Hello.
I have the Samsung Galaxy s24 Ultra.
How do I feel about it?
>>
>>102294598
>performance that will last 10 years
A desktop PC with high tier components today will be better than an entry level PC in 10 years and still be more than usable. Invest in one of those and then just get a $300 midrange phone that you will replace every 3 years.
>>
>>102294639
>A desktop PC with high tier components today will be better than an entry level PC in 10 years
this is false and i already have an top tier pc
i don't want to buy a new phone every 3 years, i wanna buy a very good one once in every 8-10 years
>>
>>102294598
buy pixel 8, then buy pixel 13, repeat every 5 years
>>
>>102294678
>i wanna buy a very good one once in every 8-10 years
You can do that if you want. But not one single company plans to support the same phone in 10 years time, so you won't get updates and your performance will obviously be worse than the other brands in 10 years.
>>
>>102294269
not me! the iphone i bought 2 years ago will continue to work just fine for years to come. and it'll get feature updates too. thats why i buy iphones, for the long term peace of mind.
>>
>>102294700
>performance will obviously be worse than the other brands in 10 years.
so? the phone with a good SoC will literally pay itself back if the chip is powerful enough to meet all the needs for 10 years
meanwhile you could be wasting money on subpar products
>>
>>102294678
Even if you buy one of the highest tier phones out right now such as the S24U, OP12, P9P, iPhone 16 Pro Max (coming soon), Xiaomi 14 Ultra, etc. you'll most likely be looking at a new phone in under 5 years due to battery degradation.
>j-just have Pajeet in the mall swap it for a new battery ever 2 years!!
And lose IP68 waterproofing and have Pajeet potentially crack the back glass? Get out of here.

A phone will not stay "snappy feeling" when it's 8 years old and all the apps are designed for it's newer model-relevtives.

i'm pretty sure any top end modern chip will run most games in 10 years. maybe not the ultra high end games but casual arcade games for sure.
>>
>>102294598
10 years is impossible nowadays

Pixel 8 with graphene

s24/24+ will last you 7 and they're a much better deal than the ultra with practically no trade offs

for ios the 15/16 will also last you 7 and are basically the same as the pro (or just get a used 15 pro when the 16 launches)

if you're willing to import from china pretty much any brand is a bang for ur buck but their updates vary, try xiaomi or oppo. huawei is still by far the best of them all if you don't care about google

Budget phones still have headphones jacks. If you can afford a midrange phone you can also afford some $50 entry level wireless buds. Why do you want expensive phones to have 3.5mm jacks too? The Moto G Power 5G 2024 is an extremely good phone for the price, but the Stylus 5G 2024 is even better if you want a slightly faster Snapdragon processor (it's not much noticeable in day to day use. The Dimensity 7020 is not a slog) and a much better screen. The screen is the real king of the Stylus, but if you don't need that, you'll be saving hundreds of dollars to go with the G Power.

Yes we need phone that doesn't letter sized sheet if instructions how to get rid of ads.
>>
I'll give you a couple of examples so that those who haven't experienced Xiaomi will appreciate the scale of pissing in their face

One day I noticed strange notifications that some files were not found. These files were long-deleted (5-7 days) downloaded documents
Notifications were issued
by the com.android.providers.downloads.ui application (Downloads)
It turned out that there are two similar packages with the same name. The original com.android.providers.downloads, which exist in all androids, is a system file downloader and masking as it with a ui at the end in the name with the same icon.
One from xiaomi has a category: "ShortcutBadger Sample", which is responsible for showing if it's found new files. This package is obtained from the Getapps and is visible in the MIUI components. It asks for consent to data collection at each launch. It takes 43MB of RAM, it starts by itself. A standard package without a "ui" consumes 15MB of RAM and has notification categories: "loading", "ready", "in queue".
In addition, this pseudo-loader has an hash for receiving ads.
Chinks fucked up in one thing - this probe of theirs, which merges files, sent push messages if the file was downloaded not by a standard loader, but for example through loader of crdroid, and then was deleted before the data was sent to China.

The second example.
I somehow take the phone , and on the lock screen there are news about SMO and Putin from VK. I got into the system updates - they were turned off, as before. And there is nothing new . Using the search method, it was found out that the news in the background is loaded by a wallpaper carousel, which itself was installed quietly without notification and appearance in the logs. I frozed it through ADB. Three days later, it turned on again. Then I deleted this shit completely through the ADB.

