I was gonna delete that post because I just realized you were talking about CPU's not the 7600 XT.
Honestly any CPU is fine for gaming, but the CPU cores matter more for productivity work like video encoding or compiling or whatever.
If you are a schizo you could even go for a 8600g for a completely useless IGPU that has the same performance as the steamdeck, it runs cyberpunk at a cinematic 30fps at 720p, that's pretty good considering that's it's above the VRR minimum fps for most monitors.
>>
I’m retarded and asked this question last thread before realizing that this thread was made so apologies: I just got more info from a seller on marketplace about their used 3090s (MSI Ventus x3 for $500 and gaming trio for $600). He said they were used for ETH mining for 12 months on an open air rack and undervolted/underclocked. Are these good deals? I’m not sure how hard 12 months of ETH mining is on a card.

Does anyone have a PCI-e GPU bracket like this? How well do these work against sagging? My GPU has a rather hefty cooler and I'm afraid of it ending up with a cracked PCB like the ones in those Northwest Repair videos.

*I should add, it depends how much you care about reaching high FPS's on AAA games like cyberpunk. if you spend 2x more on the CPU, you might get 2x more FPS in certain games. Not all of them however, in some cases the games run like 1.5x faster.
The 8600g is somehow cheaper than a 7600x but it includes a crazy IGPU and runs about the same speed when you add a GPU to it.
It does yoink 8 pcie lanes, but the problem is that gen pcie gen 4 is so fast it doesn't really affect anything, maybe multi-gpu AI training? (it is worth checking with your motherboard, for example if you bought the 4060 TI with the nvme slot, the nvme slot won't work because of the 8600g, I think?)
>>
>>103094983
Depends on how many GPUs they were running on the rack and how much power each used. It also depends on if this was 24 hour mining. Generally though, it's not an insignificant amount and can wear GPUs down pretty quickly. The undervolt/underclock thing sounds like they're trying to make it seem not as bad to make a sale, and a 3090 going for less than half the price... that's a huge red flag, to me anyway. Dunno how marketplace works as I don't buy used. Assuming it's local, I'd ask if you could meet in person and stress test the GPU.

Those boards are several years old and may not have factory BIOS new enough to support the 5700X3D so if you get one make sure it has BIOS flashback to be able to update from a USB stick without the CPU installed. Otherwise they're fine if you get a good deal.

Ryzen 5500 or the 12100f to pair with the RX 6600? Pcie4 can definitely have an effect on some games and I am worried about how drastically that might change in the future. On the other hand 4 cores might prove just as problematic in the future...
>>
>>103095782
> Pcie4 can definitely have an effect on some games
Says who? The difference between PCIe 3.0 & 4.0 is 2% with a fucking 4090.
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-pci-express-scaling/28.html
You really think a RX660 is getting choked by the interface? By the time PCIe becomes a bottleneck for normal cards your system will be e-waste so don't worry about that.

As far as 12100F vs 5500:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPPeSNV9Hog
In general the 12100 is better if solely gaming as 4 strong cores > 6 weak ones but check the thread scaling on the titles that interest you most, while if you have a mixed workload that also includes a lot of rendering/video editing the 5500 might make sense then. We've been waiting for widespread N-thread usage in games all this gen and it hasn't come yet and I doubt it will for a long time considering the serial nature of calculations/simulations that aren't very parallelizable.

>>

https://youtu.be/Zw56BVOJJ-g
Videos like that scared me a bit, specifically the performance in spider man.
Although I couldn't care less for that game itself, I am worried other games might be similarly influenced.
I was also shinking of going 5500 just so I can be safer for CPU heavy games where they would be utilizing all 6 cores but I am also not sure if I will see any real difference with that either.
The extra ability of the 5500 for work loads and multi tasking would also be a good bonus, but only if the 5500 is about as strong as the 12100 in gaming, especially in the long term.

What is your experience with refurbished parts If you ever bought any? Or do you know anybody that bought them with bad experiences?
Found a factory refurbished x670e carbon at a rather substantial discount and has 1 year warranty from the seller too, but I wonder if the risk of a potentially defective mobo that might fry the cpu or gpu is worth it for a 20% discount over prices of a new mobo of the same model.

There has been no real point in separating the OS from the rest of your storage for quite some time. I guess you could argue some very niche uses, but if you had any real need for them you wouldn't be asking that question in the first place.

