I know it's an old card (1070Ti) and the game (BO6) is niggerlicious but this doesn't make sense, does the driver nerf your performance in new titles to bait you into upgrading? I've seen it reach 2GHz in other things.
>>
>>103102119
buy a 9800X3D tomorrow because there's going to be lots of stock and knife battle for the 5090 in January after Trumps inauguration
>>
Any reason to upgrade my current SSD (Samsung 980 non pro) to a newer NVME variant? Was thinking of the SN850X.
>>
>>103102146
iirc bo6 uses mesh shaders. your 1070 ti doesn't support it so it falls back to a slower path. its same case with alan wake 2 where the game will run on a 1070 as per minimum spec but very poorly so the true minimum is something like a 1650.
>>
>>103102166

>>103102166
3.0 x4 to 4.0 x4. The speed doubles, but does your board do that speed?
>>
>>103102167
I'm not even complaining about performance, I get like 60-100FPS without any sort of memescaling. But even if the card is doing something very inefficiently, why doesn't it clock higher? Is it maybe so starved by memory speed the core is half asleep?
>>
>>103102184
Sounds like I will then. Might as well repurpose my current OS drive to a game storage.
>>103102192
Yes, it should. Just looked at the product page again, the first slot is PCI-E 4.0.
>>
>>103102195
The card literally doesn't know how to process the shaders properly because it's not a real DX12 Ultimate card.
Like how your old AMD card isn't working right if it's pre RDNA2.
>>
>>103102211
That's probably a good answer but I'm too autistic to accept it, I still think there's no reason for the card to not boost if it has thermal headroom (even at no performance benefit) unless the driver specifically restricts it.
>>
I tested each stick in slot 4 and only one stick works, I came to the conclusion that one stick was bad. I returned it and the seller is able to run both sticks. So, what does this mean? What should I do here?
>>
>>103102259
did you run memtest?
it means either they're lying or your motherboard is broken or the cpu memory controller is broken.
>>
got everything for my build except the GPU which I haven't decided on. CPU has a iGPU.
should I start putting together the components I have and see if everything runs first, or wait til I get a proper GPU before I begin?
>>
>>103102267
I did not run memtest. I was able to run the system stable, no issues for 3 days straight across all my usual workloads with one stick, I even ran blender render benchmark and I was able to push the cpu temps to 95, but I was not able to make the system crash.

>it means either they're lying
I was afraid of this case, but let's be charitable.

>motherboard is broken or the cpu memory controller is broken.
How can this be the case if one stick is working, in the same slot, the other stick is not.

The fuck are you talking about, you still need good minimums even when you limit fps.

Lets say you have 2 similar cpus that run 200fps average and you want to limit them at 150 fps.
But one of them has 100fps min. and other 120fps min.
Which one is the better cpu?
>>
>>103102549
I think mohun is a controller game (maybe it uses KB+M, but there is no FPS controls?)
honestly just use FSR 3 or Lossless Scaling and use AI generated frames.
>It looks like shit, horrible artifacts, etc
honestly I don't mind 30fps, that's the fps a lot of gamecube games have, and all those games are controller based, if I was playing an FPS at 30fps, that would actually be brutal.
When you need a $300 CPU to run the game at 70fps, that's not really an upgrade, 70fps is still pretty low and choppy.
>>
>>103102673
that seems within range of leaks, as does everyone else's. AMD actually set reasonable expectations on performance. BUT I am not impressed because of pic related
>>
>>103102689
Honestly I don't know because when I limit my fps the frame times are 100% flat and there is never a % low except for make a shader compilation from a shitty game or something.
You are pretending like having a really good % low means the game will be perfectly flat and smooth, but it turns out what's happening in the game massively changes the FPS, and it will feel like a game that's constantly changing FPS, because it is, there is nothing you can do about it with the hardware (unless you hit the max FPS of your monitor, which acts like a frame limiter).
>>
>>103102644
Maybe it'll be a good deal in a year. For now, it's not really shaking the world over CPUs in the $200 range and that extra $200 premium easily can buy an end user a higher tier GPU. Only Someone already planning to get a 7900 XTX/4080S should consider the 9800X3D and only then because the 4090's price increase over those parts is so wide.
>>
>>103102711
yeah but there was no chance the 9800X3D would be as efficient as the 7800X3D because it was literally underclocked to not cook itself.
>>
>>103102711
thats because the 9800x3d runs 0.15v more voltage than the 7800x3d
>>
>>103102725
>my fps the frame times are 100% flat
If you mean those graphs then those are deceptive.
Your frametime graph will still look flat even if your 0.1% lows are HALF the fixed framerate.
Ideally your 0.1% lows should be equal to the fixed framerate, that means 100% same FPS all the time without dips.