Well, if you're such a nice goy that you think it's OK, then take xiaomi.

All of you are sleeping on Sony smartphones. I bought an Xperia 5 IV second-hand for about $230 and it's the best purchase i made this year.
>only company to still put headphone jacks on their flagship phones
>toolless SIM tray
>microSDXC support
>literally a DSLR camera smaller than my palm
It's the perfect phone.

Why do incels obsess over giant phones like this?

So when are we getting foldable tablets at <$1000
>>
here are some useless information about the phones i've used
>sony zx1 compact
i've used it for a long time, even with lineageos stuff because i really did like the form factor and still would use such sized phone.
people complained about 720p resolution but with such a small sized screen ppi was in a usable range and it saved on gpu so battery was really great with sd835. sad that compact line or compact phone in general just died off
also it had true 960fps slomo and funny gimmick 3d scanner app thing. it lacks OIS and camera2 api support tho
battery was good enough for me
>pixel 4
funny phone with funny features
people complained about top bezel but to my eyes it looks alright with rounded corners
soli radar stuff was essentially useless, they advertised it to be like something can replace touchscreen but it ended up being something works in 50% chance for swiping songs
i think it's peak design in pixel series before pixel 8
battery was poor but not unacceptable
>pixel 6
kinda boring phone, feels bit too big for me and this was the moment i realised the form factor of pixel 4 was the best for me
but the camera is good. their stacked raw weirdly (in a good way) acts as proper raw file
>s22 ultra
i don't really enjoy using this except zoom gimmick. with their confusing ui and cluttered bloats and less general snappiness really bothers me
their stacked expert raw is kinda full of end-to-end neural net artifact, making it very hard to use.
if you are a pixel peeper get a pixel phone

i don't play any intensive game
i do care about camera quality
i do care about ui and snappiness
i do care about android stuff

if you are like me get a pixel i guess
im thinking of going for pixel 10, pixel 9 or 9a when pixel 10 is out

What makes the iphone so successful?
>>
>>102300732
I'm a little bit hopeful iPhones are going to get slimmer like the new iPads did.
Unfortunately right now they have to chase the AI bubble and put in some fat batteries to power it.

>AI
Guess I won't be buying new technology ever again.
>>
>>102301264
You will buy when you see Apple invented AI at their presentation today
>>
All this computational photography bullshit has me concerned.
How can I find out whether a phone I might be interested in delivers real RAWs or not? I've seen a lot of "RAW" images from idiots online that aren't RAW at all, they're already post-processed with denoising+sharpening+vignette corrections+more already applied. I want none of that.

Phones delivering RAW was an amazing feature we got but it seems that it is being taken away in some devices and I refuse to buy any device that doesn't offer it.
I heard some Apple phones stopped offering it and only give users "ProRAW" which is absolutely unusable, but some have a workaround with third party apps to get it. Unfortunately this isn't just an Applel problem but some Androids also seem to be affected by the same plague.
>>
>>102301297
No I won't. Apple products are shit.
I got a Macbook for free from work a few years ago, worst laptop I've ever used.
>>
>>102301311
samsung has 2 raw modes.
in 'pro' mode of 'default camera' app, they will give you raw-raw file, i think pre-debayered?
but that's pretty much all of it.
with their 'expert raw' app, it spits out stuff burnt with neuralnet oven.
pixels do stacking stuff, but from what i can tell from their dynamic range and artifacting pattern, they doesn't seem to do further funnies than subpixel warping-confidence bias and stacking or it's something very subtle.
with pixel raws, lightroom's ai 'super resolution' feature works just like real cameras and i've never seen any phones capable of producing raw capable of being thrown into lr's ai stuff then giving me something proper back
idk about other androids. last sony phone i had had its raw api completely blocked in a driver blob level lol

It is difficult for Westerners to understand how "quasi-state-owned" companies work in Russia or China.
Technically, they are private. They even work as private companies, there is clearly a clearly defined structure for making a profit in a "normal" way. By the way, they are much less corrupt than large companies in the West, because they do not have direct access to government.
The tricky part begins here, the principle of its operation is difficult to explain.

