I ain't doing no survey, but to answer your question: It was seeing Windows continue to get worse with no end in sight. Windows 7 was really the last great Windows OS. I skipped 8 and went to 10. 10 was usable, for the most part. But Microsoft kept fucking with things and you had set registry keys to fix it, and then a few updates later they would change the keys you'd need to set. The final straw was the release of 11 and how much worse it seemed then even 10. At that time I started to make a real effort to switch to Linux. I knew Microsoft was eventually going to force the switch and I didn't want to be caught with my pants down when it happened.

I had used Linux previously for random projects but never seriously as my main desktop. In the past I had used a combination of Debian and LXQT. I liked LXQT, but wanted a few more features for my main desktop and so went for Debian with KDE. My first attempt to switch did not go well. It was a stuttery mess that I had tried to troubleshoot for a few weeks before giving up and returning to Windows 10. This was likely due to a combination of Debian's old drivers and the GTX 1080 I had at the time. A few months later I tried again with KDE Neon, because I figured if any distro would give me a good experience with KDE, it would be their own. And it was great, and I still run KDE Neon now. I will say KDE 6 is perhaps not as polished as 5 was, but I still do like KDE.

what if companies are mass buying hardware not only because of AI, but to push people into a cloud ecosystem in the future?

imagine a future where most consumer hardware can only run a browser and very lightweight stuff, and the rest needs to be done though cloud services

>Everyone can change
I assure you the SECOND this shit starts to impact the ability for druggies and alcoholics to shit up every nation on earth the whole project will burn down overnight lmao
There are too many people who simply need to be pulled from the streets and terminated, they have no chance of recovery and no amount of stupid tech bullshit can fix them. They are already visible with the naked eye to anyone with a pulse, they are black, white, brown, arab, asian and every shade inbetween.

A society in the shape of a utopia cannot be created by trying to make dogshit sticky enough to hold that shape you need to use a clean material.
>>
>>107555161
As long as the government doesn't intervene in stopping the production of hardware, as prices rise margins also rise and create an opportunity for new producers to enter the market
It's not guaranteed because nothing is guaranteed. AI is destined to fail anyway, it's revolutionising things but margins will lower easily. These companies are basically investing for nothing but they're using freshly printed government money anyway.
>>
This is being done by a desperate scam company to hinder it's competition. Even NVIDIA is backing out on some of it's plans to support them because despite all the hardware they burn they keep getting smacked by more efficient models. We're caught in the crossfire of a literal fucking retard given unlimited VC capital because he looooooves sucking dick
>>
These threads are made by tech inept people. I could comfortably use 4GB of RAM on any popular Linux distribution and probably would be fine with two. Plenty of people run pretty intense workloads with 8GB Macbook Airs which are usually the most powerful laptops with just 8GB of Ram. 99% of people have 16GB of RAM or more and if one of their sticks die they won't need to change to a fucking cloud because they would still have 8GB of RAM.
>>
>>107555161
>but to push people into a cloud ecosystem in the future?
How long precisely do you feel it practical to restrict the ability to purchase?
What about all the manufacturers without a "cloud presence"? Why would they play this game? Whilst they're waiting out the market for all the existing and usable devices to die and losing sales consistently in the process....

>imagine a future where most consumer hardware can only run a browser and very lightweight stuff, and the rest needs to be done though cloud services
you mean the '60s/70s? When you interfaced a terminal because that was cheap and you shared computer time across the network because it was expensive and the computer was the size of a f'kin building.

Foids are absolutely not attracted to sausage fest hobbies. Want to attract more of them? Have more handsome 6-ft tall, blue eyes, strong jaw, and manly hand programmers to be the face of programming, then you'll have more foids flock to this field. The positive of this is that there would be more foids in this field. The negative effect is that foids would be doing performative programming to attract gigachads. This would also make all the 2 incher pa/g/eets seethe endlessly because zero foids are actually interested in Loonix or any other meme OS (including LaurieWired) but on how to maximize their chances of able to do jumping jacks on Brad's thundercock

>>

There is no market for AI, everyone "competing" with each other is what drives speculation up causing the bubble.
If only one company remained it would still not make a profit, by far, because there is no market for their service.
It's funny how people really, really want there to be a market so they come up with imaginary scenarios where everyone gets replaced by this shit, meanwhile it can't even do customer service better than a chatbot from 2010, it just sounds more natural.

no one responded but on the off chance anyone cares about something similar;
ended up just going with an hp elitebook 845 g8. 5650u is more or less on par with 4750u(seems worse on multithreading but better single core and better on battery while having identical APU performance) and while you can get 4750u systems for $200~ they're usually C grade(or worse) wear levels, without charger or random other bullshit. Meanwhile there seems to be a pretty heavy firesale on this specific elitebook SKU across multiple vendors and even "real" vendors like newegg are selling refurbs for $230~ and you're getting it at "excellent" wear rating and likely better battery health. Which is technically important since shit isn't for me but for a kid and it's not cool to force them to deal with random dumbass quirks.
tbdesu if you want a low cost APU machine it seems like it's just a solid option in general. Can't even really price out a set top box at the same performance level as far as I can tell(you could do a bit better if you spend more and get a real GPU but then you're spending more and it's not a laptop). though if you don't need /care about the APU and just want a shitposting machine I probably would've gone with something else.
