>you use Lua in a C++ project, but forget to add extern "C" declarations
>this will cause the project to spit out a ton of linker errors to you
>but of course, the compiler won't just tell you that -llua is incompatible, it will instead just vomit linker errors and it is up to you to figure out why that is
>the linker/compiler will SILENTLY IGNORE the incompatibility of liblua and instead just vomit some garbage that doesn't help in any way.
Why do C compilers suck so much? Or does Lua suck so much? It is hard to tell ...

C users didnt ask
the compiler people pretend they didnt think about it
and everyone copes that its better this way because theres less code surface to keep clean

cryptic compiler errors are one of the """"joys"""" of working with C
its this or its rust with its fucktarded syntactical strutures
personally id rather deal with lazy design only in select cases than deal with lazy design throughout every aspect of my code

just write native C++ or your own scripting engine pussy

(not op)
its actually not hard at all
surprizingly simple, even
and its a fun thing to do the design choices about that, especially when written in C
unironically.
how do you deal with the thing? do you transpile it into c and then link your scripts as a library?
do you decide on an interpreted language?
or maybe something inbetween?
fascinating stuff to be quite desu with you

Yesterday I saw a video about the CIA sabotaging and running into the ground one of France's biggest company to steal some piece of tech. I didn't realize the US was this treacherous. I could conceive some of the evil shit done against enemy countries but against allies? Really fuck them.
I'm even more pissed against my country for letting this happen.

A good companion addon that UBO doesn't replace is CanvasBlocker.
>>
>>107675138
CanvasBlocker is perhaps the most placebo of all placebos.
>>
>>107675164
Not even close. It lets me evade rangebans from this shitty website and it stops youtube from throttling me for using UBO.
>>
>>107675175
It doesn't do either of those things schizo it randomizes a hash that's randomized every time your computer restarts anyway. And when the site notices you have different canvas hashes with the same session cookie, well, now yuo're fingerprinted.
>>
>>107675198
Weird then how testing the same websites with the same browsers I got a completely different experience just from enabling that addon.

Because the splash page is made up of multiple teams somewhat competing products, with no holistic owner who is in the position to be able to hold the teams accountable with an SLA for sub-second loading times per feature.

Long long ago, I worked at one of the top 10 highest traffic sites. Our site performance had a history of being middling to slow, with 8-12 second page loads being the norm. A tech savvy C-level (who understood the "attention economy" decades before anyone actually used that phrase) joined and made a big deal about getting sub-6 second performance for a full load of the splash page. The product owners for each of the major components pretended to play along, but balked behind the scenes, and it never happened. What did happen was the C-level eventually left for greener pastures, the product owners instead continued to work against each other in delivering dogshit features no one wanted, the sites performance continued to deteriorate, and we eventually went under with other more performant sites in a similar market segment winning out.

Why did valve based SteamOS off of arch instead of something like debian or fedora?

>>107671951
Okay, normal mainstream distros:
Arch, Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE.
Yes, there are more, but those + derivatives are the default. Only Arch and Debian are completely community managed. Sure the other distros are great, but they COULD be influenced by SUSE/Red Hat IBM/Canonical.
>But now that I'm thinking about it, Gentoo or Nix would be an option as well. SteamOS defaults to Flatpaks on the desktop anyways, they even package distrobox+podman now, so the distro really doesn't matter.
>>
Debian is the only distro needed

If they start using a bootc base then you could probably just rebase from SteamOS to Bazzite/Fedora in a matter of moments. Sounds like they're trying to go the distroless route.

>>107674963
ChromeOS does use Gentoo as a base for example.

Switching to Linux for gaming seems to be the popular thing these days and Steam is the choice for it. Whereas on Windows using GOG I can actually own my game and keep a copy of it, I'm not leasing it if the platform decides to just take shit back. Windows has better software support and freedom.

yea idk how you'd sell a second hand gog game. since traditionally you'd do so by selling the original disc, which was itself the 'key' used to verify if it's an original copy
that's what you're selling/buying when you pick up a second hand game, not the software itself, but the physical media which proves in some way that you own something that was produced/sold by the developers.
nobody would but a cd-r with a gog game on it even if the seller promised to not keep a copy, because such a disc has no externally recognised value. it's a complicated issue.

for drm-free stuff which is distributed as files downloadd over the internet, there's no such "unique token" you can physically give to someone to transfer ownership. like if i sold my original cd of "tempest 2000", what's really being transferred is the physical disc itself, something which is relatively rare and difficult to precisely replicate, while the software therein isn't difficult to find freely. it's rarely said because it's implied, but when you buy old media what you want is /the original media/, not just a license to use the data contained on said media.
idk how you could sell a gog game second hand, since there's no physical object you have to relinquish that proves you're the owner of the game
