I needed to format my PC to have clarity of mind so I'm transferring from Education to W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2021. Is there anything I should know? Beyond what's in the OP.
>>
>>101190478
No, except if you are using a single disk for both your stuff and the OS you want two separate partitions so it's easier to wipe off the system in the future without needing to worry about your own files. 100-150 GB is fine for the OS partition in most cases.

>>
>>101190512
been doing this for 20 years ever since learning about partition managers and it's frustrating as hell MS doesn't offer an idiot proof way for any user to set it up
i get it's more complicated, and people dont want to learn shit, and even those that do are still afraid of computers, but if that's the case then windows should just do it by default or from the OEM
windows has never had problems installing programs to a 2nd partition and that's the only "problem" that would ever occur from this, with the far bigger advantage being data safety

>>
>>101189466
>>101190658
no, you can't delete the volume bitmap, it's a critical part of the filesystem
if you want to shrink it, you will need to do it offline, meaning while it's unmounted.
>>
>>101191298
i'm using a not-latest-version with blocked updates on my work vm. it's effectively an offline install (meaning everything is blocked in the firewall by default with a couple exceptions, this includes blocking windows update)
i only use it for solidworks, so the only reason it's even on 10 is because solidworks dropped 7 support

im trying to load a copy of windows 10 to a flash drive to reboot my glitchy, new(refurbished) lenovo laptop

is this the file i download to my laptop? from this page?
https://massgrave.dev/windows_10_links

i assume i pick the
>Windows 10 Consumer 22H2
>English x64

I just downloaded rufus and im going to attempt to boot this file to the flash drive. the instructions i received were
>Flash it(windows 10 file) to USB with rufus or Ventoy
>Boot into the USB

ALSO
i have windows 8.1 on this flash drive.
how do i clear the flashdrive to accept the windows 10 file?
is there an option to do this on the Rufus program?

>>101195607
You might as well get the latest Business ISO instead to use Enterprise. And Rufus will wipe the USB before flashing the new ISO to it.

How do I stop Windows 10 from automatically switching to a new audio device when detected? I don't want it disabled, I just want to only use it when I manually switch to it.

it seems you can't, it remembers if you disable devices though, so disabling them will prevent it from automatically switching to it

How do you know the pre release OEM version of Win 11 IoT LTSC will update into the release version on launch? What if it's just stuck at pre release forever? I don't want to waste my time installing it just to get fucked, but I also need to set up a laptop with something right now
>>
>>101197671
The open preview for OEMs that massgrave offers is part of the actual 11 24H2 line instead of the insider preview branch so most likely the version that releases for everyone else in October will end up as the version the open preview OEM will be at.
>>
>>101197671
Just use win10 IoT, it gets security updates until 2032 and win10 is superior to win11.

What's the latest windows slop I should be using? Still Win10 IoT? Should I try holding out until Win 11 IoT is finalized?

Installing 10 fresh these days should probably be done through IoT LTSC 2021, yeah. Like the upper comment says the current release of IoT LTSC 2024 isn't a closed preview thing anymore and many anons have mentioned installing it and enjoying their time with it.

One of the main reasons I'm still on Windows is because I need a reliable Android emulator. Waydroid is still shit. Problem is, for some reason, my Android emulators have stopped working properly on Windows 10, so I was hoping Windows 11 might solve that issue for me since it's newer.

For some reason my switch pro controller isn't being detected by my computer when connected with a wire. Bluetooth connection works, but has a bunch of input delay and low range, so I'd prefer wired. The problem isn't the cord- my phone is recognized just fine with the same cord. All the tips I've seen on reddit haven't helped so far.

used explorerpatcher to revert most stuff (rounded window corners, taskbar, explorer ribbon, alt-tab interface, context menus, etc.) back to how they were in win10

svchost is basically a service host or a wrapper that services run under so they run with the right privileges. by blocking that, you're blocking processes like the DNS Client from reaching the internet. You can check this if you open services.msc and view the service details (e.g. DNS Client). Yes, it means you end up with a bunch of basically unnamed processes in task manager but it means stuff like the DNS Client can run without having full control over the system.

