Shameless repost

I just bought a MS33-AR0 and 128gb(32x4) of Registered memory but only after buying I realised the board only supports 96GB of RDIMMS . If I plug them all 4 in will I still get the speed of 4 DIMMS with 96GBs or should I just leave one out as a spare and accept only 3 channels?

Way over-spending on the PSU, I know about EU energy prices.
But it's still too much, get a 850W Platinum or even a Gold unit.

You should be using a 1440p monitor with that kind of system.
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/YR6nkJ

Even this PSU is good enough, ATX 3.x units had to pass low-load efficiency requirements.

>EU
where in europe?
Not all options ship everywhere
Since I don't know where you're from, I'll only look at germany

Swap CPU cooler for Phantom Spirit, it's an updated PA & better in every say while being identically priced in germany
I'd personally grab the cheapest 2x16gb 6000mhz CL30 set
I'd personally grab a cheaper NVMe, most people don't need a high end SSD (if you know you do, obviously ignore this)
Since your monitor is 1080p and you won't really benefit from DLSS, have you considered going AMD or are you a diehard nvidia fanboy?
That PSU is fucking expensive & stronger than you need.

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/fY7r9c
This ends up being around 200€ cheaper & should perform identical or better, although another option would be to stick with the 4070ti super and just get a 1440p/4k monitor instead then use DLSS
>>

DO NOT BUY THE SN770
It's broken on Windows now
https://community.wd.com/t/windows-24h2-wd-blue-screens/297867/58
>>
>>102792606
How so?
I have a very similar experience with AMD (onboard iGPU on a 7840U laptop with an OLED screen) and nvidia (4070 super, with an OLED monitor). On my laptop I don't usually use HDR because everything looks really washed out even after calibration unless it's HDR. On my PC it's a similar thing except I can make more software add RTX HDR to videos, but it makes some shit look weird so I always debate whether or not I should bother.
>>
>>102792671
>so is the 9800x3d worth waiting for
Probably slight performance increase on single thread performance, the ones who knew bought the 7800x3d for 300 when they could.

Although I still have my hopes up and wait for the 9800x3d.
>>
>>102792671

>>
>>102792531
asking from ignorance, how does a thicker fan make it better?
>>
>>102792531
>Is it better than the P12 (MAX) at the same rpms?
Probably a wash. Yes thicker is better but the P12 has more blade area and is optimized for lower speeds (such that a $5 fan can be optimized).
As someone who did this with a 6kRPM Delta your main problem will be getting it to hit those "same RPMs". It pulls 3.2A max so plugging it into a standard header is out. Means you need to a) find a PWM controller that can do 3.2A or, b) run it with voltage control off an old-style controller. Naturally the second option will mean your minimum speed will be much higher than the advertised 800RPM. Option A would get you proper control but 800RPM is still relatively loud by modern standards and the ball bearing doesn't help either.
All in all it's a fun project, and a great way to push the limits of air cooling, but not something you want in your daily rig.

>Why don't other fan mamufacturers build 38mm thick fans?
There's a few eg. those Fractal ones in the Torrent and ofc plenty of "normal speed" server fans from the likes of Delta. A few 30mm thick desktop fans exist too. I guess they're not common because it fucks with established clearances for radiators and such.
>>
>>102792755
SN850X is fine. SN770 is fucked. 24h2 changes the HMB values and older dramless drives with 64mb locked firmware don't like that.
>>
>>102792829
That's weird
Hell, I've had the SN770 for even longer too. The SN850X is a recent purchase. Maybe it's because I updated from 23h2 to 24h2 instead of doing a clean install?
Where can I even check if I'm affected by this?
>>
>>102792403
Maybe the wrong place to ask.

>are there any X86 computers
>that aren't intel or amd

It doesn't need the latest and greatest in gaytracing technology. Just something that works for basic tasks and isn't pozzed on the hardware level.

