Star Force was better on many regards, including story and character designs, but I do prefer the old mechanics.

SF was much more teen oriented while BN was more for kids, which is a fuckin shame. SF4 could have been very good.

hey /g/, friend offered to sell me her laptop, here are the specs

i7
nvidia geforce gt 630M
8 gigs of ram 2.20 ghz
1tb
windows 8

Would be used for extremely light gaming, mostly older rpgs i just want a fast functioning laptop.

its a Dell 17R-5720. Shes offering it between 100-200, is it worth buying a used laptop if i dont necessarily care about gaming too much?

If you really need, yes. If you respond is "no", don't bought my anon. I had a model like him, was the best notebook, but today isn't. But him is good to install Linux or do a dual boot between Linux and a old Windows like 10 or 8.1 if you want customization.

100 dollars? is she crazy? But respond you ask, him is good to play old games and indie games. Please do a dual boot, Linux to indie games from steam and windows to Indie games and piracy games from a random site or emulator.

If you use the GNU Image Manipulation Program, there is something wrong with you mentally.

It is the only thing preventing me from using a Linux-based OS on a permanent basis. I need Photoshop to work and WINE is buggy as shit. The GIMP is a shit alternative.

Prove me wrong. Why would anyone deliberately use this garbage?

Not really for most computers. Apple being the one exception, where you could set up a RAM drive from your system RAM and boot from it without any third party products or software.
>>
>>107703525
MacOS has RAM disk support built in and yeah, booting from RAM was as easy as copying your System folder to the RAM disk and doing a soft restart / boot.
AmigaOS has RAM disk by default, booting from that too was as easy as just copying Workbench to it and doing a soft restart / boot.
Atari ST's TOS had default RAM disk too, don't know about booting since TOS itself was already fully in ROM.

Many 8 and 16 bit micros, like your mentioned IIgs had RAM disk software, mostly for copying files from one disk to another with just one drive.
Even original PC and clones did, mostly too for that reason. It was specially common when hard drives weren't something that came with your PC as standard.

Is C still wortlh learning nowadays?

I'm studying CS but my uni's program only teaches you Python, Java and C++ so i figured I'd try to start learning C on my own over the winter break.

I already have a decent grasp on Python and Java and have always heard all the real enlightened big brain neProidians learn C to understand how a computer works beter since it's "close to the metal" unlike Python and Java but even starting out with Learn C the Hard Way, Zed Shaw says that C is a fundamentally flawed language and has many errors that later languages fixed into non-issues.

Should I keep going

>>
>>107702118
Anyone who says otherwise is a dumbass. The world literally runs on C.
It being "worth learning" and "necessary to learn" are not the same thing.

Also, why is this even a question? They all do the same thing just in different ways. You aren't learning the language you're learning to program, the language is borderline arbitrary outside of specific use cases.

The old fan is making a slight rattling noise on startup but it goes away after 5 min. It's spinning at 3000rpm to cool down Athlon x250 which gets hot very quickly during cpu spikes (it shuts itself down at 70C). I'd like to replace it but I can't find any 70mm fans. Is there any CPU fan model (with a heatsink or not) that would fit this old motherboard (released in 2009), if yes then which size should I choose?

>>107701862
if you're dead set on keeping it, see about buying a athlon x4 640 or a phenom 965, it will help with it being slow. beware an x6 1055/1090, not all prebuilts got bios updates to support them. and no, you can swap cpus without any trouble. you can use macrium reflect free edition to clone your drive in case it fails, it probably has a tonne of hours on it too

This is very rare and occurs mostly in high frequency noise, mostly incompressible images anyway
More realistic performance is closer to this

Also, why was my previous thread deleted? This is a software-based application explicitly engineered for operation within the computational and telecommunications framework of a handheld mobile device, ok? It is therefore unambiguously situated within the broader domain of contemporary technological systems, infrastructures, and applied digital sciences, and as such relevant to /g/.

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine.

Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?

I'm using Linux mint with a USB stick. I'm using another USB stick and I'm trying to copy files to the USB. If I click on remove safely, a message pops up saying that information is being written and that I shouldn't remove the drive.

It's been 5 minutes and I've got no notification and nothing. If I try to mount it doesn't let me it doesn't detect it. If I forcedly remove the USB, the files I copied disappear.

I've done nothing else. This exact same operation took me 5 seconds in windows 10. Why the fuck is Linux failing on this simple, short task, what the fuck.
