Low profile switches aren't compatible with normal MX PCBs, so "converting" it would require a new PCB and new plate.

I never ordered one, but you can still get them on Taobao. If you really want one then you'll need to do some research into using Taobao, and search for "珈蓝 Kalam"
This seller seems to have a few of them (and very nice handwriting)
https://shop103069137.taobao.com/?spm=pc_detail.29232929

Honestly I don't think it's worth it though, you're still going to be paying like $300 - 600, and you could just buy a nice keyboard for that price that doesn't involve fucking around.

Any opinions on magnetic switches here?

I don't have a KB with those yet, but I imagine having a 0.1mm (when settings it so low) travel distance for activation must quite nice for typing fast.

Very short travel, creamy feel with a nice actuation bump at the bottom. I prefer white switches to purple, as they're just a bit more travel but they feel very similar to white switches. Purple switches have that tactile bump that white switches lack. If you like tactile switches but desire the creamy white feel, purple is the way to go. I just don't like the 3mm travel, it feels strange coming from the standard 5mm and I never could get used to it. That's just me being stuck in my ways. I have nothing negative to say though about purple switches. They're incredibly based.

With the growth of Chinesium-Aluminium boards like the SK75, ND75, Rainy75, Bridge75, ect, ect, ect, I expect a lot of new people are getting into the hobby.
Give these Chinese companies a few years and I'm sure they'll be making Kalam tier clones, or at least inspired design of higher end boards for similar prices, and they'll be avaialble on aliexpress instead of you needing to jump through Taobao shaped hoops.

For higher end keyboard stuff, disappearing is the norm.
Don't stress about fomo though, remember that the hobby is growing faster than ever, and newer (and better) boards will continue to come out every year.
>>
>>103084263

I'm currently using MX Silent Reds, so the travel is already only 3.7mm for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Keychron is using "Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic Nebula Switches" which happen to be purple. It is hot-swappable, though, but only for other "Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic Switches" apparently. Do you have any experience with those?

Is there any good 60% ISO Keyboard with magnetic switches thats QMK compatible and hot-swappable? (and preferably has "floating keycaps") I only found the Keychron, but that's 75%.
>>
>>103082397
I don't know how much it costs in Poland or where to buy from, but I know if I had that much in the US I'd spend 15 on cherry clip-ins and 10 on lube
>>
>>103086483
I don't think you'll find a better prebuilt. Neo65 was also a good option but I think they aren't doing those anymore.

Typface has an in-stock 65% with a macro column coming soonish, but it'll be over 200 plus shipping and that's just for the kit, not prebuilt. Still, felt I should mention it because I like my Typface board.

>>103086861
All products eventually disappear off the market for good, but yeah it happens pretty fast with keyboards. I doubt it's the last 65% Qwertykeys will ever do.

I got the cheapest fullsize mechanical keyboard with all the keys to learn blender. The things lights blink distractingly every time I hit a key. I hate it. You can change the setting of the LEDs but you have to do it every time you turn it on. Doesn't persist or start on a quiet setting. I just want them on all the time ( dim but enough to see the keys in the dark would be best ) and not blink gaudily or distractingly. Sigh. All backlit mechanical keyboards for a reasonable price seem to be that same keyboard under the hood.

What should I look for in a soldering station that's for changing kb switches plus some other tech and retro vidya related stuff?
>>
>>103092076
Something with a modern tip where the heater and the tip itself are one piece. Not like the hakko 888D in other words. Look into the TS80P & its variants, pinecil, aixun T245, etc.
>>
>>103092085
thx
>the heater and the tip itself are one piece
why is that important?
>>
>>103092397
Separate heater + tip is just outdated tech. When I had an 888D it would take about 45 seconds to fully heat up. A modern soldering iron with a one piece tip can do that in about 3-4 seconds. Also means that when you actually apply heat to the thing you're soldering, the temperature isn't going to sag down as much. tl;dr - it's just a better way to do soldering irons.

yes hotswap is legos but don't bend the pins

They are fine but IMO, like most other silents, they feel mushy. I prefer the feel of silents like Haimu Whipsers, Lichicx Lucy have a similar mechanism for linears which seem popular.

