Useful archiving efforts and other projects to help out with for people new to and interested in archiving:

HIGH priority (If you don't help archive these automatically, the data will probably be lost forever):

1. http://warrior.archiveteam.org/
Help out automatically archive things being shut down right now by running ArchiveTeam Warrior program (or specific containers) in the background
Requirements: Few GB of space, some bandwidth and small amount of CPU power, more info: https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/ArchiveTeam_Warrior

If you learn that a site or any online data is in danger of shutting down, read through this page and contact ArchiveTeam on their IRC if required in order to have it archived: https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/Projects

2. Help out automatically forward URLs you browse that are not archived on https://archive.org to them for archival with a browser extension
https://github.com/internetarchive/wayback-machine-webextension
>>
MEDIUM priority (Important overall)

3. Seed torrents for as long as possible, rare data forever. Make sure to look up a guide for your router to PORT FORWARD your torrent client port, to substantially increase your upload (and your download) speed. In low population torrent swarms, if no one is port forwarded then you might not be able to connect to each other at all and exchange any data despite having it.
Requirements: As much or as little bandwitdh you want (you can set the limits if you need to)
https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent (Recommended client, especially to replace uTorrent)

4. Archive web pages you want to have a local copy of with a "Web Extension for saving a faithful copy of a complete web page in a single HTML file with a single click"
https://github.com/gildas-lormeau/SingleFile

5. Archive videos with "GUI front-end for youtube-dl, yt-dlp and other compatible video downloaders"
https://github.com/axcore/tartube

6. "Capture or record any area of your screen and share it with a single press of a key"
https://github.com/ShareX/ShareX

>>
8. Publish the data that you have archived that isn't easily or at all available online. You can easily create torrents yourself in your torrent client and then share the magnet link to it anywhere online for anyone to access and, as long as DHT (Distributed Hash Table, decentralized way to share torrents without the need for any specific tracker) is enabled in settings (on by default), your files will be searchable on DHT by DHT crawlers, local or online (for example https://btdig.com/, where you can actually also search for FILE NAMES within all DHT torrents)
(archive.org also creates torrents for all uploads automatically but their torrents shouldn't be relied on because of an error-prone implementation and since they can also break when more files are uploaded or if the item's metadata changes, which includes even getting a new comment on the item)

OTHER useful things:

- In your torrent client settings add the best trackers to be automatically added for all of your newly added torrents (helps more easily connect to peers, especially in obscure torrents)
https://github.com/ngosang/trackerslist

- Look into running a node for I2P (anonymous private network within the global internet)
Requirements: Mostly bandwidth, more info: https://geti2p.net/en/faq
https://geti2p.net/

- Look into running Tor/Hyphanet(Freenet)/IPFS/YaCy/SearXNG nodes

From personal experience, most to least favourite:

>C#
Used daily for work to build backend systems running on Azure. Easy to use, good typing system, package manager, not overly verbose. Overall a decent middle ground between low level control and high level abstraction. I'd use this for business critical systems that need to be rock solid.

>C++
Great low level control, massive performance if you know how to optimize well. Can be extremely verbose and borderline arcane. Fucking hate writing all the shitloads of boilerplate code all the time but I still love it for high performance software such as games or graphics intensive stuff.

>C
Nice and simple, good language to start learning programming but after that phase I never used it again.

>Python
Decent for one-off projects such as quick scripts or proof of concepts. Amazing high level abstraction but absolute shit low level control so not suitable for high performance stuff. Actually it's way too abstracted for me and too easy to write shitty inefficient systems since you have no clue what's really going on. Very easy to hash out some quick functionality by glueing some libs togethet. That's mostly what I see it as: a glue language. Lacks a proper type system. Duck typing is fucking retarded and is my main reason to hate Python. Unfortunately I can't escape it in the data science world.

If you're just in it for the money, chances are you'll be better off in Norway. But CPH is a really nice city (much nicer than Oslo imo), the people are friendly, coffee and bakeries are amazing, food is top notch. Then again, as a norwegian you probably enjoy the mountains a lot, and we have none of that here.
>>
>>107697973
>If you're just in it for the money, chances are you'll be better off in Norway.
It's an interesting job and a nice opportunity to work abroad (but still relatively close to home). If I just had a generic job back in Oslo, I would definitively go for it. However, my current job is something I've worked long and hard to get and I've reached the point where I have so much seniority and trust at my current company that I can pretty much decide exactly what I want to work on at any give moment.

I enjoy Copenhagen a lot every time I go there, but of course all tourists enjoy going somewhere new.

>Then again, as a norwegian you probably enjoy the mountains a lot, and we have none of that here.
Sadly, I don't enjoy the mountains as much as I used to. Used to do it a lot more when I was younger, but it's kind of a hurdle to leave town to go to them.

