I'm not super knowledgeable about cars but I feel like heat and soot/grunge might be factors. A fake plastic exhaust can be integrated into the surrounding bodywork without temperature considerations (the black stuff looks like plastic, there's a proximity sensor within a couple of inches of the fake pipes there), and it will always look shiny. Meanwhile look at the real pipes there, they're all grungy and dull, and I'm pretty sure exhaust is hot so you wouldn't be able to just set them directly into the plastic bodywork like that.
