>>106526369>>case affirmed the principle of "shareholder primacy" in corporate AmericaTry the entire western world buddy. Capitalism or the capitalism you know: neoliberal capitalism is sold on the idea that the invisible hand or the market is a force of good. It will act in self interest. We don't need to regulate it, it'll all be fine, they're working for profit and we should keep taxes low so everything thrives.Yeah, it's been running unchecked for at least the last 17 years and it had a damn good run before that running unchecked too, about 45-50 years depending on the nation.God bless that ruling because it made state intervention necessary to counteract the negative effects of an unchecked market. Then that idea was sold to avoid intervention in the markets even when they crashed and burned. The markets will do good buddy, just have to trust a little bit harder. Is it any surprise the tech world is the way it is when you consider the size of the organisations that control it?
Are there other programming languages as performant yet expressive as Rust?

>>106525784>What software?Vivado (FPGA software). Unless something has changed within the past year, it only supports X11 on Linux. Now you're going to tell me "I don't need that", but that's ok, this isn't my first time interacting with freetards though.Again I'll ask the question, what am I gaining by switching to desktop hobby OS?
>>106526593>ancient broken softwareThere's the linux cult in action.
>>106526647>>106526670I'll admit that "ancient broken" is a bit overdramatic, but high DPI displays have been widespread for many years now. If a recent release of a given piece of software doesn't support DPI scaling, that's a serious deficiency. If it supports it on Windows but not on Linux, then it's not crazy to suggest that its claimed support for Linux is lacking at best and broken at worst. Some X11 programs do actually have good support for DPI scaling and those have worked fine under KDE Wayland sessions since 2022: https://pointieststick.com/2022/06/17/this-week-in-kde-non-blurry-xwayland-apps/I don't know whether Vivado is like that.>what am I gaining by switchingHonestly I don't care if you switch or not, I'm not trying to evangelise it. If you need software that doesn't run well on Linux then that's a compelling reason to not use Linux.I've personally found that KDE has improved enough in the past few years that any remaining reasons to use Windows have pretty much disappeared. My current setup involves switching between a Fedora 42 KDE work machine and a Windows personal machine with a KVM. I find Fedora nicer to use and less troublesome than Windows so I'll probably switch over the personal machine soon.
>>106523547Simple.Are you planning on building a server?>LinuxAre you planning on using your computer for work and any video game (all of them)>Windows
>>106523547I recently got Kubuntu (2 days ago) because Windows started acting up after I tried renaming my main user acc, and desu it really depends on what you're going to do with it. My activities consist of gaming, programming, web browsing and arting, which are all the same apps as on Windows, so my experience basically is exactly the same. If you're going to be doing more Office-y stuff it might change more but generally speaking performance and experience is the same, other than a few small shortcut changes.

I purchased this recently for $2000. Was it a good decision? It was on sale, the best specs I could find for the price and form factor. It has a fit and finish approaching a modern MacBook (although a slightly thicker design, but not much) and it can run all muh games at ultra settings at 120 fps or above. More importantly, I think it'll be good for tinkering with LLMs and for productivity. I may dual boot Linux on it.Battery life is okay at around 6 real world hours on battery with minimal tweaking (using the integrated graphics only), and in performance mode it really does run quite well.I have a week to return it, though. Thoughts? Can I do better for the same price or less without sacrificing anything big? My other laptops include an old MBP and a ThinkPad x220.specs:3k 120hz OLED display with G-Sync (looks great in static images, does not particularly impress me in motion)AMD 9 HX 3705070 Ti (laptop), I think it's slightly underpowered to fit in such a small chassis, but I don't really know any better and it's still the most powerful GPU I've ever used, I think.good speakers, decent keyboard, overall just a nice build.

>>106523068>but I tried typing on one of these at microcenter and the keyboard was horribleIt's hard for me to rate. I don't love it. Marginally more than sufficient, and it looks nice. 5.5/10 keyboard. It reminds me of the newer ThinkPad chiclet keyboards.
