I do find Miku very interesting. Maybe not as a well written complex character kind of interesting but her situation is very unique.
She is a virtual idol. There is no single writer, actor or company behind her existence, but instead she manifest herself through works of independent musicians, artists and animators who got inspired to spontaneously work under same banner. She is fictional but she does real concerts. She doesn't comes from any story and instead her existence is interwoven with real world. She does live at the boundary of reality.
With so many works existing one really only interacts with a slice of it all. Due to your own personal biases it often aligns with your preferences, giving you quite personalized experience. It really does sound like a realization of Rei Toei, in many ways.
Also her being such a persistent and community driven character also has its perks. As many other waifuists eventually have to accept their waifu becoming obscure and having less fanarts and recognition, Miku really never dies. As long as there will be some people inspired by her, she will keep existing through the works they make. And it doesn't seem it will change any time soon.
Her being a singer is also interesting. Although an anime or manga series would provide more concrete base for a character, these worlds are also fully isolated. You only really experience it from behind a screen from start to end and maybe rewatch it. Music is not bound like that, you can enjoy listening to same songs over and over. It kind of can be quite intimate experience too. Combine that with themes and lyrics that often resonate with otaku, it can be a catalyst for an unique bond.
Of course none of these are main reasons why I love Miku, but it should suffice to not write her off ad uninteresting.

I did some rearranging for the first time in years.

My computer collection has grown somewhat out of hand. I bought all these Lenovo laptops for $40 each thinking I'd be dropping them off places, but things haven't worked out.

I'm considering getting rid of the Lenovo pre built with the 1660ti. It's being used as my main server, hosting several sites - some of which you might've visited. The ethernet port is blown out and the USB adapter is a serious constraint (as is the neutered lg1151 proprietary motherboard).

Then there're the dedicated boxes for security cameras; pozzed wireguard clients; gitea, photos, music, and movies (fuck immich, fuck jellyfin, fuck navidrome, fuck nextcloud. I prefer to roll my own lite web servers without mandatory thumbnails, transcoding, album directories, and php decaybloat).

I need about 20 more years of this until I'm bored of tinkering with this stuff, and even then.

Thank you for viewing my serverpost.

oh no

maybe they should've just used some of that "donation" money to hire artists to make new game assets? also porting existing game assets into UE5 is literally like 5 minutes of work, here's EverQuest in UE5
>>
>>106527620
I bet that original WoW client runs inside UE5 container and they just render external assets via UE5. Exactly like Bethesda's Oblivion Demaster did.
This is why they can shit out these remasters relatively painlessly.
>>
>>106529329
I heard whoever owns EQ now is also suing some successful private server for basically being more successful than the actual game kek. If these people are going to go through the effort of building a new client they really should just AI generate replacement assets and be a legally distinct "spiritual successor" that they can properly monetize.

I don't use AI because it's bad for the environment. Even if there were a service that provably uses 100% clean energy (there isn't), the water usage by the cooling systems is unacceptable.

In the near future, solar and wind will be a dependable and reliable energy source to a large degree, on a massive scale.
In combination with batteries and other energy storage and capacity storage it becomes reliable and dependable as the prices lower and the adoption in society as a whole increases.
It's getting cheaper and cheaper and new systems are paying themselves off faster than the previous generations.

The key is getting to around 5 days of direct electric storage for each site, and pushing any surplus of that to where it's needed, and any surplus to that into 'power to x', like clean fuels and such, for long term storage.
Solar panels aren't improving much at the moment in terms of energy output per square meter as far as I'm aware, but they are steadily getting cheaper.
However, battery storage which is the key factor of getting this approach to work is getting very cheap very fast at the moment.
Last year we saw a 50% drop in battery prices, and we are seeing this trend continue and speeding up.
Tony Seba predicted these things many years ago.
He's looking at the cost curves of technology and their adoption in society.
We will naturally go towards mainly solar when the battery prices drop, it's just simply cheaper and pays itself back faster than anything else.
It will be the money that talks.
At some point, electricity will become so cheap that we will have an overabundance of it.
This is what Tony Seba's cost curves analysis predict.

It's as if the design guys saw those Juicero idiots and thought... "This is it... These are the fabled suits of legend! The prophecy has come true! They know not of engineering. They care not of expense. They say yes to all, sign all checks, and don't ask further."
That design company had to wash so many pairs of underwear, and buy so many new pants... custom pants. The kind of pants that fit around an erection that would give viagra an erection. The kind of erections that make you wonder if you should call a doctor.

Just when those happy engineers and designers grew flaccid they would get an email...
"Well... if you think we need custom machined aluminum parts.... sure.
Also, those one piece molds are approved and in production."
BOING!
Never has a company gone through so much tissue and laundry detergent. The Twinkies factory has never reached such levels of cream dispensed daily in a business.
Those men had wet dreams about things like custom precision machined guide pins, double injected plastic and silicone parts with custom molds... oh yeah... expedited parts acquisition...
They woke up at night in cold horny sweats... wives asking "Omg. Honey are you okay? You were moaning about silicone in your sleep..."
They just looked over in a panic and shouted "BOOBIES! Big sexy... uh.. boobies.. fake sexy boobies.. uhm.. sorry. Go back to sleep."
"Uh.. honey.. then why were you moaning about beautiful shafts last night? Long hard shafts that fit just right? Do we need to have a talk...?
"Uh.. I'll get back to you on that...."

Real problem is how even in dockerland everything still expects a dynamically linked libc. I'm surprised there hasn't been a bigger push for entirely statically linked C executables yet.
>>
>>106522381
If your applications are network / IO bound then there is basically no reason to use a C program over Go since it'll behave much better for much less effort.

Anyone know a good case with the magsafe feature and magsafe battery bank that would fit a Flip 5? Finding myself in situations where im not that close to an outlet during work and need something a tad more portable without the hassle of wires. I'm still taking a spare USB-C cable with me with my charging block when it the chance to use them does appear though.

I like my Pitaka case with my S25 Ultra, it has magnets but I've never used them. Stupidly got rid of my 25W 2M magsafe puck and magsafe wallet when I got rid of my iPhone. I hear it fucks with the S-pen though, but only when something is attached but that hasn't come up for me and shouldn't be a concern on the Flip 5. Also looking on their site it doesn't look like the two cases they currently offer for your phone have magnets.

I usually just use my power bank and cord anyway, with a folding wall adapter also in my bag for when I'm near an outlet.
