I do think gnome's workflow is amazing and unmatched in the PC space for my personal work, but Linux is barely ready for desktop. I'd say it's best function currently is what it already is for most that aren't using it as a server- a steam deck type thing or a hobby. I mainly use Linux but that's a preference of enjoying tinkering and hating Microsoft.

For games that use local saves you should back them up on a thumb drive. Once you install you'll not need to do much at all to start gaming again.
