It's not just windows. Chrome does that too, scans whole drive every single day trashing the drive and uploads log to jeet mothership.

>Yes they would I've used every major Windows version since 3.11.
You have to be over 18 to post here.

>7 is snappy running from a period correct 7200 RPM HDD.
No it's not. With a 7200rpm drive they will, at best, manage to boot up on a fresh new install. If you use any modern application or even just an antivirus, they will slow down to a barely useable crawl. One of the first things we used to do when servicing Windows 7 machines was to change the boot drive to an SSD, fortunately they all use at most 500GB HDDs inside so it's easy to just do an image copy to a same size SSD, then run from that and have everything be 1000x faster.

Shit, I have an old Turion laptop somewhere that took ten minutes to boot Win7 from a HDD, then I swapped one of my old spares in and now it's snappy as Speedy Gonzalez, I mean as long as you don't do anything that would require CPU calculations or use more than 2GB of RAM (so basically one browser tab only).

>what exactly does the 'optimize drives/disks'
just leave it be unless you have spinning rust you need to defrag

there are very few reasons for screwing around with TRIM (garbage collection) in windows for mortal /users/

one simple example of why you might want to disable TRIM is if you're realtime recording a stream of time-domain sensitive data, e.g. the image output of an X-ray flouroscope aimed at a human heart while you thread a stent into it because maybe you don't want to have any.fukken.thing.go.wrong with that datastream at that moment.

you can change Windows trim behavior with "fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify NTFS" and then 0 to disable or 1 to enable

>modern SSDs perform TRIM on their own
yep, the drive should TRIM itself *when its not busy or needs to*, if not it's shit firmware, but it's better for the OS to tell it to TRIM on schedule because the drive firmware may wait a long time to TRIM and thus the firmware TRIM operation will steal some IOPS for longer as there are more garbage blocks to collect.

im relegating my old laptop to retro games and i want to put windows 7 on it, its a hp 15 with a ryzen 3250u, how is driver support and where can i get the drivers?
>>
>>107691993
Thanks for explaining.
>just leave it be unless you have spinning rust you need to defrag
You mean if I need to do it manually? I actually still run a 1TB spinning rust drive to store a few shows. It's usually left half full at most since I migrate and back up any that I enjoyed to externals.
>>
>>107692012
Best you can get is using SDIO and hoping it finds drivers for you.
Make sure to use something like Windows 7 Updated v5 to have built in NVMe and USB3 drivers.
>>
>>107692228
>if I need to do it manually
yes but it's safe to just schedule it and forget about it unless you have some specific need to defrag

all of this automated disk maintenance is pretty old hat for windows and seems to be one of the things they didn't fuck up with W11

The Intel Managment Engine, even when neutralized by ME Cleaner, will still activate the Wake on Lan module, you can verifiy this or the e1000e.

You can still "disable" it with ethtool, but to whether or not it actually is disabled I do not know

I debugged the ME and it does NOT respond to ME Version Queries, running intelmetool shows that it is in Factory Mode, it reports its state as being Initalizing, and the phase it reports is BUP where it halts.

I believe the factory state might be exposing a debug mode, even when the HAP Bit is set.

I have both the Intel ME Soft Temporary Disable patch and HAP bit is set to 1.

Anyone have any ideas about this? Run ethtool on your network interface and see if WoL status is reported, especially if you have an e1000 or e1000e NIC

>>
>>107690461
I think I worded it wrongly. I think one of the major differences between right and left is if you hypothetically have a perfect setting for a society, infinite resources, no external enemies, no stupid mentally ill people, would you prioritise equality as the ultimate goal or rather a world where exceptional people have more privileges. It can be exceptional even by just birthright. Then once we get these two positions settled the rest is just adapting world view based on what is practical. Big government socialists are pro-government ownership because they realise anarchism is impossible (at least now) so it is better if government owns everything as opposed to big corporations because you at least can vote for the government and politicians have taking care of you as part of their job title. This btw was the official position of Soviets before Stalin took over.
>>107691643
Which is why I specified economic right, which basically boils down to less government and more business
>>107691664
Nope, idk where you got that from. If I had kids I would forbid them electronics until age 10 (with the exception of limited TV time), then after age 10 I would maybe introduce them to few non-social videogames, at age 12 I would introduce them to searching the internet without using social media like looking up stuff on Wikipedia and only at age 16 would I show them what social media is.
>>
>>107692170
Yeah, they can cull the population at any point they want, the problem is that they would just be shooting themselves into the foot. Elites still need us to work for them and they can’t do some obvious genocide shit like releasing effective bioweapon that kills double digit percentages. This is why current day AI automation potential is so dangerous and why all the depopulation conspiracy theories have been stupid over the years. Elites want bigger population until they no longer need the masses, because in the current system the more people there are the more workers and consumers they have and the more cream they can cut from the top for themselves.
>>
>>107686219
Megalomania and ego, they want to feel like "elites" when in reality they are just useful idiots of the regime.