>>103094812
There's not much difference in sound between keychron reds and browns. Bottoming out sound dominates both. There's a variety of ways you can dampen the sound on the board. And yes, you can just swap out the switches easily due to the hotswappability

Be sure to check which keychron site gets you the best offer, they have many euro sites with differing stock

>>
>>103093850

>>
I don't usually participate in this shit as I really dislike the MKB community.
I've had a Das Professional 4 (MX Browns) for the past decade. I want to get a keyboard with switches that are more silent but they're not membrane garbage. Currently I have some O-Rings to deafen the noise a bit (I bottom out like crazy when I type). What are some non-gay keyboards & switches (i.e. my budget is sub $200) that work here, I do not have a soldering iron. Keyboard needs to have a standard bottom row but can be TKL as I don't use numpad much anymore.
>>
>>103096862
Quieter than browns would require a silent switch, so get something like the silent cream yellows here. They're cheap, but cheap switches are getting good these days.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004669940336.html
Then get a Keychron V3 or Keychron Q3 depending on how much you want to spend, pull out the switches and swap in the silent ones. Done. Might take 10 mins at most.
If you were okay with a 75% instead of a TKL then I'd have said the SK75, Bridge75, or Rainy75 and do the same thing because those keyboards are a little bit nicer.

Functionality always comes over aesthetics, otherwise you'll hate the keyboard and never use it.

I find the difference between 60% and 65% to be like night and day. I used to use a Filco Minila while I was traveling (which was most of the time, back then) and the split spacebar Fn setup on those helps a lot, but I greatly prefer the flexibility of a modern 65% custom board, and a single extra column doesn't affect portability for me.

could get a prebuilt monokei standard with silent reds, on sale right now for like $70. That's a pretty good plastic TKL. Shipping might make it a bit over 100, still a great price.

Could also look at the Qwertykeys Evo80, another prebuilt but this one's aluminum. It doesn't have a silent option nor does it have a tactile option, but they come with lots of foams and they'll be quieter than a Daskeyboard4 with browns (I owned a Daskeyboard4 with browns for 8 years, I know intimately what they sound like).

Hello!
I'm going to build my first keyboard in the next couple of weeks, so I was looking up for a keyboard lube that I could get of off aliexpress, but I'm kinda unsure what I should get as I can't find many options.
I was also hoping to get everything from aliexpress to save time and money, desu.
The one I could find in my local store is a
Glorious Switch Lube.
Any help will be awesome.
Thank you!

I've never bought lube off Aliexpress, it seems like such an easy product to fake. I just don't trust it enough. And besides that I haven't actually seen anyone selling 205g0 on there, searching for it turns up nothing.

I don't know where you live but try to check some of the nearest online vendors of special keyboard stuff to see if any sell repackaged 205g0, 3mL is plenty for one keyboard

>>
>>103101990
Depends what you mean by small. A 75% could look small to someone who's never seen one, but it's better for most users who rarely touch the numberpad. A 65% is basically the same thing but without the function keys, so it's fine if you don't use function keys very often.
Any smaller and you start to lose important keys.

Yeah, I did end up looking for 205g0, but couldn't find it in any of the stores I looked here.

Unfortunately, we aren't really big on custom build keyboards, so I guess the only other option is to buy it from Amazon along other things, or eBay.

Thanks, though!

i dunno. they're good. there's like very little play between the normal undepressed state and when it collapses to actuate. there's not much slop if that makes sense, and there's enough resistance that i never fatfinger keys.
they're pretty fucking quiet. if a friend asked me if i had a good silent tactile switch to recommend, i'd recommend these.

>>103102284
>>103102346
actually i just remembered that they gave me a silent lemon in the bag with my silent yellows and i put it in my escape key.
it feels like the lemon collapses easier. less force to actuate. it almost feels like there's a shelf in the lemon. like, there's a little bit of weaker force required to start the movement, then a hump you have to get over, and then it bottoms out. so i guess that means it's more tactile, i dunno.
if i were to describe it, it's as if the tactile bump is basically immediately at the top of the keypress with the silent yellows, and maybe 25% of the way into the keypress with the lemons if that makes sense.

i don't prefer it. you might prefer it but i like how it feels like there's no "slop" at the top of the silent yellows.

