Linux is starting to "just werk" more than windows. The OOB experience of windows is awful these days.

I've installed ubuntu on literally thousands of machines over the last 10 years. I have never once seen it crash on an install. The only time I've ever had an install fail, it was because a fucking power outage happened during the install, and the moron had his office computer plugged into the wall outlet instead of the UPS we supplied for him.

This has been true since at least Ubuntu 12.04. Windows has been slop since long before AI. The unpaid college dropouts that maintain the Linux kernel do so as a labor of love. The overpaid college graduates that make the endless spaghetti code for Microslop do so because they wanted a job and were told to "learn to code." You'll never get good quality software from people who are only there to suck the blood of some corpo like a vampire while doing their best to do as little as possible.

Hello Linux Questions folks

Chris has installed linux onto my computer and I do not like how it looks..I need it to look like my windows 7 I had before as this new setup is too confusing and unfamiliar....I liked the windows menu as I found it very convenient helpful and familiar. I miss the look the computer used to have with the bright colors and nice sounds ,as this one is too dark and depresses my mood.

I am also having troible finding my programs...I liked the programs I used and cannot figuee out how to get them back. I cannot ask Chris since he is too busy to come visit . Thank you to any kind folks who know how to help!

James.

I have also found themes i can change this to white and it is better but I still miss the colors and the look of my windows 7.Do you know how to get it back?

Hello, James.

Perhaps after taking hrt, dilating and scheduling your penis removal operation, linux will make more sense to you. We shall welcome you here on this community as a fellow linux user and I'd like to personally thank Chris for his bold move into giving you digital freedom. Looking forward to hearing more about your linux adventure, Jasmine.

My boss gave me an IBM 01EJ598 (1.92TB enterprise SAS 12Gb/s read-intensive SSD in the full Storwize V5000 hot-swap tray) for free because they were decommissioning old storage gear.
Can I get some use out of it for shit like hosting movies / seeding or it's basically a fancy paperweight?
t. only have a have a normal consumer desktop. I don't have a server, SAS controller, etc, etc... that is apparently required to run this.

How to request advice:

A lot of those respondents won't be thinking about the prior conditions or second order consequences of those age verification checks. If you asked 'do you support age verification checks for ... if that involves companies and the government collecting data on everyone who accesses that content?' then a much lower percentage would support that.

they're actually pretty good if you do "business" work, by which I mean office apps, browser, and photo editing

too bad windows is abject dogshit and linux arm support is spotty

I did a fair x86_64 vs ARM comparison benchmarking a real world activity such as compressing a 4K blu-ray movie mux with x265. The Apple M4 Pro uses about 35% less energy than the Ryzen AI MAX 390 for this task. I expected 50% less but 35% is still impressive IMHO. You would still have to burn through a battery charge cycle to compress a single 4K movie with x265 but it's still nice to see that laptops aren't limited to thin client activities anymore.

On a side note I'm not sure why people are talking about x86 so much, that obsolete slop was abandoned decades ago. We're on x86_64 now, how is this not common knowledge?

>>
>>107845811
I'm happy to see arm doing well, but why the fuck do people keep using this benchmark? there aren't a lot of people out there compressing bluray discs. do a browser benchmark. everyone uses a web browser.
>>
>>107846415
Browser benchmarks use hardware acceleration so it doesn't really measure CPU performance.
>>
>>107846490
you can disable that. i'm open to other tests, but encoding a bluray is 'real world' but not 'common task'.
