the user-facing driver software itself is pretty good at this point; I still don't like the UI but it's reliable enough and has a lot of features

My 1080ti pulls 70w minimum running 1080p144, 1440p170, 1080p60 displays. With two displays locked to 60hz I can get it down to 20w but regardless of the refresh rate three is always at 70w. It's the same if I use my intel igpu too. This is on linux x11.
I think I have two choices. AMD card and hope the drivers work better under linux or getting two M27Qs and hoping same res/refresh fixes weird x11 bs with mixed refresh rate. Does anyone here run 3 monitors with linux/nvidia and have low idle power draw?

Yeah they've been getting bigger. Bigger heatsinks make for lower noise which is something people like now. With that said, you have jumped up quite a few tiers as well - better to compare it to a 1080/Ti. Still larger but not nearly as much.

Pretty much, yes. It got so bad that even Intel CPUs were getting caught in the crossfire. For example, this 4c/4t CPU is apparently 2% better than a 16/32t CPU according to Userbenchmark.

HDD are still relevant in very large sizes (10TB+) if you need to store a lot of bulk data, but even in that capacity they are quickly becoming obsolete as SSDs are just so much faster (10-100-1000x-10000x depending on the workload)

Yeah, I've been free from the spinning disks since 2016. I couldn't imagine going for one. Maybe an external one, but even then Sabrent makes external NVME enclosures so I don't really see the point.

Overall the build is fine. Decently balanced and no major mistakes.
Some comments:

Get the non-X if it's noticeably cheaper. Same chip.
>Motherboard
This is the one component that could be considered a mistake. A620 boards should be <$100 and you probably shouldn't buy them.
The "default" AM5 board is the $130 B650m HDV/M.2. Take a look at its feature set and decide if you need more.
>Storage
Personally I'd get a 2TB NVMe and ditch the HDD altogether. Indeed, I wouldn't bother with <8TB HDDs at all.
>Case
You'll probably want an extra fan with that case since it only comes with two.

There are some notes about USB header adapters. Are they included with the mobo or case? If not, they're not necessary to get the pc functional right?

I saw it recommended somewhere but I'll drop it. It wasn't going to ship straight away so I'll install the stock one and see how it performs. I could always upgrade it later if I think it would help. That makes sense, thank you.

Alright that's what I assumed. I like the case so I won't do that. The adapters are probably cheap on aliexpress, I'll deal with that later. The adapters will make the front usb slots functional right?

what do you think of internal card readers like this? does stuff like this even fit in modern PC's anymore?
I feel like a boomer for wanting this in the first place but it just seems so nice to be able to pop in any sd card and not have to plug in an extra device

You're not alone. I find them useful thus far if you have a 5.25" bay or 3.5" bay to support them (along with an open USB header on your motherboard) and have no card reader of your own. A lot of Dell/HP workstations had their own too.
