So I just need to do basic tasks like listen to music, stream video, and browse basic websites. Is installing windows 2000 a bad idea? The steam frame is gonna cost like 700 dollars maybe more with the RAM issues going isn't it? The Quest 3 was being sold for 407+100 dollar in Amazon credit a week ago.
>>107693887Sounds like an excellent price, here’s hoping.
>>107693887>$700>steam index was $999um yeah I think its safe to assume the more advanced VR headset that runs your games locally is gonna cost atleast AS MUCH as version 1
>>107707411The index had lots of custom hardware like the base stations and had good build qualityThe Frame is much more cost optimized, the displays and lenses cost less to make then back then, the controllers are simpler. The additional cost comes from the CPU, RAM and UFS chip which wouldn't cost a lot if there was no bullshit market manipulation by openai
>>107707669you would be right, if there was a competitor example that costs $700-800 (other than the quest pro for $1000).But ignoring the quest, the pimax crystal light is wired, has no battery, no OS, no passthrough, or eye tracking, similar resolution and display (but with aspheric lenses, no pancake), and it costs $860 with controllers (but the controllers are known to be worse than steam VR's tracking, and you could buy just the headset for $600 and spend a fortune on a SteamVR adapter + controllers + base stations).I think you are underestimating how much money meta makes from kids who trick their parents to buy a $300 VR headset, for the headset to have a $10 monthly subscription so after 1 year it becomes a $440 headset.

Is C still wortlh learning nowadays?I'm studying CS but my uni's program only teaches you Python, Java and C++ so i figured I'd try to start learning C on my own over the winter break.I already have a decent grasp on Python and Java and have always heard all the real enlightened big brain neProidians learn C to understand how a computer works beter since it's "close to the metal" unlike Python and Java but even starting out with Learn C the Hard Way, Zed Shaw says that C is a fundamentally flawed language and has many errors that later languages fixed into non-issues.Should I keep going
>>107707988You're wasting your time. Rustrannies believe if you write C, for any reason, you are stupid and evil.
>>107702118Yes, you should learn C, despite its flaws, because it's the lingua franca of programming.
>>107707914So, ditch all the O'Reilly books and learn the Nand2Tetris way?
>>107702118in my uni they make you study assembly and CI think studying low-level programming is the play in this day and age, you will likely be harder to replace by jeets/AI
If you don't want to write anything useful, learn and use C. If you want to make a real program that does something, learn Rust or C++ instead. Here's how learning C will go:You'll convince yourself that you're some badass programmer because you defined your own container types. You'll write useless preprocessor abuse and stupid shit like safe_free(void*) or whatever. Then eventually you'll realize you wish you had a real fucking programming language with generics, destructors, basic ergonomic data structures and a type system that doesn't completely suck and a standard library that can use real strings instead of your faggy struct pascal_string {...} that every C homo has written.

Piss easy to set up; single binary with no external service dependencies, can be deployed in a container also.