I'm concerned that the US will become an Orwellian dictatorship in the near future where tech is no longer content just spying on you, but actively ratting you out to the government.

>>
>>102792785
There's a lot of variables to consider but generally having a thicker chord gives you more static pressure. Or rather, it lets the designer increase static pressure without sacrificing "unrestricted" airflow.
>>
>>102792828
They only use 0.33A so using 2 on a header should be fine, right?
>>
>>102792920
This has been happening since 26100.2033. If you're on older then you're not affected.

The fixTM
https://community.wd.com/t/windows-24h2-wd-blue-screens/297867/41
>>
>>102792965
Oh my bad I was reading the specs for the 8kRPM variant. On Arctic's website they say 0.6A is the max so two on a header would be pushing it (assuming standard 1A headers). Probably fine with safety factor but you really don't want to eat your margins like that - use separate headers.
I'd be remiss if I didn't say that I'm somewhat sceptical of Arctic's numbers here. The max current on the 4k variant is less than one fifth of that on the 8k one. I understand there's nonlinearities involved but that's a huge difference - enough for me to break out the current clamps. If they got it wrong it's your house burning down.
>>
>>102793073
For what its worth changing to 64mb didnt fix it for others. Only disabling HMB entirely did but thats bad on dramless.

Fundamentally this is an entertainment device so it's all a "scam" from a puritan's perspective. If you can put that impulse aside you can make a reasonable attempt at optimizing the whole experience - there's diminishing returns on graphical fidelity so, after a certain point, a bigger or faster monitor would be more impactful than a better card. Then there's diminishing returns on that too so at some point you get more out of audio, or peripherals, or furniture. This is of course all within the confines of your budget and personal preferences. If you really like max settings but don't give a damn about how it sounds then, sure, pour the whole budget into the card.

to each their own. i personally want to hide the Cheeto dust that accumulates in there.

airflow is le meme in most builds. real airflow control involves ducting for your specific build but the aesthetic of clear ducting in a windowed case would look like a hamster cage (which would be ok if you're into that sort of thing)

Keep in mind, it's no guarantee the hyper 212 is better, it's just that hyper212 WAS very popular & known to be a good cooler and incredible value for the money (costed 20-25$ previously)

Sadly the image is wrong, the SKU says it's the 1 fan model yet the image is the 2 fan model, so you lose cooling on that & it might end up being worse than what you picked out
Sadly you don't wanna skimp on the 9900x's cooling so you might need to keep looking.
I've waded through too many pages to want to keep looking, so I think you'll need to find a good one yourself & check reviews (maybe the one you picked is good, idk didn't check)
>btw, do you think the 750 watt corsair PSU would be able to run the 9900x with the nvidia 5070 down the line?
Should be plenty fine

>monitor upgrade
>forever stuck with having to buy a top GPU to drive it
anon i have a different take on this, a really good monitor is an investment that can survive many upgrade cycles. just make sure it can natively handle all your resolution and refresh rate needs before you -> buy once and cry once

you can /gayme/ on a 32" 4K at 1440p and enjoy life with a nice shitposting desktop too. my 32" BenQ has been working fine for years capped at 60Hz and its all been good. if you can buy something nice and keep it for years you will not regret. even the shittiest GPUs can now support 4K for desktop use.

my monitor can either scale or letterbox non 4k inputs, which can be nice to have

The idea randomly came to me while I was considering whether to replace my 9-year old case (Cougar Archon) and to my surprise it actually exists. The only problem is I can't find anything made by a reputable company, only chinkshit. Would be ideal if I could keep this case for my next build.

I have one that I don't use in my current build (and one of those all-in-one card reader things). Usually they just werk but don't expect them to match your case and even the fitment is kinda iffy on the cheap USB panel (all screwed together OK but the alignment of the USB ports to the front panel is off by a little bit for each one in different directions, so bad soldering).

