What was PC building like in 2009?
>>107129042I just reread this post and I disown it, idk why I repeated myself so much
>>107128926>I dont think zoomers will ever truly realise just how poorly optimised Crysis was at the time of it's release.Absolutely correct. I made this realization in 2016 when my PC could run Far Cry 2 maxed out but Crysis maxed out would shit the bed on the same machine even though both games have the same level of visual detail overall. Made me realize that Dunia was a correctly built game engine and that CryTek was unoptomized trash.Crysis 2 and three did run much better though.
>>107128409>ram speed doesn't matter Retarded as ever eh
>>107127716In 2009 I picked a prebuilt with a dual core and 512MB vram. 4GB ddr2, one of the sticks died soon and I was down to 2GB single channel.
>>107128793>because there was limited help??? Everything was pretty much plug and play, and if it wasn't you got a disc. tf are you talking about? The only thing you had to watch out for was the large tower coolers which didn't fit in most cases.>>107128588>>107128690>>107128926>>107129042Barely anyone actually played Crysis, it's a tech demo with a game attached to it. It's extremely fucking boring and FEAR mogs it as a tactical shooter. It's popularity was astroturfed so hard that PC Gamer gave it 2007 GOTY over Bioshock.

Post /g/ related books. I know there's not much use for tech books nowadays, but I just find it easier to learn from a book, and they are fun to read, especially older ones.
I miss when O'Reilly had SOUL. The ones they release today are just ok, a lot of it is print-on-demand slop.

>>107113872If you can add custom redirects to the dns you can do basically anything. what I do with airvpn is make *.lan redirect to 192.168.0.20 (my server) and on the server I have npm reverse proxying to my services, so like jellyfin.lan is proxied to 192.168.0.20:33013. You can also skip npm and do it directly in the dns if it supports entering domains and ports (if needed). Only caveat is you obviously need to be using that specific dns for this to work.
>>107129131>when the loli post nut clarity hits at 3 am
>>107124733Yeah those would be fine. The higher end CPUs above those cost disproportionately more than any performance gains they may have, so it's not worthwhile unless you actually think you'll be using that power.>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_VideoCheck the intel QSV page on wiki. Kaby, Coffee and Comet lake (7, 8, 9, and 10 thousand series processors) support decoding h265 and encoding h264. If you can find a reasonably priced system with an 11, 12, or 13 thousand series processor (Rocket, Alder, and Raptor Lake respectively), maybe consider that because it supports h265 encoding as well as av1 decoding, but last I looked those were prohibitively expensive compared to the Kaby/Coffee lake parts (7, 8 and 9 since coffee had a refresh in the 9k series). And the latest stuff that supports AV1 encoding is still brand new, so not cheap, and not worthwhile unless you actually have a need for it.Performance gains on post 10k+ chips aren't nonexistent, but they're marginal unless you get a lot more cores/higher clocks. Intel stalled hard on the IPC improvements which is a big part of why AyyMD bent them over and fucked them with both barrels with zen. It's really about the QSV capabilities. If you don't need the fancier stuff, fuck it, save the money and don't bother. For the price of these shitboxes you can always buy a new one in 3 years once the newer stuff has dropped in price.

>>107117843I just use AI to improve my codebase structure and seek and destroy bugs, clean up functions, flatten nested structures, etc.Never tell it flatten, otherwise it will FORCE a hallucinated flatten even if it's as flat as possible. You have to ask it if it's possible and give it extra assurance that it SHOULD tell you it's not possible and may well not be.
Super new to vibecoding, but interested. If I want to try making a small test game with one of the sites, which one should I go with? I'm either going with Solarus (and thus Lua) or Godot, if that helps.

The CFO of OpenAI says people aren't exuberant enough about AI .Please, help Sam Altman, buy a ChatGPT subscription.
>>107124721We will truly never know whether or not AI can successfully replace most of the workforce. Because, in order to do that, you have to have buy-in from *most of the workforce*, in terms of implementing it, reporting issues, correcting things, etc, and NOBODY is going to consent to contributing to their own destitution. It may work, or it may be overhyped slop - we have no way of actually knowing.