>You are pretending like having a really good % low means the game will be perfectly flat and smooth
Pretending? Nigger wHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.
DIPS TO A HIGHER NUMBER IS NOT PRETENDING. IT'S LITERALLY BASIC MATH.
IF ONE CPU DIPS TO 100 AND THE OTHER ONE TO 120 THE ONE WITH 120 IS SMOOTHER ASSUMING SAME AVERAGE FRAMERATE YOU DUMB NIGGER

> but it turns out what's happening in the game massively changes the FPS
NO SHIT RETARD THAT'S WHY THERE'S ALWAYS A BETTER CPU THAT WILL HANDLE THE LOWS BETTER, THAT'S THE ENTIRE POINT OF THIS ARGUMENT
I TOLD YOU TO ANSWER WHICH CPU IS BETTER AT FIXED 150 FPS, THE ONE WITH 100 FPS LOWS OR THE ONE WITH 120???????????????????????
WHAT DO YOU THINK??????????!!1111111111??????? IS 120 LOWER OR HIGHER THAN 100, IS LOWER FPS BETTER=??????????
>>
>>103102711
Without context this graph does make it look like not a particularly great improvement, but the 7800x3d is already very efficient, and +20% in power is really not that much when you consider that the 7800x3d pulls around 40-70watts depending on application.
Can't wait to see oc/uv for this thing.

no it doesn't matter.
my point is that the % lows don't matter.
it's the change is FPS that matters.
You can be OCD about 1 frame taking a little bit longer to draw, but I care more about the FPS being flat.
Also I can't even tell if you are talking about the CSGO game, when you run a game at 500 fps, it doesn't matter anymore. That is an extreme situation, most AAA games run at around 100-200 fps, certain AAA games like space marines run at 60.
If you look at a realistic game, the % low frame times are much more closer to the average FPS, and I think CSGO is just a terrible example.
And it also depends on the frequency of the % lows, so that's why I look at the graph, the graph is better than looking at a number, since it's possible the % lows come from loading a new region, which personally I don't really care if it happens like once a minute.

I don't expect the 5070 to be that great for the extra $300~400 you'll need to pay for.

It tells you the difference, the generation and number of PCIe lanes available to each slot.
Top big slot is PCIe Gen 4.0 with 16 PCIe lanes available
Lower small slot is PCIe Gen 3.0 with 1 PCIe lane available
NVME/M.2 slot also uses PCIe lanes. These lanes will connect directly to either the CPU or the motherboard chipset
you can read a general explanation here

PCIe is the information transport standard - how many bits, in what order, how fast, synced to what clock, etc. - the shape of the physical connector is technically irrelevant. Of course in practice it's heavily standardized and everyone refers to those slots as "PCIe slots". Happens all the time with these things.

>isn't calling [...] a bit confusing
They're not called the same thing - one is x16 and one is x1. What is somewhat confusing is when you get an x16-*length* slot that's only x4 electrically but mobo manufacturers are usually pretty upfront about what's going on there.

my 2700x oc to the moon bottlenecked my 2080ti and even 390x
a horrid cpu even worse than my 1600x
>>
>>103103704
That can only happen if 9800x3d stock is good enough to not be scalped
>>
>>103103688
It could be had together with a b760m riptide Mobo with a clock gen for 200$, combined with 6400 ddr5 you have 12900k beating performance running it at 5.2ghz
Any other combo and you are pissing away perf and better off getting a 7500f or something
But you need to tune if you want 50-70% free fps

In other news

>9800x3d beating everything pretty solidly
Yep it's over, AMD jewry has won

Why does Userbenchmark not want me to get this when it has better temperatures, watts, memory latency and performance?
>>
>>103103744
As someone who likes AMD who isn't the former nor the latter (I'm an independent), false.
>>
>>103103748
ram 6000Mhz CL30 or lower (CL28 offers about 2% more perf) also EXPO certified

Yeah, this benchmark seals the deal for me.
Imagine how many Rimworld mods this could run before it dips below 900TPS.

5600 is not ideal for Ryzen 7000/9000 as it does not run infinity fabric 1:1 with the IMC

i could run like 400 beamng mods with that motherfuck

Jewfus says to buy 7800x3d if you not gonna tune
8000mhz ram and tuning Intel has lower dips in some games
We will see how 9800x3d works in his dipperino test

Decided to buy 9800x3d with a Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ICE tomorrow coming from a 5800x. Never had to worry about flashing a bios. Will all I need is a flash drive?

like 200 more watts to power up a Intel CPU is a lot for server farms.

How long will AMD support AM5? Is the 9000s series the last or are they going into the 10000s?

so 6000 oc then

yeah amdip still happens. they just made it dip upward now

intel fumbled arrowkneelake so bad they got no reason to compete so i guess we will be stuck with am5 for a while.
meanwhile intel regressing on a socket a year
>>
>>103103806
most kits do 6000mhz out of the box if they are expo certified, no manual tuning required just one button in the bios and then forget about it

Whats the fucking point for AMD of splitting their CPUs between the normal and 3D ones, just go all in the 3D ones, drop that name, and just make them standard ones.

Until Zen6 in Q3 2026, Zen7 will come out for AM6 with DDR6.
>>
>>103103828
its more complex to make and the SoIC process used to stack the cache has limited capacity
>>
So if I have a pcie3 cpu, then neither of my m2 slots support pcie4 right? Damn that's some sneaky shit.
>>
>>103103859
>Damn that's some sneaky shit.
How so? The PCIE controller is in the CPU.
>>
>>103103866
You have to actually know that though, and trust me 99% of people won't before opening the manual. Them advertising it as a pcie 4 slot is at definitely at the very least slightly deceptive.
>>
>>103103904
>definitely at the very least slightly deceptive.
It is not, B550 was designed to be paired with Zen3, if you use an older Zen2 or Zen1 CPU is your fault.
>>
>>103103927
Zen2 supports PCIE4 too, only a retard would pair a Zen1 CPU with a B550 board.
>>
>>103103944
