I have recently started to learn to program, I have learnt a bit in the past mostly C++, Python and Java but that was a long time ago in my late teens and early 20s so anyway I decided to learn Rust and have been doing so on and off for a month or two and then I come back to this board after some time and you guys are all saying Rust is terrible and for tranny's etc. why? In terms a beginner would understand.

I'm not a developer but I need a git platform to host and share some code I made. What are some good Github alternatives (not to be self-hosted)? I don't want to use a Microsoft product.

My PSU died recently after ~11 years, I thought it was a bit strange given that a Gold Seasonic PSU shouldn't crap out right after the warranty is up and the other older components are still fine, but since 11 years is a long time I let it go

Then recently another PC in my building had a Gold Corsair PSU die after just 2 years, way before the warranty was up, I thought that was really strange, could it be that the fact my building started getting lots of power outages recently be wearing out these PSUs much faster than they'd usually last? Is a UPS the only way to get around it?

So I just need to do basic tasks like listen to music, stream video, and browse basic websites. Is installing windows 2000 a bad idea? How fucked will I be for drivers?

The reason I want to do this for one, it's botnet free, and two it was the most streamlined of classic operating systems. I really have a boner for Windows 2000 and I just want to know if it's even moderately viable to use in this day and age.

with the archinstall script, it's just as easy if not more easy to install than many distros. gone are the days where it's "challenging" to set up. if you want it even installs a DE that works immediately.
the appeal of arch to me is that i don't want a bunch of stuff installed, a lot of which i don't even know what it does. i want to install something when i need it. i want control over my computer and i don't want hidden stuff or restricted customization.

Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

Ah thats what you meant. Usually speedtest. I did upgrade my main PC to be on ethernet instead of wifi with this LAN restructure, but they have the same speeds as far as rated mbps goes (1Gbps)

I did more testing after both your replies and it seems that my default server selection is driving the change currently, but doesn't explain how I've never seen that kind of speed before when running tests.

Server A thats about right in my city runs 470~, whether my PCs ethernet is directly plugged to my DMZ router or my Router2.
Server B thats about 2 hours away, runs 900+ in this case behind Router2 on ethernet.

I reran the tests on wifi, behind my Router2. Achieved 400~ to server A, and 630~ to server B. Never gotten that high on wifi before, its never peaked above 450 to any server on wifi.

At this point I have no fucking clue and I cant be fucked to keep testing since my brain is hurting
>>
>>107715459
>ethernet instead of wifi
Ah that explains it. Wifi is shit. Even in the best of real world conditions you'll rarely see anywhere near the full speed actually coming through even if the spec is theoretically capable of multigigabit.
>>
>>107715475
Thats what I would have figured, but considering my wifi is now better than before I swapped, im still unsure.

Either way that begs the question, does my ISP actually care that I'm getting double what I'm paying for now on ethernet? I sure as fuck wont say anything to them
>>
>>107714927
even then you just copy the torrent files, config files, and data to the new setup.
>>
>>107706943
I know this is a noob question but I've actually never done it before I built this server. Going to upgrade my server with some NVMe drives. Can I just toss them in the mobo, restart, and have access to them? They're going to be in a new ZFS pool.

Not really sure what your use case is, but having all the project related info in the project management system is fine. If the only thing you take notes on is projects why not keep it there?
You can have TWO systems, one for your notes and one for project related items.
Obsidian is very Cope tier for: To-do, project management, notes with drawings.
Its good at notes, and if you wanted to make your notes a searchable database for SQL enjoyers who cannot get enough of it at work.
>>
use emacs/org-mode i used obsidian for years with a bunch of custom plugins, it was a waste of time to set anything. org-mode does everything and more

this one has whiteboard, think they're still migrating to new database thing
>>
>>107715932
>this one has whiteboard,
It didn't, last I tried it. But I just checked the site and it apparently was just added.

The thing with Logseq is: Why use it when you can just use Obsidian? The only claim it has is that it's open-source and not proprietary (IIRC) but it's so much slower in getting features and competing with Obsidian that you're better off just using Obsidian unless you're a Stallman-type.
>>
>>107715959
Obsidian having files be the basic unit sucks, I would much rather have paragraphs be the basic unit which I think both logseq and notion do

I hate the fact that tiling window managers are nowadays used mostly because of the looks rather than the functionality. Sure, people did have their anime themed i3-gaps build back then, but the entire point of a tiling wm was the tiling itself, not to mention the minimalism behind the setup. You used a twm because you wanted to make the most of your screen, and to avoid the bloat of a full blown desktop environment. Fast forward to 2016+9 and everyone uses the exact same ugly setup because it looks "kewl" online. Rounded corners everywhere, excessive amounts of padding and blur, exaggerated animations, stupid gimmicks, and also the entirety of packages from a desktop environment (with propietary software included obviously, because you NEED your Electron-based "apps"). Reddit was a mistake.

If anyone is interested in GBA/Pokémon there's a good deal on these flashcarts ATM I've never seen them this cheap decided to buy after months of debating them and say they're half price
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvlmTyk you can flash them with a Pokémon ROM and have working rtc full palpark support etc and yes I know about the ezflash omega de I have one but ha e to switch between the a/b mode is annoying and I wanted some dedicated carts. Also I'm a bit confused the app says that the deal isn't in effect for 22 hours but let me buy them at the deal price does it just means they don't ship for 22 hours? Sorry for formatting I'm in bed so phone posting kek