Look for the "novo button" on your laptop. It can be close to the power button, close to the charging port or on one side depending on model.
If it exists, then turn off your computer and turn it on with using that tiny button.
>>
>>101207586
No, Windows will not show up.
Your USB might be ill-suited for what you want.
I was able to make a bootable USB for installing Windows 10 IoT LTSC using Rufus and a Patriot Rage Light flash drive. It is kind of random what models and brands of flash drives will work

You know what should work more easily?
Get whatever NVMe or 2.5" SATA SSD and stick it in a USB enclosure, grab an Orico enclosure off of Aliexpress if you are not in the USA, or if you are in the USA, there's Orico and plenty of other options for cheap on Amazon. Cheapest SSD brands I would recommend on Amazon are Kingston, Timetec, and Patriot. Others will be chinkshit and you will have to pray very hard for your own sake to not get chinked.

Yes you can re-install the Windows Store if you need it, though you could also just install winget through the winget-install script from PSGallery and install UWPs through that without needing the store.

Just switched back to Windows 11. The new multiple desktop feature seemed cool, but the default way of switching desktops is either using the mouse or mod+ctrl and left/right arrows to cycle... I was hoping to get it changed to mod+1,2,3 etc. like I had in XFCE, but I couldn't find anything for changing any kind of windows shortcuts in the default system settings. Googling this kind of thing is a nightmare because the results are infested with retarded boomers and indian tech support replies, and "windows 11 multiple desktops" is such a generic fucking search anyway.

Anyway, I managed to figure out that PowerToys has a utility for remapping keys in windows, so that I could get the functionality that I want on say mod+1, but the new problem is that I can't find any way to switch to a specific desktop, making it useless.

I could go on about this shit for hours. Why is windows so fucking hostile to its users? I was thinking of using a program I had last time I was on windows called workspacer, but it hasn't been updated in nearly a year. Anyone else been down this rabbit hole? I'd just really like to have it how I did before where I can press mod+3 to go to messaging, then mod+2 to quickly go back to what I was working on. The default behavior of those keys opening the programs you have on the taskbar from left to right is fucking stupid and just encourages having 10+ things pinned to the taskbar to guarantee a consistent order

Done ranting but yea, I've been spoiled by linux

Some drivers might whine that you have Winhoes 10 instead of 11. You might need some app to extract the drivers from their .exe installer in order to install them manually. worse yet, you might even need to edit them to get them to run. Some companies bullshit users by forcing games to check for Winhoes 10 22h2 even though there is no reason to force it and 21H2 (IoT LTSC) will do just fine, I was reading the other day. No doubt some may force Windows 11 the same way just to help Microshitz force you to update.

you can download a media creation tool straight from MS. did you even do that yet? it'll build the flash drive for you and then you just boot from that and install windows. you don't have to dick with rufus unless you really want to.

the installer will grab whatever hardware key you're entitled to off of a chip in the PC, so you don't even need to specify what build you want.

How do I use Windows Firewall to block inbound/outbound DNS traffic over IPv4/6? Whatever rules I'm creating here clearly don't work due to me being a massive noob as it still shows my machine talking to all the IP addresses I created rules to block in the Firewall settings.
>>
>>101215832
I always thought windows built in host-based firewall was shitware. It really sucks.
But to answer you question, I think you have to go into the advanced firewall settings to actually to anything useful, and even then it's super pozzed
>>
>>101215832
Anyways, put your settings in this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/firewall-network-protection-in-windows-security-aef9838b-d081-fd75-3b1b-e5fa794c003b
>>
>>101215849
I'm in Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security, creating outbound rules here (unless I have to do them for inbound as well). I've been trying to start simple with blocking remote services.gfe.nvidia.com IP's and WNS IP's on any & all protocols/ports, but I clearly must be doing something wrong because when I reboot and open up Wireshark it still shows the system querying and responding to these domains on the exact same IPs.

