Never Pixel unless the only thing you care about is photo quality from the main ("wide") camera.
S24 Ultra is probably the best option. Best performance and great cameras. OnePlus 12's software is too chinkified and has worse cameras than the Ultra, while the only thing it has going for it is marginally better battery life and, admittedly, MUCH faster charging.
>>
>>102029622
how fast are we talking about charging? I could charge my Mi 9 in about 30-40 minutes, that's adequate for me if it's the same with the S24U

>Using the Samsung 45W adapter, our S24 Ultra got to 69% (nice) in 30 minutes and took 65 minutes to reach 100%.
>Either way, in our testing, the OnePlus 12 took 24 minutes to reach 100% when starting from empty, which is pretty awesome. You do need to enable the 'Smart rapid charging' toggle in the battery settings to get the fastest results - otherwise the phone will charge a little slower (we clocked 28 minutes - still pretty impressive).

samefag here. after an extensive research, lots of trials and too many errors, i found the solution
all those official guides are garbage. they don't know nothing! (most weren't even for Samsung devices. fastboot ftw)
terminal commands? patching files? downloading firmware? forget about all that! none of that is necessary
all i had to do was to install TWRP using Odin, copy LineageOS and Magisk files to phone's memory, then use the built-in 'install' option to install LineageOS, let the system boot once, then go back to TWRP, 'install' the Magisk app, reboot to LOS and then finally enjoy my rooted privileges
the hardest part was to rename the Magisk .apk extension to .zip before installation

posting this again:
time to buy new phone after almost 5 years.

Oneplus 7T has died (last great OnePlus phone)

Was interested in pixel phone (7 or 8) but seems like pretty bad deal based on SOC alone. I'd love to have great camera. For me, Speed isn't a concern but efficiency is.

S24u

>>102030113
This is because they didn't turn of GOS, you in suffer faggot.

I hate Scamscum as a company, but the s24u is by far the best phone on the market. I thought the pen would be a gimmick, but it actually been handy for signing online documents and taking quick notes. Screen is gorgeous, with the least glare of any phone ever. If it didn't have a selfie camera hole, it's be close to perfect. Camera looms great; I'm sure it's comparable w iphone and pixel. OneUI is the best Android OS if you don't care about the botnet. Actually sharp corners on the display, a breath of fresh air from all the rounded shit.

Graphene looks excellent, but you'll get a gimped SoC with a pixel.

OnePlus12 looks great besides the curved screen.

Ultimately, I think the s24u will go down as one of the best phones ever, respect of they return to curved screens or somehow fuck up the s25u.

What's the deal with a Oneplus 12? It looks like the best Android flagship to get for the price, performance, storage, everything. What is the downside? Yes the only choices are in fact apple and pixel.

A few years ago OnePlus was an option but they've hit the shitter after peaking with the 7 pro (my current phone btw)

So now we're left with
>Apple (overpriced but supposedly does what it's supposed to do, just werks tm)
>Pixel (clean android experience, good cameras)
>Samshit (the specs are supposed to be god tier but I hate the UI so much I'd rather unironically KMS than use it daily)

Does it have any build quality issues? Because, for example, Pixel 8 pro reportedly has some sharp spikes under display (antennas or whatever IDC cos other smartphone dont have this issue) by design that some users report to rip through the screen under specific circumstances (like applying a screen protector) causing it to have all kinds of symptoms and eventually break so as to completely refuse to turn off. And I only got to know it after I had bought the damn thing.
https://pikabu.ru/story/est_probitie_zamena_displeya_na_google_pixel_8_pro_11084704#comments (its in Russian so use auto translate, from a repair shop worker explaining tge issue with the quality of Pixel's engineering and build design). I haven't heard anything like that. That sounds like a defect in the design. I have heard OnePlus quality control can be all over the place, meaning some of the phones have shitty components. I read that they will void warranties if the phone has cosmetic damage like 6 years ago, but IDK if that is still the case. As long as it'll be covered for a year from manufacturing defects, it's probably pretty safe to purchase, but we all know Chang can be a piece of shit sometimes with customer service+ warranties.

I wouldn't even have known it didn't work had they not called me. Is it dogshit programming? Do chinks outsource to jeetland too? Fuckers

My current phone (Moto One 5G Ace) hasn't been doing so hot since upgrading to Android 13 (LineageOS 20). I'm thinking about swapping it for a used Samsung Note S10+ 5G which I will also install Lineage on. It's older but the specs are better. From what I can tell only 2 versions are supported on Lineage but neither seem to support 5G in the US? My carrier does say it will work though so I'm confused. Am I misunderstanding something here?

You already own a Samsung so either the A55 or the base S23/S24 (if you don't care much about battery size) would be the most natural upgrade.
If you really want to bail out of Samsung then the G85 or maybe the Edge 50 Neo would do, no Idea about the redmi phones but their bloatware is usually on par with Samsung's.

