Rob Pike is NOT a fan of AI. Why do I notice the trend that all the good programmers seem to hate AI?
>>107680973>just because you think you're a person doesn't mean you're not programmableYou're a good example of that.
>>107673108none of his grievances were of the performance of AI itself, only the knock-on effects of data centersfor all we know he thinks its great but it's just too expensive
>>107673108The AI will be sending the murder drones to his house within a year
>>107676354So you're saying I can prompt something like "write me a new OS in C, inspired by unix but take the concept of 'everything is a file' to the absolute maximum possible" and AI will just spit it out?
>>107683835A lot of clankers actually believe this.

It's a thing you can use to tell the computer to open the image you saved as HotBae_42.jpg and then save it on the HotBaes folder. It can also do useless stuff like replacing the lower right corner of 200 files with a peenus-weenus-shaped pattern if uh you tell it to do so.It shouldn't be confused with the terminal emulator, which is basically like what ATMs are to banks. If you've ever been to the bank, you should know you can actually go to a physical human teller and deposit a cheque and/or take money out from your account, but you can do that too by just going through the ATM (which is open 24/7 in my neighborhood idk about yall).Anyway, unless you're at the Computer Science History Museum, you won't find anybody actually using a real terminal (a typewriter-like thing you'd have to hook up to your computer so as to turn it into your obedient slave), so instead what you'll see people using is the terminal emulator.
>>107682832>What's a terminal?unironically what everyone will be using after 2027your computer will live in the cloud and we'll (as in (You), not me) will be forced to use dummy terminals

Is there a recommended GUI toolkit to use for common lisp applications, or should I just make my own with SDL?
>>107685875I'm building an editor/IDE, cl-sdl3 has worked the best for me so far.GTK also works pretty will with cl-gtk4 or cl-cffi-gtk4 (latter is more feature-complete, former has a bit easier of an API). Depends what your goals are.

What's up with Microsoft Surface?
>>107685626It gets the touch functionality working, but it doesn't work well. I tried and was disappointed, also see https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface/issues/1061. A wacom tablet on Linux works perfectly out of the box with libwacom and KDE which is what I ended up settling for.
>>107683808It's not that deep
>>107685293>Last time my then-employer matched the missing inventory to auctions I had madeare you black
>>107683808overpriced, but you can find them for half off or better after one year on marketplace/cl/ebay. If you buy this way they are an outstanding value. As far as I can tell they are the best-built windows machines. I have a 10 year old SP3 that still runs. Yeah the tablet functionality is gimmicky, but the dock is excellent and it's really nice to just set it up on the desk below your main monitor as a secondary display without a second keyboard getting in the way.I think the people who shit on surface are disingenuous and have never used one. This is the all-in-one device everyone has been bitching at Apple to turn the iPad into for fifteen years. If it's this good with Microsoft behind the wheel, imagine if someone more competent made an alternative.
>>107685902No, believe it or not, I'm white. I just have anti-social traits because I have an inability to feel remorse. I end up doing these crimes because they feel insignificant to me but they always get a strong reaction and I end up posting about these to piss off the people who categorically reject me.
>>107684304>all i really watch is old anime anyways, or vhs tapesIt's quite comfy to watch DVDs and older media on a CRT.>thank yougood luck on the repair, man, I might be wrong though.>On marketplace i've seen 15 women in the past 2 months begging for someone to sell them a tv/vhs comboe 13' tvThat is pretty strange. Probably just for an art project, maybe trying to film some music video or something? 15 of them... gee>I don't really have a reason to spec whore muchThe crazy electronics engineering in super high scan rate CRTs I find cool. Even an old 77KHz budget monitor has deflection circuitry far stronger than any 480p TV. Most of the high spec CRTs were sold for sane prices a decade back from their original owners. Now, most in possession of one are fucking redditors or trannies relisting them for 1000+. High prices yet the tube is also worn out. Loads of clueless people now listing budget monitors for £400+ cuz "retro gamin".
>>107682855>>107676967>>107675548>>107673802Do you guys know where to get high quality replacement parts, then? I'm afraid to go on eBay and buy whatever is available and cheap. >>107684700Depends.I've heard that Security+ is a requirement for getting certain jobs for government contractors. If you have plenty of experience in IT/cyber to put on your resume then they might not do much. I think they're mostly for people who didn't get degrees or internships to make their way into entry-level jobs to show some proof they can do IT stuff. But I also hear about people with degrees getting the certs anyways.