Of course, if I don't specify any IPs or block svchost.exe all traffic will cease, but I'm trying to block stuff one by one. Maybe I should try using SimpleWall instead and figure out how to only block stuff that I list in user rules as opposed to everything by default.
>>
>>101215890
Yeah what your describing is why I call it shitware. It seems to be very selective about what rules it actually enforces and I have no idea why.
>>
>>101215896
Maybe it has a hidden whitelist that prevents you from blocking certain IPs, like if you try to block Microsoft IPs or their partners it'll just ignore it. It wouldn't surprise me if it was compromised like that so they could keep collecting more user data from their keyloggers and Windows Defender, or just to annoy you with "something happened" or "we couldn't get this feature" notifications. Fuck, it sometimes even pings Microsoft when you open WordPad from what I've noticed.

well you can use DNS hits to gauge attempts to connect to a certain domain, but it's different in that DNS is queries from a DNS server, and doesn't actually involve the servers listed in those queries

Does partition order for GPT/UEFI system disks matter?

I just used mbr2gpt to convert an MBR system disk to GPT.
However the layout on this converted disk looks different to the layout on Windows installed from scratch on a GPT/UEFI computer.

Fresh installed Windows 10 has

But the mbr2gpt converted disk has
>NTFS, 12/50 MB used

Is it ok to roll with this or should I move that 100MB partition on the mbr2gpt converted dsk to the beginning?

i find women in their late 20s better than late teens-early 20s women. they're more fun and sexual. by then theyre young enough to still have most of their natural beauty, but have also got a clue and have perfected their looks. sure naturally they're better at 18, but they're kids and haven't figured out how to maximise their looks yet. but by late 20s, arguably up to age 30 they're max hotness, peak coom eliciting performance. perfect bloody compositions too. 18 year old are usually still too thin for my liking. late 20s they've started to put of the hefty but it's still nice and proportional, not straight up fat yet. just starting to thicken up. perfect balance. and of course they are better at sex and more fun and open than they were at 18.

of course after 30 they fall off a cliff though. late 20s is perfect.

Saar, please ensure you have adequate power on your pc.

I upgraded to LTSC like 4-5 years ago and I also created a partition back then for all the garbage that required normal windows and didn't work with LTSC. I no longer have the password for that version of windows and the security questions, despite me answering them accurately, are saying I didn't. Is there a way to upgrade to a newer LTSC on my main without everything being erased and freshly installed, or a way to create another profile on the partition so i can at least use it? I'll be honest I forgot a lot of this shit and i really don't have time to fuck around with this. I've lived with the old LTSC just fine but some fags bought me a game to play and it requires nu windows.
>>
>>101223998
Would help to know which LTSC it is. 2019? 2021?
>>

If your CPU is at least an 8th Intel Core then having it on you won't feel any difference. Any older though you should keep it off because it starts effecting performance pretty bad because of having to emulate certain security tasks they can't do efficiently.
This is one of the main reasons why 11 has those soft requirements, though naturally you can just use an older CPU then that and just disable memory integrity as it's enabled by default on 11.

>Fresh Windows 11 Pro install on laptop used 6GB of memory on startup
>Windows 11 IoT LTSC install uses 3.8GB of memory with the same stuff installed
Damn, 50% reduction in memory usage just by using IoT LTSC.
>>
>>101225713
Well you have to remember a bunch of services don't run in the background of IoT LTSC cause the programs that use them don't exist. Also that because those programs aren't even installed there's basically no background UWP tasks unlike with consumer 11.

Can I get a recommendation for software that:
>Can make a pdf out of images, allowing me to add, remove or shuffle pages around
>A simple (really, simple) photo editor that allows me to crop images, set an image ratio (like 4:3) and enhance low or high exposure images for clarity.
>Also, a filter that makes documents seem "scanned". Can be part of above
I tried some programs, but they were convoluted as fuck.

Then you could probably make a boot USB with an LTSC 2021 ISO and use the upgrade option to install over it without removing files.
>>
>>101226334
Apparently it's just a thing that MS pops up on your computer if you're still using something like mainline 21H2 10.
>>
>>101226334
so...you beat the halo demo...not bad soldier...not bad at all.
>>
>>101207960
You know, there was someone who had a similar problem you're having. They fixed it by switching what software they used to create the boot media and that new boot media worked fine.
You should really be using Rufus if you aren't already.
>>
>>101227911
That error mostly comes down to installing Windows on certain Intel CPU computers and it asking for the Intel rapid storage drivers which you can extract from the installer with a command line flag and put on your USB.
Also helps if the USB is formatted FAT32 which the Media Creation Tool does while splitting the .wim file into smaller .esd file chunks so they fit with the 4GB limit.

