>>107125222Only reason is time. If it's a small file that takes <10 seconds to compress either way then knock yourself out. But if it's something big then it may not be worth it. There are strong diminishing returns at the highest compression levels, you might end up waiting like 10x longer for a 3% smaller file or some shit like that. And that's if your content is well-compressible in the first place, obviously I assume you're not trying to compress images or movies and shit (which are inherently compressed formats and can't really recompress more), just want to mention for completeness. If you're e.g. zipping a folder of images just to have it as one file that's easier to send, then higher compression levels would be just wasted time for zero benefit. There may also be a small time penalty for decompressing but it's rarely very significant.
>>107103221>>107125132hey thanks for the responses, but i ended up just forking the repo and pushing it to my fork to then make the pull request that way. tried what you both offered but it still was being a bitch so i took the long way around.and yeah it's a public repo so i'm still not sure why it didn't want to work but i guess this is a good enough work around until i can try seeing what the deal is.
>>107108514>VPNIf it's for geoblocking, I think proton is not the most cost-effective, you should get some youtube-shilled vpn with a 90% discount from a sponsor deal, they're cheap as dirt.If you want some semblance of privacy then never buy a VPN with traceable payment information, it makes zero sense to trade your ISP that has your contact details to a VPN that has your contact details. Only buy ones with crypto that you've anonymised (e.g. monero, or well washed bitcoin).>DriveNo idea honestly, it's just a drive, compare the price and storage - what else can there be to talk about>Mail bridgeComplete meme, if you want encrypted mail in thunderbird then just use PGP like a normal person. Proton's shady racket of using a custom protocol then claiming you can't integrate it for """security""" then publishing an integration but paywalling it is just performative theatre.
>>107108913AI psychosis is a real thing, many people just never learned to not trust things and AI can be very convincing. Many boomers are particularly vulnerable because they didn't grow up in a low-trust internet, it's the same reason exploitative advertising works for example. If someone is truly convinced of this there's generally no good way to deal with it other than just outright sidelining them from decision making. You can't reason with them. You can maybe attempt some strategies designed to stall her so she wastes her own time more than yours, like demand that she provides legal citations for every "concern" (and shut her down immediately whenever she brings up a hallucinated nonexistent one from chatgpt), maybe this could work but you'd probably also need buy-in from all the other partners to enforce it and actually make sure she's forced to follow the rule and put in the effort.
>>107125222Decompression memory requirements can be excessive for phones or VPS, and the odds of the output file actually being smaller are slim in most cases. I have a little script for brute forcing 7z, and 9 is never smaller for output <1GB. The default 7 setting is actually very good.

>>107123731>I think they call it MOC, right? What? That's not what a moc is. MOCs are fan made creations, whereas a knockoff is when someone copies an official Lego set to sell it for cheaper.
>>107125180This is helpful. Thank you. It is a bit more complicated than I thought, and I didn't realise there was so much copying of official LEGO sets. I naively thought these sets on Ali were designed by the companies, and just copied the general bricks concepts.>>107125241You're right, of course. I figured that out between when I posted that and now. Ali sellers use the term "MOC" at the beginning of a lot of fake LEGO listings. That's why I made that mistake.
>>107125264There's a mix of knockoffs of official lego sets and original stuff on ali. There's also sets that are MOCs that people made and chang stole the instructions for them and sells all the blocks you need to make them. I guess it's kinda confusing if you don't really know much about Lego.
I think i'm nearly over it with the game grinding. I can't take it anymore.

>>107124329
>>107121834No? The more people get into it the more expensive it is
>>107121834No it isn't. It's because of them that prices have gone through the roof on all retro tech. You can't even buy a fucking Commodore 64 for less than $500 anymore. And not to mention CRT monitors, which were already a scarce commodity because they haven't been manufactured in over 20 years, are basically unobtainable now. Fuck zoomers, they should stick to their own shitty culture and stop trying to fuck up ours.
>>107125375This isn't a problem if you're an actual enthusiast because you have all these things you got for pennies before it became a thing trend chasers (like yourself) pretend to be into.
>>107125381I didn't start collecting retro tech until a couple years ago when the prices had already become inflated. I have a right to my own culture regardless of when I started actually caring about it because I was actually born in the 80s. Stick to your own decade, faggots.
Why is most commercial music still mastered so loud even though the loudness war is effectively over?
>>107124769WHAT?!?
Most music still relies on the bad sound quality of most speakers and headphones. That "industry" works like that, it's their culture and they'll not change.Electro tends to be better (even if the music they make is slop) because they don't need to hide bad instruments, fix the drunktard bass guitarist and there's no ego conflicts during mastering

>>107125385My view is that is hasn't failed, it's just entered diminishing returns. Altman is selling the lie that if you just push a bit more you'll enter exponential growth, but the reality is that if you push a lot more it'll just be a little better.

Challenged ChatGPT with producing a Jucika comic. The first comic it made was literally just 4 panels of her eating popcorn. I noted that it looked good but lacked the risqué humor usually found in the comics. It then produced this.

My VR broke in 2023 or 2024; I don't quite remember. I haven't been very active in the VR community since then, but it seems like VR is dying. I wouldn't say it's fully dead but it's not how it used to be.At first it was all cool and amazing, but now it's kind of boring and stale. Even before my VR broke, I could feel it nearing that point of “Wow, this is pretty ass.” Maybe it's the games? Perhaps it's the VR headset itself? I'm not sure. Does anybody know what caused some decline in the VR space?
>>107122034>what caused some decline in the VR space?literally no company can afford to lose money in this economy on VR experiments, we only have flat to VR mods to play
>>107122034Zuck bet the farm on Horizon being the next Facebook, killing Oculus in the process. The hardware is great, passthrough was good enough to make a laughing stock out of the AVP and stuff like hand tracking and IOBT is excellent. But it's all stuck behind garbage software that doesn't want you to leave the Horizon ecosystem.HTC lost their partnership with Valve, and now HTC make wholly mediocre headsets while Valve are dragging their heels releasing a follow up to the excellent but dated Index.Games were ticking along fine at one point, but again Zuck fucked it all up. He bought every VR dev, told them to cancel their projects, and proceeded to fuck all with them.
