Why are these things still made and used? Most phones don't include a slot for them, and they're the only device small (if modern phones can even be called that) enough to justify using them over a full size card. I know the Switch and Steam Deck use them, but those are also big enough that they surely could've made them with full-size cards in mind

pretty much every portable device on the planet has microsd slots except for >high end smartphones, one thing that could really use them it's retarded
>>
>>107710435
It's by design. The high end models now have enough storage to not need them. I think my s23 Ultra has 512gb of storage and I've been using it for years taking videos, pictures, downloading shit, installing things like godot and my repo etc. and I still think I've only used like half the storage or some shit.
>>
>>107710435
buyers of "high end" smartphones are easier to be milked for upselling, like bluetooth earphones and cloud storage

The steam frame is gonna cost like 700 dollars maybe more with the RAM issues going isn't it?
The Quest 3 was being sold for 407+100 dollar in Amazon credit a week ago.

The index had lots of custom hardware like the base stations and had good build quality
The Frame is much more cost optimized, the displays and lenses cost less to make then back then, the controllers are simpler. The additional cost comes from the CPU, RAM and UFS chip which wouldn't cost a lot if there was no bullshit market manipulation by openai
>>
>>107707669
you would be right, if there was a competitor example that costs $700-800 (other than the quest pro for $1000).
But ignoring the quest, the pimax crystal light is wired, has no battery, no OS, no passthrough, or eye tracking, similar resolution and display (but with aspheric lenses, no pancake), and it costs $860 with controllers (but the controllers are known to be worse than steam VR's tracking, and you could buy just the headset for $600 and spend a fortune on a SteamVR adapter + controllers + base stations).
I think you are underestimating how much money meta makes from kids who trick their parents to buy a $300 VR headset, for the headset to have a $10 monthly subscription so after 1 year it becomes a $440 headset.
>>
>>107705073

>>
>>107708074

The pimax has more expensive displays and is >pimax
>>
>>107704522
Meta is a retarded company, the steam frame can easily be $700 if it has been designed by competent people.

That's actually the converter applying device-dependent format conversion to try and clean shit up to a lowest common denominator that is known to work for the particular family of e-readers supported by the device plugins you have selected.
You can turn it off. It's hidden deep in the bowels of the, admittedly awful, preferences/options UI.

i mean. its better than all the other noteapps + its markdown. i always used it when studying because it lets me create convenient indexes for everything and i can chain them together so i never have to *look* for notes. the application itself though is bloated electron garbage, which is why i dont really use it in my free time. still vastly superior to the alternatives
>>

1.5 was a leak, AFAIK. And it was 100% trained on a lot of stolen art, which is why it can create cool stuff newer models are incapable of. But from a technical standpoint, it's pure dogshit.

Do copyright laws need to adapt to digital media?

The ideal use of copyright is so someone who publishes something can profit from it as long as they hold the copyright and once they're no longer around or surrender their authority over it then anyone can use it without seeking permission or license.

But when it comes to software there is real value in being able to maintain software for use later with the evolution of technology, so someone or a company holding copyright over data can actually bring value long after the original publication since their ability to maintain it may rely on their ability to own it and profit from it.

Obviously this applies more than anything to video games since the code that the game runs on and the assets it rely on can be separated (people can reverse engineer the code and create a clean-room replication that behaves the same as the original game but that will never entitle them to also distribute their reengineered code with the necessary assets needed to recreate the entire game) but it can be applied across the entire spectrum of software in some fashion, due to things like being able to port stuff to different or newer platforms.

>>

No.

If anything that's why it kind of sucks. People create shit like this to "stick it" to Disney when if Disney were less aggressive people probably wouldn't want to go weapons-free on bullshit adaptations.