>10 years support on IoT LTSC, EoL 2032
you're telling me I can use this copy of Windows 10 for 8 more years without a problem?
>>
>>101228152
Pretty much.
>>
>>101228152
yes
>>
>>101228152
It's going to get security updates till that date. This doesn't mean that all software will be compatible with it until 2032. If the software you're using drops support for Windows 10 21H2 you won't be able to use it. For now it's only a few games.
>>
>>101228501
that's how windows has always worked for 40 years dumb zoomer
some retard dev always starts supporting only the latest edition and nobody gives a shit because it's not worth it and run their current version of windows for its entire 10 year support cycle before upgrading

my boomer uncle got a new w11 laptop and he absolutely hates it
would w10 ltsc be the best bet for him?
he just wants something for internet browsing and the occasional boomer game from his youth
>>
>>101228808
You might want to try wiping it and installing IoT LTSC 2024 on it. The laptop won't get scared that a non-11 OS was installed on it and it's just as speedy as 2021 just with an 11 base.
>>
>>101228713
I was just answering his question.
>>
>>101228831
NTA but if a boomer hates it it's probably because they don't like the UI. IoT LTSC 2024 has the same UI as W11, right?

Can anyone tell me if they can download new Teams from Microsoft's website?
The download button appears to do nothing no matter which computer I try it from. I think they broke it.

>>
>>101223817
That might have been it.
At one point I had photoshop and clip studio paint open while generating as well.
>>
>>101229970
That's just asking for trouble anon. If you want to play with SD you shouldn't really do other highly straining graphical tasks while it's generating, especially if your graphics card has modest VRAM.
>>
how do I stop one program (battle net update agent) from opening the uac prompt? By stop I mean not give it admin rights, prevent it from asking, automatically deny etc.
>>
>>101230000
I understand it now and am allowing my poor old PC a break between short sessions. Got really lucky that nothing actually broke.
>>
>>101222607
reseat your ram and try to upd8 your bios if you have an intlel cpu. msi and others used cpu and memory power settings which weren't approved by intel
>>
>>101230120
When it comes to graphics cards for use with SD most recommend either the 3060 12GB or the 4070 because they're relatively cheap with more then enough VRAM to comfortably use it. Might wanna invest.
>>
>>101229649
if no one chimes in, then for sure, wait for Microshitz to fix it.
>>
>>101228808
he will get used to it in a week
>>
>>101226089
That's a game-specific thing, as far as I know. Look for full-screen mode in the game settings or change the resolution to match your monitor's max resolution or otherwise match the aspect ratio. There is a chance that the GPU settings themselves could be affecting, this will be in your Radeon/NVidia system settings outside of the game, find the settings page that manages whether alternate resolutions are stretched or maintain aspect ratio, etc., but I strongly doubt this according to what you tell us. Check your game settings first.
>>
>>101226015
it depends on the program that opened the window, some will not allow readjustment because the programmer(s) were too lazy to implement it

My 11 Home on my i7-12700 machine uses 5.1GB at startup. I have a bunch of MS stuff disabled, but I do also have a bunch of third party things going on, too. It's all relative

OP has info on debloating Winhoes 10, and Winhoes 11 takes all the same stuff, then you can look up anything else in web search

where's all that 3.8GiB going?
i have a browser, image editor, and media player open and i'm not using that much

Reinstalling Winhoes, any version, from an installer is bloody annoying, and after an anon introduced me to Macrium Reflect, I'd rather have drive images of fresh installs that can be written to drives in a couple of minutes than going through all the BIOS and installer hassles and wait times.

I also occasionally refurbish older used machines to resell, so Macrium Reflect is a massive time saver and convenience. I'm blown away at that just medium compression in Macrium Reflect can compress a whole damn 30GB fresh install to a fraction of the size. I've got "templates" for a few versions of Windows now, and I scored a dirt cheap, hardy, and lightly used E6330 to serve me as a support machine. Being one-machine has annoyed me incredibly in the past.
>>
>>101230610
It's why Macrium Reflect 7 Free is recommended in the OP. It's pretty much the most just werks drive cloner.
>>
>>101230641
I didn't go through the OP when I started visiting this thread, so an anon brought it up. Should have done so from the start. That said, there's not much in the OP's resources that I hadn't picked up on over the years already.
