. use libreoffice for essays and such and note taking. I’m not going to give you my whole plebbit ass life story but I decided to use my steamdeck as my primary computer tablet laptop gaming rig hybrid thing because of circumstance and instead of going out and buying a new ipad mini or mid range laptop, I was like, wait, I already have the steamdeck. I’ll just use that and see how it goes. and it’s awesome. keep waiting for the special unforeseen reason why it can’t work but, why would it? it’s literally just a linux computer crammed inside a gameboy. I would say the only thing that I’d prefer an ipad for is reading ebooks. but even that is… fine? pleasant even? lower the lcd brightness, turn on some warmth in nightmode, and just tap through the pages with the bumpers. I dunno. I do think the future of computers are devices like the steamdeck. whereas apple is segmenting their usecase through different devices, you can sort of just do it all with this one linux based thing with a bunch of gaming based input.
