Why are ""people"" (gamers) still so anti-VA? Modern VA panels have absurdly fast response times on par with IPS (faster actually except for black to black). On the plus side you get the blackest blacks, whitest whites and no backglow messing up everything.

I understand OLED is superior to both and TN is the competitive choice but it's weird seeing how many people still tell each other to steer clear of VA when your average $200 VA panel is almost certainly better than a $200 IPS one.

>Aliens probably exist
>universe is vast and old enough that an advanced civilization capable of keeping tabs on us isn't out of question

So my question is how would an alien civilization take the idea of humanity creating superior intelligent being that could probably surpass all human feats. Would they just sit watching us create a monster that would unleash chaos across universe? And if other rogue artificial intelligence does exist out there would they allow us to create a competitor that could be a threat to it?

>Aliens probably exist
The universe is vast beyond comprehension but life is still very fragile. It's beyond a miracle intelligent life was able to come about in 5 billion years seeing as everything in space wants to constantly kill us, not to mention the earth will be uninhabitable to life in only 1 billion years making intelligent life impossible to form again on this planet if we get hit hard enough. All of our luck had to occur in a span of 13 billion years.

Call me crazy but I think we're probably one of the first if not the first.

You don't need to know Physics or traditional programming to do HDL design. VHDL and Verilog are less like programming languages and more like circuit layout descriptions. You need to learn boolean algebra, synchronous digital logic, state machines, etc. Most of it isn't that difficult, but there's a whole separate set of knowledge you need that is only loosely related to normal programming. There is some unique difficulty since circuits all operate simultaneously vs. typical single threaded programming where you just execute a sequence of instructions, but IMO this is easier to think about than multithreaded programming where you also have to deal with coherency, atomicity, deadlocks, data races, starvation, etc. There are different kinds of performance metrics in HDL design than what people typically care about in software: power, area, latency, throughput. For example, adder circuits (that compute the sum of 2 N bit numbers) can be ripple carry adders where the area (number of logic gates) grows O(N) but the latency is also O(N), or carry look ahead where area grows O(2^N) but latency is O(log N), or a hybrid with scaling somewhere between.

You reminded me of Project Looking Glass, a Sun Microsystems initiative to develop a three-dimensional desktop environment for free and open-source operating systems. I miss Sun. /bug/ wasn't supposed to make me cry, but alas.
>anyone tried getting looking glass to work on freebsd?
I researched "Looking Glass Linux" and it seems to depend on KVM. So you would have to remove that barrier. FreeBSD does not support KVM.

Yesterday I learned docker (via podman) works on freebsd ... and has for like 3 years. Is it simply terrible and thus people don't talk about it or is it something people aren't familiar with?
>>
>>107661992
FreeBSD has better docker already, why would anyone bother?
>>
>>107662111
There are some things that are distributed only via docker. Using docker from freebsd sounds far less miserable when compared to installing linux to do it.

Could I read their docker compose or whatever and piece together what they are doing in realty to install the tool? Sure. Do I care enough to expend the energy to remake the wheel? Almost certainly not.

Aversion to software comin from Linux, primarily.
This reaction is unique to its community, composed mainly of boomers over 60 years old. Developers, on the other hand, love Linux; FreeBSD, starting with the 15.0 series, implements Linux epoll and improves LinuxKPI to run Linux drivers with minor modifications.

>>
The scrollbar got fucked up.
It's become harder to touch it to scroll.
Posts displayed on screen don't match with what the scrollbar tells you, which is evident if you post, get a (You), or use filters that highlight posts.
The release version has a brighter colored section at the center of the scrollbar that shows posts from the current screen which got removed.
Currently the scrollbar seems to use where it is in the thread's location to show posts, e.g at the top of a thread it uses the top portion of the bar, at the middle of the thread it uses the center part, and at the bottom of the thread it uses the bottom part. This may not be obvious on shorter threads but on longer threads like on /vg/ it's easy to spot.

So, what's Microsoft's endgame here? No matter what you think about C/C++ vs Rust, using AI to rewrite what's essentially their entire product line is a fucking insane idea and anyone with half a braincell can see that. basically taking people back to the 1970s of time share computing where they, the corporations, own all the software and we pay to access the software over the internet. if they had their way we'd be using dumb terminals that can't be used without the internet.

why are so many programming "help" groups like this? like, somebody will specifically opt into helping people, and then get frustrated when they dont do exactly what they expect. it constantly feels like im testing everyone's patience whenever i ask for help and its even harder trying to just learn everything myself, especially considering all the weird semantic differences in both the language itself and guides.

like i can imagine a full script in my head but i wouldnt know how to translate it into the language im currently using. and on the offchance that i *do* get the help needed, usually its just "oh just use the blah function", so its not like i just Dont Know How To Code or anything i just dont know the shit thats specific to the engine, and its not like i can just look it up in a glossary or something because the words can be totally different from language to language, like how "object" in one language can be "entity" in another, and object in *that* language refers to an object in an array or something, so theres just a huge language gap that i cant really cross without the help of others, which sucks because working with others sucks

I have to draw a line between smart and true genius, there just isn't a safe place to draw it. Emotions are going to affect perception, which will easily produce an effect where the kind and patient person seems more wise. Real genius (like yours) will tend to grow in a way which does value intelligence, except over time the capacity for recognizing how different a level of reasoning they enjoy actually is from everyone else makes continued tolerance difficult.

You are right, true wisdom is necessary to value mentorship and advanced teaching.

Because 99% of people who comment on these "support" forums don't know shit themselves. If they don't know the answer to your question they feel stupid and they hate that, so they will chime in even if clueless just to numb the feeling of being stupid. I used to waste time on these forums and subreddits until I got very proficient in a certain thing and realized almost every answer is retarded and nobody knows what they're talking about.

IDK man, this typically boils down to RTFM. If you truly know what you want to write and how to express it in one type of code, then you will be able to build the translation by reading the manuals and examples from the other code.
Your comic is also probably over-abstracting. Especially if you are a beginner, quantifying method A and B and then comparing their value as equal is usually going to be incorrect, and method B will probably be materially incorrect for reasons that would take too long to explain. People can also be assholes too. Hard to say what's happening without specifics.