> where small phones
In short, no one needs them. There is no demand for them, they do not have a target audience. Most people consume a lot of content from their phone, which requires a large screen.
Most people don't have a phone and laptop, especially poor people, so cheap phones are big now.

Due to the lack of a demand on smoll phones, the manufacturing process for large phones has become cheaper. The development of compact phones has become more expensive.

This is the end, this is a vicious circle.
>>
>>102301667
Depends on the form factor. In 14'' ones, there's just not enough internal space for it.
On the other hand in 16''-17'' ones, yeah, you could probably fit one in no problem.

But I think a more apt comparison is asking why laptops often come without an RJ45 jack.

I am still using the Note 20 Ultra and don't want to give it up cause I have a micrSD slot for a card that holds a fuckton of pirated movies, shows and all my ROMs and emulators.
They are stopping security updates next year... how fucked would I be if I just kept using it without the updates?

You wouldn't be fucked at all. You would be fine. Giant governments around the world, from the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority to Japanese corporations and governments use much older operating systems than you do.

Have not bought anything since they introduced more import fees here, plus all chink phones are cheap and domestically imported now anyways
I'm not buying from anything but our slopper retailers, no point
100-200 euroshekel phones
Why do I need more?

Yeah. Samsung still provides the best experience all around. Now the question is who is number two? Pixel shouldn't even be in the discussion considering their A series doesn't have micro sd card. At least the Galaxy A series does.

I pre-ordered the regular Pixel 9 Pro. I know the iPhone is technically superior and holds its value much better, but I'm bored of Apple now. I also think the Pixel's new design mogs it.

The event just shows that we have peaked at adding real features for phones. Nobody really cares about AI slop for image making or making custom emojis. AI generated responses are just trained off of information thats easily googled which anyone can do and thats not even touching on how retarded you have to be to use AI writing tools to fix up your lingo so you can speak to your boss through text properly.
The only thing that matters the most in the modern phone is camera and battery life because the rest of the features are just pure novelty.

Hello everyone.
I have a A54, but I kinda wanna change it. I don't havr any complaints on the performance, but i'd rather go with something more compact. My wife broke her Phone so it's the perfect opportunity to give her my old Phone and switch to a new one.
I don't play or watch movies on a phone. I will mostly use it for normie stuff (browse, social medias, music).

I hesitate between the Xperia 10 VI, the S23 or the Moto edge 50 neo.

Just be prepared for a shorter battery life because of the smaller size

OK lads, i was looking for phones around the 600€ mark and pulled the trigger on S23. There simply weren't much if any competition for it around that price.
I hope it's a decent phone.

Anyways, how the fuck do i import all the authenticator apps to the new one for steam, google auth, battle.net etc? is there easy way to do this cause otherwise i gotta spam logins like crazy and change the logins not to use 2FA until i get the authenticator apps running on the new phone. Also how do i export all my numbers from an very old phone (google nexus) to the new one which is going to get a new type of SIM card?
>>
MyUX is so fucking good jesus christ.
>>
Is there any proper stylus phone I missed, that sits flat when writing/drawing? I don't really care about performance, only needs to be up to date and preferably 16:9.

I have a Surface Duo currently.
>Duo 2 is always at an angle and out of support.
>Samsung Ultra, wobble and narrow screen
>Samsung Fold, soft screen, crease, and wobble.

You fucked up by not going with xiaomi 13, unless you really wanted to go as small as possible.

>how the fuck do i import all the authenticator apps to the new one for steam, google auth, battle.net etc
I don't think it is possible, given the brand and generational gap, unless the individual app itself allows for it.
>Also how do i export all my numbers
Check the contacts app settings on your nexus, there might be an option to export all data to a file for backup purposes, which you can then transfer over to your new phone and import. The "easy" way is to sync your contacts to your google account, but well, you're consenting to giving them your contact data (which they probably have anyway).

I don't exactly use this thing for vidya so the overheating is a non-issue for me, and every app i do use on it Just Werks. Bear in mind that i'm coming to this from an older Redmi with a Mediatek Helio G95.
>oled screen
out of all oled/amoled screens i used only one of them showed slight signs of burn-in after 2 years of use. No other artifacts. I take measures against that kinda stuff.