If it's a device that is always with you and you'll be using a lot then it's not bad to have a nicer one (snappier, versatile camera system, oled for potentially nicer reading with black screen and low light, high brightness for using under the sun, battery that lasts a few days and fast charging, promise of more software updates like the new samsung and pixel lines having 7 years). Getting every 1-2 year flagship is too much though, there are probably nicer uses for the money.

Any midrange and or Flagship Killer bros here?

Art thou needth to spend how many of hundreds to even a thousand dollars for a flagship Apple or Samsung phone? Sometimes a damn good upper midrange and Flagship Killer is the way to go, especially if it manages to have a flagship chipset with it

>Poco F5 Pro, 12 GB RAM and 512GB storage, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

Though already has AMOLED burn or signs of AMOLED burn in the form of the home screen buttons' "marks" or artifacts being barely visible in bright white screens in less than a year, after 9 or 10 months. But I suppose it isn't a problem and is negligible as it won't be evident or visible if the screen is Dark or in different colors.
>>
>>102055223
Used to be in the midrange or upper midrange gang for a few years, never quire flagship killer, but ended up jumping to flagship this year. Would've gone upper-midrange (7-series Snapdragon) if there were phones around 6 inches with those chips, but my only options were Galaxy S and iPhone unfortunately.
Got tired of gigantic phones after having 2 phones in a row with 6.5 and 6.7 inch screens respectively, after upgrading from a standard-sized phone with a 5.2 inch screen with 16:9 ratio.
>>
>>102055223
Shame on your burn in. My old one burned in too but it was the status bar and I only saw it by year 4, when it was almost dying.
I nearly got an A55. But even if I forgo my disdain for Samsung, the "yellowness" of almost all A55 I tried put me off. Both retail and demo units. Maybe I'm just unlucky but I saw a sub 250 Poco X6 Pro with HDR, 1.5k 120Hz screen, ufs 4 (but usb 2.0 kekw) wifi 6 and 67W fast charging so I rolled with it.
Living without sd cards/jacks and to en extent, USB 3, is kinda hard but flagships don't have them as well.
Next upgrade I'll go with bypass charging one but that'd be years from now.

The pixel UI is designed for infantile morons that are scared of in depth customization and actively hates the concept of information density. The new weather UI literally removes information in favor of long winded AI generated weather reports that give you advice rather than specific information. It is not "clean android", AOSP is barebones and OneUI more closely resembles it than PixelUI. I genuinely, truly believe that only retards and contrarians like the pixel UI experience. Smasnug might be a mess as soon as you get two layers deep into any settings menu, but at least you still have a customizable android experience, especially if you dig into goodlock.

How do people tolerate the jank?
I tried a S24 for a few days coming from an iPhone 14 and holy fuck it's annoying as hell to use! The phone itself is more technologically accomplished for sure, but holy shit is the OS unbearable to use.
>try to snap a pic directly from Signal to share with gf because I don't want the pic staying in my camera roll after
0 processing, incredibly grainy and smudged image because Signal (like basically every other app) doesn't use the CameraX API. That's because Google management is fucktarded and can't stop themselves from deprecating Android's API's every other year to replace them with the new shiny toy, so app developers don't bother trying to keep up.
>try to log into my apps, using Bitwarden as a password manager
In half of the apps I don't even get the option to bring up the autofill with Bitwarden. In the other half, it does pop up, but it's never able to automatically match the credential based on the app's URL. No such issue on iOS.
>no native support for CalDAV/CardDAV
In iOS I can sync contacts and calendars/tasks via CalDAV/CardDAV right in the OS settings, and then manage my shit directly in the default apps. On Android, you go with Google or you can fuck off apparently.
>battery dropping 2-3% per hour while my phone is sitting on a table doing nothing

>connect my phone to my car via Android Auto, pull up Waze. Try to have Waze on my phone and music on the car's screen, but I can't because Waze won't let you use it on your phone while it's connected to AA.
WHY??? Who the fuck designs this shit? It's literally a Google app and it won't let me perform this simple task on Android that works perfectly fine on iOS?

but still how the fuck do you scratch a screen? I'm like a decade of using Smartphones I only scratched a screen protector once, just took it off and never bothered putting anything else on.

I did because I wanted to see the ecosystem (I got an iphone 11, macbook air m3, airpods pro 2 and ipad pro m2 11), and it works more or less the same so there shouldn't be an issue switching (where I live no one uses facetime or the message app, only whatsapp which is annoying to switch without losing all history so app wise it didn't matter). Though the iphone kinda made the least difference in the ecosystem (even considering how the ipad is crippled by the software) and the ecosystem itself is too limiting (third party accessories I like don't work perfectly like mouses, mechanical keyboards and some audio stuff, plus most of my house supports google assistant or alexa controls but not siri). I'm back to android with the s24 ultra (kinda unfair to compare an old iphone with android flagship though, but the only thing I miss is faceid).

