So I just need to do basic tasks like listen to music, stream video, and browse basic websites. Is installing windows 2000 a bad idea? How fucked will I be for drivers?

The reason I want to do this for one, it's botnet free, and two it was the most streamlined of classic operating systems. I really have a boner for Windows 2000 and I just want to know if it's even moderately viable to use in this day and age.

Not really IMO, I mean sure you can I guess but you would most likely be fucked for drivers unless the machine is from that era though. Many XP drivers are somewhat tweakable (Windows 2000 is version 5.0 and XP is 5.1). I wouldn't bother but give it a shot and report back. You could also install a lightweight Loonix system that only runs a Win2K VM but whatever.

I don't get it, why aren't people upgrading your RIG now if you know you'll need to replace it within the next 5 years? Even consoles are going up in price, steam machine is looking to be near $1k and PS5 Pro is $700 for console and prob another $150 for peripherals.

Generational leaps in graphics aren't really gonna happen anymore and the 5090/4090 might last for a decade.

I've got a 7950X3D and a 4090. 5090 is only a measly 25% faster and I'm not retarded to pay like 2500-3000EUR or something like that for 25%. I don't mind spending but what I'm getting for the money has to be somewhat reasonable and proportional to the cost, 5090 is not even close, it's a massive disappointment of a product and one of the worst gen-on-gen perf increases in like 10-15, even 20 years maybe.

9950X3D also isn't a massive departure from my 7950X3D, I will probably upgrade with Zen 6 since it's rumored to be more of a major shakeup. Already have 64GB of 6000MT/s CL30 RAM and I don't need any more than that so I'm good there.

Different capacitor types have different lifespans. The electrolytic capacitors that you might find inside of a computer power supply can and usually do start to go bad starting at the 5ish year mark. Capacitors with liquid dielectrics eventually leak.

The smaller, surface mounted ceramic capacitors, aka the little tan ones you see on almost everything else like memory, graphics cards, and cpus, can last very very long. What might reduce that very long lifespan is usually limited to poor design in the circuits that use them.

I barely upgraded from a GTX 1080 weeks ago

My experience after using space for about 6 months and doom for 2 years:

spacemacs
- slow
- uses many obsolete packages
- updates often break shit
+ documentation all in one place
+ very nice setup for clojure and lisp
+ more complete keybinding setup
+ has emulation modes in other editors like vscode

doom
- documentation very fragmented and full of annoying stubs
- custom.el doesn't work right

You could always try installing python3 in cygwin and then installing yt-dlp with pip. You'll probably need to fiddle around figuring out what packages it depends on, though.

This might also work, since from what I've read the issue is with python > 3.8:

here is a solution:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Installation_guide
can you follow simple instructions?
i also managed to find out in < 1minute that MSYS2 and anaconda require Windows 10, but Docker Toolbox (not Docker for Windows) supposedly supports windows 7.
so there you go. a proper solution. and a potential one that may allow you to stay a wintard in the main.
now, if you still can't figure it out after that, then you can't take offence when someone calls you a hopeless wintard.

but now you have stupid vimscript and lua configs? try to remember too, elisp is not just for config files. it feels like that in practice but most of the core functionality of the editor is in elisp.
vimscript was always an obvious abomination, neovim is going the right way by moving away from it.. but to lua?? it will never reach the coherence and extensibility and mutability that emacs has always had.

You should do a deep dive into Elisp to get to know it. Despite its age, it has some nice parts too.

you dont need anything other than html javashit and css.

you can use expressJS for the front/backend server code if you want to simplify things, and then just run a postgres image for the db

Tech bros are the antithesis of humanity and soul. Also they wouldn't pay an artist to make a new Clippy mascot because like all corpos these days they don't want to give money/residuals to artists. Like the only LLM that actually has a face is Grok i.e. that blonde anime girl bitch.

You may be wondering what I've been up to. Well, I was laid off from meta in february due to performance after being there for 9 months. So naturally, I started drinking a lot and then decided to travel around in airbnbs and prepare for interviews after my lease ran out. Well i did travel around in airbnbs but instead of interview prep I drank a lot and smoked crack with prostitutes. That was rough, so I went to rehab. I've been staying at my mom's for a minute after rehab but I'm drunk tonight. I've been doing really well though. Been studying my ass off and working out. Feel very prepared for interviews. Nigger