Monero and Bitcoin is associated with too many "extremist" that want to peacefully opt out of the United States Federal Government by not paying taxes or parcipate in any Government function. (Agorism) This directly clashes with leftist who believe in a strong welfare state. Just visit Mastodon and see everyone speak positive of the EU. Even though it is violating their digital rights they keep insisting the EU should fund FOSS devs a full time living. Its like they have cognitive disassociation towards the EU's age verification, anti free speech and digital ID policies. They want the welfare state but not the authoritarianism that comes with it.

If you support EU abolition on Mastodon that is a "fascist dog whistle"

I've played the first game way back, but I've never seen the show. The world is actually awesome and way ahead of its time. Every electronic device is connected to the internet and controlled by some AI. You explore the internet and everything connected to it with your AI "NetNavi". If something electrical is broken or malfunctioning its usually caused by virus or bad NetNavi and you can fix it with your AI. Like if you really think about it that's basically how the world is heading. Everything IS connected to the internet and controlled by AI. Like those smart fridge's that talk and order food. Chat GPT even lets users customize their AI's personality now. I do fix a lot of bugs by talking to AI. They got a lot more right than people give them credit for. .... That said, does anyone remember why Megaman was special? Lan's dad was supposed to be a genius or something... but megaman seems the same as the rest of the Navis.
>>
>>107690359
wait for it. I just learned about 3D printers, and have spent a year learning Ubuntu. I took an intro to automation course between all of my CAD and engineerign stuff for an AAS, so I should totally be able to make PETs and navis. imma use minecraft as a digital virtualization of the internet, and develop some mods whicu allow me to put an AI/LLM powered buddy into the internet and wander around, but represented in MC.

ITS COMING. GOTTA BETATEST FIRST. I HAD TO GET OVER MY DRINKIN PROBLEM, IT TOOK A FEW YEARS GUYS.

>hat said, does anyone remember why Megaman was special? Lan's dad was supposed to be a genius or something... but megaman seems the same as the rest of the Navis.
In the games its revealed that Lan's grandpa had invented Net Navis for the world. Basically it was a different timeline to the Megaman franchise where Dr.Light(the creator of Megaman from the original games) went into software(and got laid) instead of robotics. Lan's dad later takes over the company/research but lost his first son named Hub, due to a disease. Lan's dad tried to make a copy of his first son using his DNA and probably some other top secret research mixed in that I can't remember since its been awhile since I played the games.

I also can't remember if Lan and Hub were twins so some explanations might be vague. If I remember right, both Lan and Megaman didn't know until the end of the first game.

Powershell is based. Within 10 minutes of thinking "hey, I should learn to use Powershell since it's right there" I was automating file organization and cleaning up duplicate shit that has been there forever. Want to download a whole page full of videos from some obscure website? Just Ctrl+S the html and write a bunch of regex to extract all the URLs, extract the video ID, de-duplicate all the video IDs, and download them with aria2. Shit you couldn't do in CMD.exe. Shit that I never knew how to do in Bash despite having been a linux user for 3 years, because Bash documentation sucks anus and all the commands are just ancient cruft from 1969 that never got fixed despite being obviously retarded.

and this thing was developed to replace the utter useless cmd.exe
it just proves that windows is in fact the least productive, least usable operating system out of everything available
even macos has a fully functioning shell

windows is a bootloader for gaymes, nothing else

chifi is never worth it unless you can afford losing the money
theres barely any qc, and effectively zero warranty if you get a faulty unit, hence why they can undercut the market
€50 is probably the most youd want to spend before looking at second hand western brand headphones
sennheiser still sells €99 refurbed hd560s models and that should be the price/performance baseline

to your question, is it worth it?
yes, if you get lucky
only do it if you like gambling

dynamic character animations are impossible because the lighting info is stored into the model.
if you were talking about talking to IRL people, in that case the cost of turning the camera info into a streaming point cloud / splat format would be either too slow, or very low in quality.
I've seen it done in minecraft, that might be the future of VR chatrooms if we could download 1tb in an minute casually.

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine.

Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?

I dont sprak for other Linux users, I jumped the Windows ship when I had my entire system messed up with the cloud. Completely jumped ship and wrote over my Windows partition when Bitlocker corrupted the files on the Ubuntu side when I updated the Ubuntu OS.

Windows sucks. Windows hates its users. Windows is gonna be exposed someday, I swear it, its my goal in life. I personally believe at least half of all bad things are windows fault, nowadays. no, im not joking either, just think about it. conflict resources, human trafficing, DRM and multi-market anti-consumer technology applications... the longer you think, the more Im right.

if you dont hate Windows, and Microsoft, you arent paying enough attention.