What would be the best upgrade right now, getting a 4080 super, or going straight up to a 7800x3d? > does that make sense?
Absolutely, if you do any serious shit with your pc. I plan to get an UPS for my vacation home here in third world Portugal because at least once or twice a year we have an outage for a few minutes. You need to make sure that the UPS can deliver the power that your PC + Monitor draw under load. Get a cheap digital powermeter and plug it between wall socket and multiple socket outlet where your PC and display are plugged it. Use your PC for a while and read the maximum of watts drawn from the powermeter. The UPS only needs to allow for a controlled shutdown of the system, not provide the power for a longer period of time which would require insanely massive batteries. 1000 VA, 600 watts for 1 min (300 watts for 5 min) should be enough for a gaymin pc and are still very affordable.
>>
>>103096434
I use WSL2 to mount the linux drive, but personally I never had a need to share games between the 2, it's mainly just porn.
I personally stick with windows for games because I found that adding a special voltage curve to my 1660 TI adds like 20% more fps at the same temp, and I really like msi afterburner's overlay (and I also think getting a frame limiter in linux working is weird).
There are a bunch of other things you need to factor in as well. Dual booting is definitely a tinkering experience.
I heard some people like using exfat for the shared partition, but I don't know.
>>
UPS are mostly a meme anyway, the chances of just a normal power outage damaging your PC are incredibly small.
But if you are indeed doing serious work on your PC and spending thousands on it, there is no reason not to get one.

use a frame limiter if your problem is choppiness.
it's not like getting higher spec hardware is going to solve your problem because the 7800x3d only gets 100fps, which is pretty low and you will still notice stutter while moving your mouse since more / less stuff gets rendered which affects the FPS.
just limit the fps to 60 or whatever is stable and enjoy that.

Core2Quad or Opteron. GPU depends, on Intel you could stick with the integrated graphics, AMD you'd go with a GTX 780 with nouveau. If you want actual good GPU performance AMD graphics is what you want but there are firmware blobs (even with the old radeon driver iirc), same with Intel's dGPUs and nouveau on GTX 16 series or newer.

If he took care of them (which he's claiming he did), not really a problem. Power cycling is worse than constant load. They're probably dusty and loud, so you can expect to have to clean them

>>103098945
>I would consider them to be lower midrange at this point. The 5070 is almost here
Both are within the range of a 4070. They would have to be outperformed by like 20% in FPS for them to be knocked down a bracket, and I doubt we'll see a jump that massive. Projections say 15-20%, so maybe. But for the 7800xt at least, if the 5070 doesn't have 16GB VRAM, why bother? You could go from a stable 90 fps(7800xt) or 108 fps(5070) at the same settings to pushing the 7800xt a bit more to get stable 60 and the 5070 would drop to an unstable 50 when it hits VRAM limits. Maybe DDR7 can make up for the lack of total. We'll just have to wait and see.

Mostly, I'm just skeptical of NVIDIA delivering after the shit show that has been the past couple years with them. The 5090 will probably be insane though.

>if the 5070 doesn't have 16GB VRAM, why bother?
Because VRAM != performance or image quality. It could be that FSR4 can pretty much eliminate upsampling as a differentiator between Radeon and Geforce, but that's yet to be seen, and even then FSR4 will be in nogaems vs the hundreds that have DLSS2+

>I'm just skeptical of NVIDIA delivering
Don't expect aggressive pricing from the green jew. It's the market leader, both in sales and performance + image quality in almost all price classes. Having said that, the small comfort is that pricing likely won't go up. I doubt Nvidia can extract much more profit out of consumers by raising prices, as it found out when it priced the 4080 at $1200. I would expect the 5070 at $600 with 4070 Ti performance. Maybe it'll have DLSS4 to go with it, as DLSS is already at 3.7 or something, we'll have to see.

The Radeon RX 8000 cards could be a decent option maybe a year into the generation, after they get their usual price corrections. I wrote a post here >>103043403 explaining my reasoning

I pretty much agree with you, but I'd say VRAM is very important given how games are trending. It doesn't equal performance or image quality per se, but it does limit what performance and image quality you can get from a card. Assuming a similar price range, I'll take a slightly underperforming GPU with more VRAM any day of the week. You might lose a bit of FPS, but you're at least safer going into the future.

