READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

No one gives a shit if a game or program is 99% AI code, but if any part of the front end is touched by AI it's time to riot.

Far more people's jobs are at risk from AI language related tasks but the entire anti ai movement is based on shitty twitter artists doodles

>No one gives a shit if a game or program is 99% AI code
That's not true, people don't want to play vibe coded video games, people don't like vibe coded software, and why do you think that is? It's because vibe coded software barely works half the time and is made by people who have no fucking idea what they're doing. You just posted a made up narrative as a subtle divide and conquer attempt to get people to side with AI corporations, because you need public sentiment to be high when it comes to your eventual public bailout, courtesy of the taxpaying public.
>>
>>107678768
because most artists are poor and easily replaceable, unlike coders.

That is pretty strange. Probably just for an art project, maybe trying to film some music video or something? 15 of them... gee
>I don't really have a reason to spec whore much
The crazy electronics engineering in super high scan rate CRTs I find cool. Even an old 77KHz budget monitor has deflection circuitry far stronger than any 480p TV. Most of the high spec CRTs were sold for sane prices a decade back from their original owners. Now, most in possession of one are fucking redditors or trannies relisting them for 1000+. High prices yet the tube is also worn out. Loads of clueless people now listing budget monitors for £400+ cuz "retro gamin".

Do you guys know where to get high quality replacement parts, then? I'm afraid to go on eBay and buy whatever is available and cheap. Last time I did that for another part for a DS lite and the seller essentially stole a good $15 from me. Tldr, I got my money back after 3 months of contacting eBay and my credit card to report fraud. I don't want to go through that again.

My colleagues use AI to write comments on my PRs
A Junior colleague doesn't know what a primary key is but he insisted he wants to write a SQL script which we need to execute on live environment
We had an argument with another developer, he used AI to create counter arguments on my arguments
We had to delete lots of rows and one of the developers came up with SQL Server Heaps (first time I see them)

I don't disagree with the possibility of causation but that study isn't evidence of it (unless they tested the same people before and after using AI). Could just be that dumb people rely on AI more.

I think you need:
Add-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online `
-PackagePath ".\Microsoft.WindowsTerminal_1.23.13503.0_8wekyb3d8bbwe.msixbundle" `
-LicensePath ".\license.xml" `
-DependencyPackagePath @(
".\Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00.UWPDesktop_14.0.33728.0_x64.appx",
".\Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00_14.0.33519.0_x64.appx",
".\Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.8.appx"
)

I am not sure about the dependencies as I installed winget first which needed Microsoft.WindowsAppRuntime.1.8_8000.616.304.0_x64.appx
But I think you don't need that as it's winget only.

Now that the dust has settled, was RTFM (Reading the Effing Manual) a good thing? Did it ever help you out? LLMs have rendered RTFM moot and there's a new generation of "programmers" who won't RTFM, ever. Do you think they'll be worse programmers?

>>

why would you need to understand the code? newer LLMs can create code consistently frok good plans - which you can understand without docs
>>
>>107684288
Reading documentation has always helped and is a good thing so long as the documentation was well written. There were some API docs that were pretty much useless and I had to experiment before writing my own much more worthwhile documentation.
LLMs lie frequently because being correct is not part of their training, and the new generation of "programmers" are already demonstrably worse since my entire workload has shifted to cleaning up their irreparable messes. Just as bad as, if not worse than jeet code.
