>>103116707Even AIOs will throttle i9s depending on the load.If you just play gaymes, a Noctua or Thermalright can cool it.Noctua advertisements say their coolers can soak up 300W power draw, but they don't mention the chip is thermally throttling at that point. You want to stay below about 150W power draw for air cooling if you want maximum advertised boost.
>>103116836but the 9800X3D doesn't get as hot with its cache on the bottom and no filler tile like the 7800X3D. Boosts better, can actually OC. You can UV/eco mode it if you wish to. I don't see any reason. IMO there is zero reason to but Gen 1 X3D over Gen 2. They improved everything.
>>103116836yes, because 9800x3d is more efficient and heat transfer to the cooler is significantly better due to the relocated cache. The few watts in power draw make basically no difference. (also you could just limit power draw by messing with PBO settings and limiting the max wattage)

>>103116870>>103116707>stay below about 150W power draw for air cooling if you want maximum advertised boostThermal throttling doesn't mean that you loose performance though if comparing CPUs. For example, if you choose a CPU with less cores and lower TDP that always reaches max frequency over a CPU that thermal throttles but has more cores and runs more efficiently in the first place, the second CPU of course will be faster despite throttling.I agree with the power limit though. If your PC should be silent ~120W is the max for a big dual tower, if noise doesn't matter you can go up to 150-180W but then we are talking about fan speeds that are at least in the mid 1000s.

I just managed to snag one on Newegg about an hour and a half ago, but it went back to being out of stock pretty much right after I placed my order and received confirmation. I only even saw it because I accidentally refreshed the page while swapping through tabs. B&H has it listed on their website (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1859346-REG/amd_100_100001084wof_ryzen_7_9800x3d_am5.html) but it's still marked as "coming soon" and hasn't been made available for purchase. You might have some luck if you opt-in to availability notifications, since it seems like they're still waiting to receive their initial stock, whereas other places have already sold most if not all of their initial units. Lastly, some Microcenters still have them in stock if you're able to do an in-store purchase, but it seems like they're going fast. >>103117183First define the "job". Then compare the options. An AIO like ALF3 of course is more effective with cooling a CPU, allowing for lower temps, higher clocks before throttling sets in. And it has a different noise pattern, it does not suddenly spin up it's fans on spikes in CPU activity unless you connect it's fans directly to CPU temp. The fan curves of an AIO can follow the temperature of the radiator that heats up rather slowly unlike the CPU or the heatsink of an air cooler. And with an AIO you have a lot more free space around the socket allowing easy access to cable headers and DIMM slots. I won't ever go back to monstrous air coolers because of this alone. If saving 30 bucks is more important to you than all these advantages you will go with an air cooler nevertheless.

What should my approach be to building a pc in the next couple of months to replace my aging GTX 1080 Nvidia PC ? all the tariff shit that's incoming has me thinking I need to make a rig that will last me another decade at least. Do I wait to grab a 50XX series card if possible? Cash in on 40xx? I haven't bought or built a PC in ages, so I haven't kept up, but my budget is anywhere between $1,500-$3000

4070 ti super now, or I just wait for the 5000 series. My cpu is a 5700X3D and I don't care about beyond 60fps stable on newer games. I just want to spend a lot so the card will last years. My psu is a 650W.

>>103117590My 4080s pulls 320w 100% load and 5700x3d pulls around 50-70 watts so take that as you will
>>103116958Raptorlake is built different and has performance scaling upwards of 0.5kw if you have the cooling for it
>>103116090lol most products that are showcased during these type of conventions almost never release, there was a silverstone 3000 watt psu showcased one time a few years ago which never released (it was supposed to be eu only or some bullshit i dont really remember), then recently there was the seasonic noctua edition psu which also never released despite it being almost a year
>>103117643So you are hinting that it is enough 650W right. I am just wondering if I should pull the trigger now or just wait the 5000 series reviews instead.
>>103117576>>103117569more recent nand controllers just brute forced performance similar to optane drives at the cost of write endurance, but even back when p4801x was just released its performance was virtually indistinguishable from top m.2 nand ssds (that cost an order of magnitude less) in any desktop and most server tasks, only recommending it for cache/journal where its endurance starts to matter.

I need some guidance on GPU brands, I haven't built since my 980ti rig a decade ago, and right now it just seems weird to pay a 100-150 USD price premium on a "good" brand when I can just go to the next tier of GPU at MSRP, albeit on a card that looks generic as hell.
