>technically it isn't mine since it's only mine while I work at the company but they pay for all of the maintenance and I have no restrictions as far as number of miles I can drive per month, etc)
have you calculated how much you have saved by having this car? probably not much at all
also, are you fully in office?
I'm not american, but judging from what you are saying and what others say about life + salaries in california, you should be asking for far more than $20k. problem, of course, is that you risk getting a "no". maybe you should ask your coworkers or something about their wages.
is it a big tech company? if so, they should be able to pay more.
why hasn't your boss given you a raise already? why would you need to ask in the first place?
your best option would be to find another much better paid job (that's the usual strategy for getting big wage raises in tech), though seeing how bad things are in murica it might be kinda hard. OTOH, if you are comfortable at your current place and don't really spend or plan on spending much more in the future, I guess you shouldn't worry much. getting more money is always nice, though.

Well my ancient car died on me about 3 weeks before the promotion and my boss asked if I needed anything, to which I replied, a car. When I was looking at prices during those 3 weeks, it was gonna cost $300/month for something decent, and the car they gave me is brand new and really nice. Leasing/financing it would have easily been $600/month. So at the absolute minimum, they saved me $3600/year but they gave me a car that probably would've cost double that
>also, are you fully in office?
Yes but they're flexible and I gather business requirements since I'm a team lead of this big project so it's mostly out of necessity, not because I have to be in the office all the time
>is it a big tech company?
Nah, it's a startup
>why hasn't your boss given you a raise already?
He's explained that he wants to do performance reviews for everyone after we finish our current projects, which I was fine with at first but the deadlines keep getting pushed because of so many lagging, external factors. The current deadline is the first or second week of January, which isn't long from now. I genuinely do love working here and I've learned way more in the past year than I probably would have doing any other job, they really just let the developers have at it and there are some really great technical leads that I've learned a ton from too. I just want more money, that's it, other than that I love my job

I use zram because Fedora uses it by default. But it's nowhere near enough and my system kept shitting itself, so I configured an additional swap partition and with both I never had issues again

There is probably a way to grab an old GPU and use its memory as swap space. Might even be able to use its chips for compression if you wanted to get fancy.

Usually I only answer questions on these threads, but I actually have a question today:

What do you guys do when you have similar but still disparate subsystems that you see a way to integrate using abstractions, but aren't sure if it's even a good idea to do so; or even worse, when you see multiple ways to combine them, and you're not sure which to choose? (Right now I'm waffling between message passing and casting to interfaces with null checks. Dynamic designs always fuck with my perfectionism tendencies)
>>
>>107616248
>perfectionism tendencies
step one: delete those from your brain.
>>
>>107616248
My language does not have interfaces.
>>
>>107613156
is this in an engine or something you made?
>>
>>107616248
Depends on "why are the disparate?" and "how much will it cost?". If they're off-the-shelf systems you're tying together, that's one thing, but if it's your own design and you find yourself having to awkwardly jam stuff together, that's often (in my experience) indicating some large flaw in the design. Conversely, if you're just converting library A to library B's representation, and it takes 500uS, then say "fuck it", take a shot, and implement the dumb conversion code tagged with FIXME:

If those questions don't provide you an answer, then consider "Is this a pattern I'll end up using more in this project? Could some overarching system solve both/all those problems elegantly (without taking longer than the project itself)?"
You should at least be able to say "If I had unlimited time, I would tie these together with (X) because ...", and then "(Y, Z) can substitute for (X) with (downsides)". Figure out what tradeoffs you're looking at, then pick the one least likely to screw future (you) over.

Hospitals in America are satanic temples, who extract tithes from their congregation in the form of disease and the screams and blood of newborn males. Any amount of money to keep the blood and suffering flowing is absolutely okay for the cultists in the medical industry.

us insurance companies are by law only allowed to take out a small percentage of payouts as profit. the immediate and obvious effect of this is that the only way to increase the profitability of your insurance company is to increase medical costs

reducing overhead, making treatments cheaper and more effective will directly reduce your profitability

True, pretty much anything that performed as strong or better than a PS3 or XBOX 360 stayed relevant for so long, because the 7th gen of consoles really overstayed their welcome to the point where by the time the PS4 came out, most PC gamers had a stronger PC, and then when the 750Ti came out, pretty much all PC gamers had as strong a GPU as a PS4 because they were such weak consoles.

Absolutely not. No other controller has trackpads and capacitive sticks and grips. Those are much more useful than any of the features third party controllers usually have.
>even the polling rate
That's a fair complaint, but I'd say the SC is still better overall. Plus, I don't think we actually know what polling rate it uses yet, the specs on the website are specifically for the puck, not the controller.
>even durability
Honestly, as long as it's durable enough to not turn into dust when holding it, it doesn't really matter past that. You're not throwing your controller, are you?

You're going to ignore all the built in features such as the extra buttons, wider compatibility as well as the TMR which has a proven track record of being more durable than anything else?
The steam controller was discontinued and not replicated for a reason and no amount of cope is ever going to fucking change that anon

Trackpads, which allow up to 16 actions each, more with multiple action layers, make having 2 or 3 extra buttons irrelevant.
>wider compatibility
The Steam controller works with every single game via Stesm input.
>as well as the TMR
It has TMR retard.
>The steam controller was discontinued and not replicated for a reason
Wait I think we had a misunderstanding. I was talking about the new one. Though now that you brought it up, the first one was discontinued because Valve got sued by a patent troll for having back buttons and were forced to stop selling it.

The only problem we've had since the block is the random dumb faggot attempting to push tranny/queer propaganda. But they are few and far between and easy enough to ban without worrying about it.
