The radical tech elites are pushing AGE CHECKS in SYSTEM D—can you believe this? They want to control YOUR COMPUTER, just like they want to control YOUR LIFE! This is a total DISASTER, folks!
Age checks are just a sneaky way to spy on you, track you, and tell you what you can and can’t do. SAD! Linux used to be about FREEDOM and INNOVATION, but now it’s just another tool for the WOKE MOB. They’re turning Linux into a NANNY STATE—pathetic!
We need to STOP this madness! No more age checks, no more backdoors, no more Big Tech overreach. The silent majority of DEVELOPERS and USERS must FIGHT BACK! Thank you for your attention to this matter. RSM

We know. No one with any tech knowledge is suprised that "age verification" and ai are being pushed onto consumers.

What you should be concerned about, OP, is the decision of MidnightBSD to make its' OS nonfree, by banning all California users in its' modification to its' pushover license. Making these knee-jerk conspiracy theories won't solve the issue.

#define __NR_getrusage            98

https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man2/getrusage.2.html

tl;dr:
get an account of process resource usage

it's interesting that this accounts for all children and their descendants. that's a lot of bookkeeping under the hood. i might have to go look into the source for this one, because wow.
this is another syscall with _GNU_SOURCE-gated functionality
>The _GNU_SOURCE feature test macro must be defined (before including any header file) in order to obtain the definition of this constant from <sys/resource.h>.
the fact that you have to define this at all, but especially before including any header file, always annoys me lol. really not a fan

What's it called when scrolling text on a 300hz screen isn't smooth? sometimes when scrolling and paying close attention is looks like there's a horizontal line in some of the text and it appears twice very briefly.

text rolling is stutter
text scrolling is tearing
>>
>>108406691
>thanks, by your description it looked more like tearing than ghosting, however even when scrolling it looks like a horizontal section looks ever so slightly off-white compared to your usual white internet background when scrolling text. it's the kind of thing that drives you mad once you see it, but it's quite minor. i'll have to look at the monitor settings and research as i'm very unfamiliar with monitor settings.
That to me actually sounds more like either:
1. Overdrive on low refresh rate, it can leave some sort of lighter "trail" when scrolling
2. Shitty monitor overclock from factory, try a lower refresh rate if you see horizontal lines with different colors where they shouldn't be. If they disappear, you'll need to create a custom refresh rate of a little lower than 300hz. However, I don't know if this is the case, because these artifacts can be seen without motion (as in you can stop the page at a specific point and see some of these lines).
Keep in mind DSC (display stream compression) is necessary to drive those 300hz if your monitor is 1440p or higher. You disable that and you're already asking too much.
>>
>>108413100
interesting. thank you.
>DSC
it is a 1440p monitor. i'm unfamiliar with this term. for reference my previous monitor was 1080p and had no problems of this sort. why would it make these tearing lines if that's the cause?
>>
>>108414076
>it is a 1440p monitor. i'm unfamiliar with this term. for reference my previous monitor was 1080p and had no problems of this sort.
The bandwidth needed for 1440p is higher over either HDMI or displayport. Higher resolution + higher refresh rate = higher bandwidth. Currently over something like DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1b you can only drive something like 1440p at 300hz by using DSC (which should be in your monitor as a setting), otherwise you might either not be able to select that high a refresh rate, or suffer issues like colors looking distorted because it's not able to push a color output of something like 8 or 10bpc properly. If you're using HDMI 2.1, you might be able to reach 240hz without this sort of compression.
Anyways it's doubtful this is the problem, but this is something you'll have to bear in mind.

Frankly though, I think the writing is on the wall for a lot of tech we use. I am now at the point where I'm like - what's the point of using this tech, they do nothing but hinder my life and leverage assholes now?
That's probably the goal 2bh.

Ultimately you cannot protect extreme gigaretards from their own subhuman stupidity. If you give somebody 24h time though, if they're just gullible or inexperienced they can easily ask somebody else if what they're doing is alright and what all the warnings are about if it's no problem.

>Kurt Roeckx has announced that Debian has moved to the campaigning period for the 2026 Debian Project Leader (DPL) election. This year there is only one candidate, Sruthi Chandran, so Debian voters will have a choice between Chandran as DPL or "None of the above". The campaign period will run through April 3, and the voting period will run from April 4 to April 17. Chandran has not yet posted a platform for the 2026 election, but her 2024 platform is available on the Debian wiki.

The current DPL is Andreas Tille
>https://andreas-tille.eu/index_en.html

From what I read about him, he seems reliable and deserves it. Put in mind that the DPL has the authority to steer not just the political movement but also the technical movement of Debian
>https://www.debian.org/devel/leader

While our pajeeta says she's "a librarian turned Free Software enthusiast and Debian Developer from India". The only development she cites is packaging, and goes into a rant about diversity and the need to import billions of pajeetas like her into the debian and FOSS community using the donated money, and how "cis" males are le evil.

I use debian, and I think it's a decent choice for what it offers, I heard about some volunteers leaving, and the blood of the systemd wars didn't dry yet, but if this pajeeta get the leadership it will get even worse.

She's the only candidate and devs can vote "none of the above" So does this mean the debian project can be headless?

This is what you will have to do if you want to sideload on Android from now on. Why is this allowed?

Step 1: Enable Developer Mode
No more quick toggles. You’ll need to manually enable developer options first.

Step 2: Confirm you’re not being coerced
Android will explicitly ask if someone is guiding you through disabling protections on your device as a direct response to scam tactics.

Step 3: Restart your phone
This cuts off active calls, remote access, or screen-sharing sessions

Step 4: Wait 24 hours
Yes, really. There’s a mandatory one-day waiting period before you can proceed and sideload an app from an unverified developer. Google calls it a “protective waiting period.”

Step 5: Re-authenticate

Illinois HB5511 and HB5066, age verification bills, rescheduled for new hearing for March 25.

File a witness slip in opposition.
HB5511 (Requires your operating system, including Linux, to broadcast your age to all the applications on your computer)
https://ilga.gov/House/hearings/details/3062/22637/CreateWitnessSlip/?legislationId=167486&GaId=18&View=Create

HB5066 (ID uploads and face scans to use social media, including forums, IRC, 4chan, etc)
https://ilga.gov/House/hearings/details/3062/22637/CreateWitnessSlip/?legislationId=166575&GaId=18&View=Create

Instructions for filing witness written testimony if you live in Illinois
https://ilga.gov/Uploads/Testimony/House/Remote_Committee_Hearing_Process_February2025.pdf

I'm less worried about HB5066 because similar laws have been ruled unconstitutional in the courts. But HB5511 will allow groomers to run websites and deploy apps and collect information on who all the children are because their operating system will rat them out. HB5511 will also essentially ban all websites from being available in the state if the user's operating system doesn't rat out the user's age. It'll create huge liability for open source hobby projects as well!