soundprofile on both is pretty similar. the lemon is somewhat higher pitched and "ticky" to the yellows "tock". but it's so fucking minor i don't think i could do the pepsi challenge on it. for all intents and purposes i'd say they sound the same. the yellows sound like a pillow. muffled. soft sounding. there's something kind of mechanical sounding about the the lemons but the absolute volume is probably the same. i'm just talking about the flavor of the sound that they make.
>>
>>103102346
>>103102400
cool, may get the silent yellows, looks even cheaper than the silent lemons, and darker sound is usually less annoying than higher pitcher for other people, even though i love blues but have a different keyboard for that
>>
>>103102466
the sound is really damn close. i mean fuck i might be imagining it i dunno. biggest difference is that there's a little bit of pre-travel before the bump on the lemons, and there isn't really any that i can detect with the yellows.
but, the yellows are a bit stiffer. i like it, i mean it's not like it's exhausting to type on or anything. i dunno they're both good but i prefer how the yellow ones feel. watch more videos and see what others have to say but these ones were a good choice for me.
>>
>>103102284
I've tested out the silent peach, silent lemon and the silent cream yellow.
In my opinion the silent cream yellow is the best, it's noticeably tactile but far from a modern hypertactile switch. Feels satisfying to type on and not mushy.
The silent lemons are okay, I don't dislike them and they're a little quieter than the cream yellows, but they don't feel as good to type on in my opinion due to the bump being further down.
And lastly the silent peach. It's a linear and I'm not really a linear guy so I'm not the best person to review it, so yep I can say it's a linear. Probably feels great if you lube it and put some work in.
>>103102400
I did the exact same thing, put it in my escape key and managed to break it with a switch puller when I tried to take it out.
>>
>>103102509
>>103102526
seems like the difference between cream yellow, and yellow jade, is that the cream ones may come pre-lubbed? very similar otherwise
>>
>>103102551
i'm >>103102400
and i think they might be the same except the translucent housing on the jades. like, i'm pretty sure that was the only reason i went with the jades over the cream yellows, because of better LED transmission. could be wrong.

why arent more people talking about this? it looks like the best clicky mx switch ever made
>>
>>103102302
A new model F with a zinc case is very loud, but the click itself is kind of sludgy and there's quite a lot of spring ping and case ringing, so I would say there's a lot of sound quantity but disappointing quality. When there are problems, troubleshooting tends to be much less straightforward than an MX switch-based board. Unicomp model Ms are similarly loud and are less likely to require troubleshooting, but the thin plastic case leaves something to be desired.

The best switch sound I've heard recently is Kailh clicky Box switches (click bar), but I don't have a particular kit to recommend if you want something impressively loud. People have positive things to say about some modern click leaf switches, but I have no experience with them to offer a comment for you.

hardly tactile at all, similar to mx brown, but very short travel.

They feel like a mini squishy toy kawaii version of an mx brown, including the scratch. And the bottom-out is mushy. For me this was a disappointing switch.

Lichix raw big bump silent tactiles are the ones I like to shill, I think divinikey still has some. They feel fantastic, almost like rubber domes. Nice sharp rubbery bottom-out that's still pretty quiet.

and short*, that's important. it's 3.2 or 3.3mm or something like that, very different from what you'd expect from a brown.

Something about being stopped short of the full travel you're expecting, AND it's mushy—it feels bad.

>>103103813
because even if you wait for their frequent 40% off sales it's still the most expensive switch around. And it feels really weird to type on, too tactile for me. The tactility is sharp and right up at the top, it feels like punching through a thin sheet of ice to make each keystroke.

I'd love to get a Keychron V6, but I hate the OSA keycaps and the non-standard legends. Thing is, it's impossible to find a bog standard set of WOB OEM Cherry keycaps, as for some dumb fucking reason manufacturers are allergic to making something that's traditional, they have to quirk it up like a bunch of faggots. Just about every WOB set I've seen that was almost perfect had to fuck it up by putting mathematical multiply and division signs on the numpad for no fucking reason.

Seriously, I fucking despise how this entire market has an aversion to delivering a product that is Classic+ and they HAVE to fuck it up somehow. I want keycaps that look like picrel, painfully traditional, no math signs, no camera icon on PrtSc/SysRq, just the same shit that existed since the 70's, I want a sleeper mech if that makes sense, looks bog standard but has all the modern niceties underneath like NKRO, switch hot swap and all that. Bonus points if I'd manage to source matching NumLock/CapsLock/ScrollLock keycaps with a south facing LED window to program that in QMK, since not putting standard three status LED's in the top right corner is another one of those aversions so I'd prefer for them to just be gone altogether.
>>

>>103114577
>normal keycaps
Show me them. None of them are fucking normal, every single one of those insipid faggots have to fuck up the legends in some retarded way.

>>103114601
I honestly have no clue what's the difference, I want a mech board that looks like a plain 2000's office keyboard, full standard ANSI, no funky shapes, colors or legends, but has all the modern guts, so NKRO, switch hot swap, QMK/VIA and so on. Extra macro keys like the ones on the V6 are welcome, even if that'll mean I'll need to source extra top row keycaps.

Frankly, the V6 is the closest to an acceptable base for me, the C2 Pro annoys me even more. I do not use a Mac, I don't need LED's like this, I want a NumLock, CapsLock and ScrollLock LED's, not more, not less. If that's impossible, have them gone and use the RGB backlight with QMK for status LED's. I hate that this market is apparently so robust, yet no one can offer the sort of product I want, even though it's not extravagant by any means, literally keeping the old ANSI standard and upping the guts, that's all I ask for.