I'd say upsampling is most important given how games are trending. The performance requirements have accelerated way faster than the VRAM requirements, and that's historically been the case as well. I can definitely understand buying the 3060 12 GB over the 4060, although I'd probably lean slightly toward the 4060, but not the 3060 Ti over the 6700 XT

>AMD begins winning
>Red wave in the election for popular and electoral
What is this timeline?
The only thing that could make this even wilder is if the next gen of AMD GPUs BTFOs NVIDIA.
>>
>>103100993
>people concerned about the price of everything because of inflation voted for the guy who wants to put more tariffs on everything
you can't make this shit up.
>>
>>103101069
Deus vult. But AMD needs to up their rocm game though.
>>
qrd on tarrifs?
is it my turn to laugh at Americans' extortionate hardware prices?
>>
>>103101089
They're all retards, basic retarded American logic is this
>bad thing happen
>It's the current presidents fault
I know cause I have a lot of family who insisted that all the rising prices on food was because Biden told companies to raise prices.
>>
holy shit FUCK GIGABYTE
>>
>>103101110
Trump promised to put something like 100% tariff on anything coming from china, so if anyone is in need of any electronic they better buy it now before he takes office.
>>
>>103101110
Nothing burger.
>>
>>103101089
I voted for Kamala dumbass. Tariffs are fucking stupid and consumers pay the consequence.
>>
>>103100993
If kamala win, Taiwan will get blown up. So either you get 5090 at 200% price or no 5090 at all. Your choice

You're right that Harris has much better policies, especially economic, but him winning the popular vote by such a large margin shows that >>103101149 is right. Contrary to what they say, Trump voters are just as emotional as anyone else. No one cares about facts, we all vote on feelings.

As long as I can get a 5080 for under $1,500 I'll be happy.
>>
>>103101069
Does AMD even want to compete at the super high end 5090 tier at this point? I don't think they even want to get involved there.
>>
>>103101176
>muh policies
they all lie to get your vote, not like anyone will hold them accountable for not doing what they promised at the end of their term. not voting is the best thing to do
>>
>>103101177
AMD made it very clear that they want to focus on the budget GPU market. Their high end cards don't even make sense. Once you're spending $1,000+ Nvidia just makes sense for the features. Unless you use Linux or you really don't care, AMD will give you better raw hardware for cheaper.
>>
>>103101177
They don't really need to. They just gotta beat out the low and mid range. Most people aren't rocking 4090s, and unless NVIDIA pulls some insane value for a 5090, the best GPU ever isn't going to help them.
>>
>>103101185
Yeah I agree. At the point when you are spending 1k on a GPU, what's the point of saving 100-200$ by going with a weaker AMD with lesser features.
But if you are looking at the much more popular 200$ tier, Nvidia basically can't compete at all.
>>
>>103101177
>Does AMD even want to compete at the super high end 5090 tier at this point
I don't see why they would even try. If someone is buying a 4090/5090 they're doing it because they want the best of the best or are using it for AI which is far more performant and compatible with NVIDIA cards.

Trump winning is making me consider pushing up my timetable for upgrading. How are 9800X3D supplies looking and realistically how long until retarded tariffs kick in and fuck over prices?

Trump isn't inaugurated until January, when the 5090 launches.

Tariffs on Taiwan too. He was complaining on the Joe Rogan podcast about Taiwan stealing from the semiconductor industry from America. We are fucked lmao

Let's say I want to go over 32gb of ram since I run a lot of mods and plugins for Final Fantasy XIV. How ram would you suggest I get?

How are asrock mobos and their bios? I'm used to msi's which has a pretty straightforward ui and doesnt obfuscate options under a million submenus and stupid names. A b650e taichi is like 340 euroshekels where I am and has a pretty decent feature set.
>>
>>103101379
it's full featured but way harder to use, I've just gone from B450 tomahawk to b650 assrock and it's horrible to use in comparison
>>
>>103101379
Solid boards, if you want to overclock, just it from windows. They have apps for that now.
>>
Lga 1700 CPUs support up to pcie 5, and supposedly motherboards like the H610 use the pcie lanes of the CPU to support the GPU. If that's the case, shouldn't lga 1700 mobos also support pcie 5 instead of just 4?

all motherboards do that, the h610 is the oppsite the pcie slot for gpu uses chipset lanes
>Lga 1700 CPUs support up to pcie 5, and supposedly motherboards like the H610 use the pcie lanes of the CPU to support the GPU. If that's the case, shouldn't lga 1700 mobos also support pcie 5 instead of just 4?
they do but only for nvme ssd
the gpu slot uses pcie 4 which is okay since no gpu has pcie 5
just be careful what mobo u get cause some z790's run your gpu at x8 if u populate the pcie 5 nvme slot
>>
>>103101454
They literally just uploaded it today
>>
>>103101481
do you have the CPU?