1440p is the same as 1080p if you run DLSS.
4070 is better, but it will only give 50% more FPS than a 4060 (You need to enjoy console ports like dragons dogma 2 and starfield to start caring).
Low FPS's like 60fps sound bad, but it can feel silky smooth if you just enable a frame limiter (and remember you can play fortnight and most indie games at 200fps with a 4060 on low settings).

hello everyone. I'm new to PC building. I'm a lost lamb from Mexico and I have a bout $20,000 MXN to spend for a gaming PC (~$1,000 USD). What's a good combination and a good place to get the part for someone in my range and area?

Can I aim for the 1440p with this budget or am I flying too close to the sun? In the OP's suggestions for GPU it lists an RTX 3060 12 GB, RTX 4060 or RX 6600. in actual practice what's the real difference between them?

Also if I find local sellers who try and sell me already built rigs, what are aspects I should be wary of?

>Corsair RM1000e
They haven't contracted Seasonic in years.
Corsair's higher-end units are supplied by CWT, RMe seems to be built by HEC.
https://hwbusters.com/psus/corsair-rm1000e-gen5-psu-review/

Corsair PSUs are safe though, and they will take care of you if you need an RMA.
The overall build quality & safety standards in mid to high-end PSUs have gone up with ATX 3.x.
Corsair's higher-end units were already exceeding those efficiency and safety standards.

I'd say the PSU, monitor, and memory market is pretty competitive & healthy.

If they claim they're new, they might not be
If you're okay with used parts (and as such paying used part prices), be wary of the PSU they used, a lot of prebuilt systems will have dogshit PSUs that can basically kill your system, don't use unreliable PSUs so if you don't know what PSU they use, assume you have to buy a new one & take that into account for the cost

Depends what framerates you're expecting to get at which settings. In the US it's "doable". In Mexico probably a fair bit harder. For example in the US you can get this in your budget

3733 seems to be the highest "guaranteed" speed for the infinity fabric
many chips can do 3800 but others (like mine) will completely refuse to boot at that speed on any voltage settings
3833-4000 will almost always boot but it will never be stable (performance gets worse and you get WHEA errors in the event log)

you have to ship it back first before they can approve the request or in some cases, put down a collateral for a replacement cpu that will only be refunded when your old cpu reaches them

BL103 is a High Speed (HS) variant that tops out @ 2200 RPM.
BL102's maximum speed is 1500 RPM.
I would get the 102 because your case fans shouldn't be spinning at above 1500RPM or even close to that level in most situations.

powerline adapters are hit or miss. i have 4 of the damn things and in my last place (apartment 1970s wiring) they mostly did not /werk/ at all, in my current house which has newer (1980s) electrical wiring they /werk/ until they don't and the red light comes on indicating sub-optimal connection, requiring me to reboot the damn things.

a friend with the exact same adapters has no problems with them in his house with 1960s wiring.

DDR4 > DDR5

if you are considering building a PC, use DDR4
DDR5 costs twice as much and you will realize ZERO benefit from the higher clock speeds

Your motherboard will cost less, your performance will be BETTER for less money.

Depends on your workload, but may be true.

Generally, you have to use parts that work together. If you're using DDR4 RAM you can't use any of the new CPUs requiring DDR5.
Unless saving money is the highest priority I don't see why you'd go with DDR4.

I want more storage in my pc (have 1 m2 ssd currently)
The options would be:
m2 slot 2 (but it's directly below the gpu so I don't really want to put something there for temperature reasons)
m2 slot 3 (but it only has 2 pci-e lanes)
sata (that's what I wanted to go for when I built this machine but they were suddenly out of stock/jumped in price so I left it for later)

This would be mainly for storing files, so write performance is of less concern.

Unless it's 5.0 (MAYBE 4.0) it won't run hot and will be perfectly fine under your GPU. Just put it in that slot, run furmark for like 30 min and check the nvme temps occasionally if you're paranoid. Worst case scenario you move it to the other slot and it'll likely still outperform the sata