Not exactly but it's an acceptable level of faithfulness. Could use more descriptive legends on Print Screen/Scroll Lock/Pause Break and a regular menu key instead of an Fn key, but, whatever, looks fine. Assuming they're not actually glossy like the renders make them out to be.

I'd still need to look for extra blank keycaps on the macro keys though. Also I could see finding matching fonts for those see-through Caps Lock/Num Lock/Scroll Lock keycaps becoming a nightmare. I don't know why no manufacturer will just make exactly that kind of matching set with extra keys, seems like a no brainer. Plainest standard legends, modern quirky alternatives and matching see-through keycaps for indication.

kek, literally me as well. You get so many options, and even incredible customization that should offer limitless possibilities, and yet despite this, there isn't the product I want, even though the needs are nothing special. Happens to other products as well. The worst feelings is when the needs are flat-out standard shit that were, well, standard and common in a not distant past, and can't be found anymore in any recent product.
And thus, I came to understand why boomers are always angry. Probably because I'm becoming one as well.

it meets all the criteria for a hobby. you obtuse disingenuous retard. collecting keyboards, using various tools and modifications to alter, swap out parts, achieve certain preferences in various aspects. building keyboards from scratch which involved soldering, wiring, programming, potentially woodworking, metalworking, 3D printing, dyesub printing, and so on. it's the same type of shit as making model kits, or painting miniatures except it actually has a practical use case as the end result.

it's as much of a hobby as you want it to be. not a hobbyist toward keyboards? then don't be. buy one and type on it, the end.

>Kinesis Advantage
If you want an ergonomic keyboard, you should get one with customizable firmware because stuff like home row mods and layers is very important for being comfy. So the Kinesis Advanage is out of the question. (You could go for the advangage 360 pro, but it's even more expensive. I have no idea why Kinesis charges so much)
>Glove80
I claim that this keyboard is better than the KA360 in just about every way. It has more keys, has a better thumb cluster design, has a low profile, lets you load your own ZMK firmware, is designed with portability in mind and still manages to be less expensive. I got one and I really like it.
>Ergohaven
I haven't tried them but they seem like a good budget option. The keywell keyboards (Velvet V3, High Plains Drifter) are very competitively priced ($250 with minimal usable config, less if you supply your own switches and caps) and have hotswap switch sockets. They have fewer keys than the KA360 but this is okay if you're willing to either learn their layer setup or use your own (you can load your own firmware or use Via configurator). I'd look into them if I were you
>Cyboard imprint
This comes with hotswap switches and is even fitted to the shape of your hand. However, it's pretty expensive and options (like having a trackball) drive up the price even higher, and it takes like 5 weeks to ship. Man I love eyefucking the imprint on their website but maybe it's not the best budget option.

Keychron is always the first recommendation here whenever someone is asking for some specific layout or has weird requirements, because it’s just a solid brand and their boards are good.
If you want a common layout though like an ansi 65% or 75% then you can get better products for less money.

Looking for a 75-80% like pic related, don't care about the knob
>>
weird question but i bought a prebuilt luminkey65 and the caps came like sort of not pressed down all the way (now i see why some of the pics/videos from reviews looked like the keys sat high relative to the case), i just pressed some of them back down and they sit like a millimeter lower than the other ones.
any idea why it would have come like this, are you not suppose to press them down all the way, is this common on prebuilt boards?
>>
>>103125939
The exact answer depends on what country you're in since the prices can fluctuate a little, but the Womier SK75, Bridge75, Rainy75 are all around $100 and have the same features as Keychron Q series boards (so wireless, via, hotswap, aluminium)
And for TKL keyboards there's the Galaxy80 and GX87, but those two boards don't have via support but use their own software.
Then you can either spend the remaining $100ish that you saved on drugs, or get some fancy switches or keycaps.

Oh I almost forgot the ND75, which doesn't have via but it does come with a stupid little screen on the side of it.
It's a silly gimmick but I'll mention it anyway, because dumb gimmicks like that can be cool sometimes.
>>
>>103126032
Honestly it just sounds like the factory didn't do a good job of pushing the keycaps down. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't want to push the keycap down so it's fully seated.

spilled beer on my pok3r and it shows no signs of life.