Brehs, I bought 2x32 gigs of kingston ram, one of the sticks was working. The seconds was not. I sent it back to the seller. He showed me on video that it is working. What do?
>>
>>103101504
your board is cooked, send it back
>>
>>103101504
Did you swap it around to make sure it's not your CPU or mb that's broken?
>>
>>103101224
Trump has literally already put tariffs on china in his first term, in return the Chinese put tariffs on US basedbean importa which caused a bunch of farmers to go bankrupt and need a government bailout to not be homeless. The man can and will impose tariffs if he feels like it and no one will be able to stop him.
>>
>>103101478
>all motherboards do that, the h610 is the oppsite the pcie slot for gpu uses chipset lanes
Are you sure. For example I was looking at the Asus h610m-k d4 and it supports pcie4, which should be impossible if it used its own chipset lanes instead of the CPUs since the h610 chiplet doesn't have pcie4 lanes itself.
>>
>>103101509
It was x870 pro rs. Yes, I did. I ran it with single stick, both in b2 slot. One of sticks worked and the other did not work. The light on the ram didn't even glow.
>>
>>103101506
Bro, in the same slot, one worked and the other stick didn't work. How is this mobo issue?
>>
>>103101536
it clearly is if the seller has the stick working you mong
>>
>>103101531
but did you test in slot a2?
>>
>>103101528
>Are you sure. For example I was looking at the Asus h610m-k d4 and it supports pcie4, which should be impossible if it used its own chipset lanes instead of the CPUs since the h610 chiplet doesn't have pcie4 lanes itself.
looks like not all h610 use chipset lanes only for pcie, that one uses 16 pcie 4 cpu lanes, instead of the 8 pcie 3 chipset lanes
>>
>>103101549
Since its m2 lanes are still pcie 3, wouldn't that mean it's because it still uses the CPU lames though?
>>
>>103101543
When using both sticks, I put it in a2 and b2. It documentation said to use only b2 when using a single stick. Should I have tried one stick in a2?
>>
>>103101498
no
>>
>>103101592
yeah you should have since its possible to have one dead channel because of the cpu or mb
>>
>>103101595
>doesn't have the CPU

>>
>>103101604
ok how much is asrock paying you?
>>
>>103101609
>how much is asrock paying you
nothing you're just retarded. you don't have the CPU, you can access the BIOS update right now and they have flashback on every board so what is the actual problem?
>>
>>103101602
Ok. If it had a dead channel on cpu or motherboard, then b2 with one stick would not have worked. I don't get it anon.
>>
>>103101580
lga1700 cpus have 20 usable pcie lanes
h610m has 8 chipset lanes
looks like they used the 8 chipset lanes on x1 pcie lane and one m.2 slot
only the top pcie slot uses cpu lanes here
dont know what they did with the rest of the lanes
>>
>>103101615
You are unhinged
I checked two days ago and it wasn't available. Asus had their bios up like 1-2 weeks back.
And it is customary to update your bios before getting a cpu unless you're retarded and wait until the final second to do it.
>>
>>103101623
are you expecting the CPU today?
>>
>>103101631
are you done sucking that asCock?
>>
>>103101636
so you say the BIOS is late, yet it is there and here before the CPU is released. I wonder
>>
>>103101623
I think you should buy a fidget spinner instead of a CPU.
>>
>>103101664
relative comparisons gets lost on you huh
>>
>>103101667
why does it matter that the BIOS is 2 weeks before the release or 1 day before the release? You still don't have the CPU to take advantage of the BIOS anyway?

Asrock is unironically the best motherboard vendor at the moment.
>>
>>103101619
Okay thanks, I think I got it. So if I were to use the specific board I mentioned above, I would be able to use up to 16 pcie4 lanes if the GPU were to support that, right?
>>
>>103101700
I don't disagree with that since I got one myself. I'm just pointing out that they still have downsides compared to asus/gigabyte

Check out OpenRNG. Free windows software that controls most LED systems. Works, but forgets at each reboot for me.