Why is Stock Android so shit? The awful notification shade, the shitty font, the babyish color schemes, the lack of customization. I think Motorola is one of the few OEMs who allow any kind of personalization. There's Chinese UIs that I would take over this.

I've been using the English variant but it has layouts for most languages. Here's how the Hiragana variant looks like. Might take some getting used to the slide typing but it's well worth learning.

Android 15 is having something similar to secure folder natively (private space). I hope they add a way to require biometrics for opening regular apps as well like iOS will be adding.

Got an Android phone for free, 2016 model, 1080p screen.
It can't run 1080p video, movies downloaded thru torrent, gets very hot and stutters, makes it unwatchable.

Sorry if it sounds weird, but do phone and smart device (wearables ala Garmin and SmartWatch builders) generally try to progress their devices by the total weight, or do they usually try to make things slimmer and weigh less and THEN improve upon it?

Sounds stupid, but I would be fully okay, e.g. with a smartphone series that kept their weight at 300g max and see if there is enough progress to improve from the last generation every one to two years while staying true to one of the properties.

Or maybe the maximum size of the phone like one that's as big as a 3310 Nokia but has very good specs for it and they are trying to increase or focus solely on more energy efficiency and energy capacity of the phone.

I am just curious.

T. Redmi phone 11 (128gb ROM, 3+2gb ram, with 128gb SD cars) owner.

I am slowly getting into economics or how the current economy works and how to adapt it to it without fucking over consumers that also are pro users from a standard use case.

I also have found out some settings in some wearables/phones that increase their duration, which I will try to implement by using c# of possible.

Thank you for Listening to a drunk person.

>>102061689
Try to connect your phone to your computer, open the folder there and copy and rename the file.
>>
>>102063121
an s24 with bloat still outperforms the pixel 9 in every metric, I wouldn't get it unless it was significantly cheaper
>>
>>102062677
$500 for an 8+ Gen 1 phone is not bad at all I'd say, people are buying Galaxy A and Pixel A series for not that much less. Software support seems to be 3/4 which could be better but meh it's ok enough

Man, nobody cares about hardware nowadays. I remember talking about smartphone and PC hardware a lot with IRL friends back in the mid-2010's, but after Covid I feel like people stopped giving a fuck about what hardware the device they own has (CPU manufacturer, GPU model, etc.) as long as it plays the games they like and supports the programs they need.
Friends of mine that had really great phones back in the day like the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S10+, etc. all now either have a random Redmi Note [number] Pro (if still unemployed) or an iPhone (if they got a job).
And if I ask them what chip their phone has, they straight up don't know or just look at me weird.

Ideally at minimum some $200+ midranger or a secondhand flagship. For midranger - anything will do, but especially Samsung and Xiaomi are popular and can take decent photos for the price point. Samsung have better software and support, but Xiaomi usually takes better pictures. Look for the Galaxy A or Xiaomi Redmi Note series.
For used flagship - your best bet is either Samsung S series or a Google Pixel. S20 FE or S21 FE will be great options for about $150-200 used, but no idea about Pixels pricing because they aren't sold officially in my country, only by third party stores and resellers.
You could also get any somewhat recent iPhone and just skip the "caring about specs" part. If all you want is to post on Insta and watch porn, anything equal or newer than the 11 will do the job. Avoid the base model 11, any SE and any Mini, unless you don't care about how good your porn looks.

I am not sure myself. I am waiting for the next poco phone iterations before I start doing some research and look for decently supported phones that allow me to get 2y+ support after buying via company or custom distros(?) without fucking up mobile banking apps.
For now my note 11's battery has a battery integrity of 87%:
4362mAh of 5000mAh are left to use.
The moment I reach either 80% or finish my apprenticeship, I might be able to get a phone through the company I am interning with as a partner to the retraining center I am working with.

Would be fun to have a chance to buy an android phone every 2-3 years that's subsidized since it's a dual sim work of art with high specs.
Can't wait to either sell them for a profit, or use them as cheap homeservers if it's easy to use.
>>

>>102063472
call me shallow but nowadays I care more about AnTuTu and Geekbench scores than the SoC by itself unless I'm getting a Poco or Xiaomi (they absolutely need to be Snapdragon in order to install a custom ROM)

anything above 500,000 points on AnTuTu v10 is perfectly fine for most people, add a UFS memory if you care about longevity

currently rocking a mid-range Samsung phone with a Dimensity CPU, my previous phone was high end slop with a Snapdragon 865

>take nice instagram pictures
Aside from the S24, the IG camera on android is still incredibly awful, as is the case with other social media cameras. You're better off with an iPhone if its important to you.