I gave it a ISO bath and let it dry, it worked once and now it's back to dead.

what's my course of action here? I ordered a replacement, but I want to fix this turd if it's possible.
>>
>>103126553
Try more iso but with a soft brush. Try to remove any visible issues. If that doesn't work, you could get a new pcb.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to get a new pcb. If you haven't done any soldering before then working on a dead keyboard is a good place to start.

i do like the layout except im immediately disoriented by the lack of a super key when typing, and idk if its just the condition of it and age, but it's fucking brutal to type with atm, every keystroke feels heavy, the keys too far apart, and a sluggishness to it. almost like my typewriter. might just need cleaning and lube. the spacebar is also pinging and rattling, need to fix

I just had to type on someones Razer keyboard with green clicky switches and his WASD keys were so worn out that they didn't even click, also they were borderline linear in feel. The worst part is that I actually almost liked how those worn out switches felt.

Acer switches are neat. They're spring over membrane, obviously based on Alps, except you can easily access every single switch's internals in a matter of a minute or two, as shown in that bug pic.
A really cool design that unfortunately/fortunately hasn't had much of a use in the space now, as most newer switches are more dust resistant, but still cool nonetheless from an ease of cleaning perspective.

im trying to bind my caps lock key in via to function as caps lock when tapped, and FN when held down. i've always used LT(1, KC_CAPS) to do this. however when i tap the key it sends space.
anyone have any experience with this, im fearing firmware is half baked and the LT function is hardcoded to ignore whatever keycode i put in and just send space (since LT(1, KC_SPACE) is a native binding in via)

finished putting it back together, feels much better to type with now, could still use some lube or something i think. overall not a huge fan of these switches but cool board nonetheless, was fun cleaning it up. i found two hair pins, one staple, and a couple bodies. between the bath and hydrogen peroxide soak i used sanded/buffed out some of the bigger scuffs with a mini dremel. broke a piece of plastic off for some the rails on a key but super glued it back on, spilling glue all over myself in the process burning up my fingers. used the dremel to sand off the glue layers from my skin.

No, I’m Glarses. Buy my switches.
As for which one sounds the best… all of these are basically the same keyboard but with slightly different budget switches and slightly different foam, so I honestly think you should just pick based on aesthetics. If I had to pick based on sound alone I’d probably go with the Rainy75? But I like the SK75 a lot as well.

Where I live It would cost me 150$ for a Rainy from Ali to arrive in January, but I like TKL more, and the Mchose GX87 would cost 200$ with taxes and shipping, is it worth it?
>>
>>103133771
$200 seems a bit high, is taxes + shipping actually doubling the price? It's also worth checking out the mchose website since they've got an upgraded version of the GX87 on there for around $100, maybe that one will ship at a more reasonable price.
As for whether it's worth it, people would have paid over $200 for these a few years ago. Still worth looking around a bit to see if you can find it cheaper somewhere though.

Any other good recommendations for TKLs (or 75s) that I can look at that maybe have a better deal? I can get a Mchose K99 on Ali for like a 100$ and the build quality looks good but kinda too modern for me.

>>
>>103136046
Well here's an idea, the Inky75 from the elecfox store. It's basically just an SK75, like literally the same keyboard and made in the same factory.
Typically I don't talk about it since the shipping makes it not worth it over the usual recomendations for most people, but in your case it might be worth considering.
>>103136075
The GX87 is probably your best bet for a prebuild keyboard if you don't want to mess around with building your own. Has the features of a Keychron Q series board but closer to the price of a V series one. Get it from their website instead of aliexpress, since most of the aliexpress ones don't have via support.

well in this thread it might not be the case, but in more broadly accessible clusters of people interested, women being into keyboards has been a matter of desirability among hobbyists, since the point practically where keyboard content on youtube switched from 95% typing tests, to the point where influencers and channels centered around the channel owner as a personality became more or less the main talking point and attraction for people newly becoming interested in keyboards.

it went from being something that was in the same tier as things like ham radio and rc toys, into an entirely unlikened to its former image--a chic, quirky, yet popular burgeoning interest, where the community soon became composed largely of teenagers and college students whose similar came often to include stuff like boba tea, photography and sneakers.

this shift arguably co-occurred with that of places like internet forums and culture along side it, where it used to be something largely occupied by young men in a world virtually entirely unaware/uncaring of their concerns and activities, to something a knowingly false caricature of its former self, undeterred by lacking in organic authenticity. it might be comparable to a contrast between forms of music like jazz and the blues, in relation to something like pop music.

and that's where girls come in. something that would have been sneered at 15 years in the past by an individual, would be something that, when made much more accessible to them, and catering to them, holding them up on a pedestal as some living fashion statement and underdog, it becomes something of a bragging point, like a gold watch or a versaci hand bag. that's what makes it worth developing interest in. it's become something popularized. where before it was something cool because it was uncharted territory, now it's something that mimicks that and tries to emulate that notion, oftentimes fraudulently, and gets away with it. im such a nerd
