it also futureproofs your pc when you buy a 6090

So I put this third fan on my phantom spirit, it doesn't really seem to help with temps or anything but it looks kind of cool, I like massive air coolers. No problems with leaving it there right?
>>
>>103121475
also any best way to change the extra fan clips to black? I was just gonna spraypaint them with flex seal paint since I have that on hand. It makes stuff kind of rubbery but it's just for looks.
>>
>>103121475
make sure its facing the right direction
>>
>>103121486
They're all blowing towards the rear of the case, I did make sure of that. I just don't know if the middle fan might get throttled or something by the extra airflow. They're all the same fan model, same speed through a PWM hub so I am guessing it's fine.

Which one? I would have trusted seasonic more but after I learned the OEM is Helly instead of seasonic themselves I got a little spooked.
The be quiet unit also has more protections for whatever it's worth and the difference between the two is like 5$ so I rather go with the more quality choice.
Wattage is more than enough for both also, even leaving me room for a stronger GPU in the future.
Looking online I see more problems with be quiet, specifically their fan, but it's also a way more popular unit than the seasonic one so that probably evens it out.
>>
>>103121503
its pretty sad all you hear about intel on the news is how they're begging money from the government
>>

the 7600x3d exists because the 7900x3d nobody buys was torn down and turned into a 7600x3d and a 7600
>>
>>103121506
I got a be quiet. It's fine but extra cables are hard to find, like if you want custom shorter ones or low profile cables, they're out there but not as available as more common brands. Other than that it's a fine unit.

keep your case and PSU, get a 5700X3D from aliexpress
>>
>>103121575
Non modular is icky, semi modular is fine.
>>
>>103121634
That's a really old CPU and you are definitely going to see a bottleneck with the 6600xt but I am not sure how much. Theoretically it should be quite big though.
I guess you could just get the GPU for now and then see whether you are satisfied with the performance as well as how it compares to a 6600xt running something like a 12100f and then go from there. But if you want a really cheap upgrade a 12100f should be a night/day difference with it and you could get it with a motherboard for like 150$ total.
>>
>>103121667
Yeah it doesn't change temps. But it looks more beefy which I like. The extra fan was like $11 anyway. And at least if one goes bad I have it before its unobtainable.
>>
>>103121634
budget build would be something like am5, 7600, 32gb ddr5 ram, 2tb nvme ssd, Thermalright cpu cooler + some airflow focused case would be a decent base pc. PSU could be reused if you dont feel like spending a 100 on new one.
am4 would technically be cheaper but I wouldnt buy a platform thats done and dusted by now.

The gpu depends, you can watch out of used ones like 3080 or buy some 300$ 4060 new. 6800 maybe for similar perf as ps5 pro but worse upscaling than nvidia. RT is pretty useless on low end gpus anyway.
>>
>>103121681
>Non modular is icky, semi modular is fine.
Does it affect anything though or is it just a convenience thing?
>>
>>103121634
I upgraded my GPU then a year later got new mobo/ram/cpu. I got more frames in muh games but after the second upgrade It was like a whole new upgrade for the GPU to actually run at full pcie gen 4 speed, got 20-30fps more. So yeah, it's not that bad. It was an upgrade twice and just feels good to get more value out of something I already bought, even if technically I was wasting some of its potential for a year.
>>
>>103121698
Just convenience, maybe a bit of impact on airflow to have extra unused cables in your case but not really that bad, like it wouldn't stop me if I was just trying to be cheap and get a low cost PSU.
>>

I got lucky with a mid 4 figure payout on crypto shitcoin gambling, and I want to go full hog with a gaymin pc with 9800x3d and 4090, but I'm unsure what to build around those 2 core components, upper limit is £4k.

Kinda crazy how irrelevant the CPU becomes at higher resolutions. Kinda makes me want to spend a little extra on the monitor to save the hassle of having to upgrade my CPU in the future.

>>
>>103121749
I can advise on a case, unless you're going for a small PC in which case ignore this.

Phanteks Enthoo Pro, I got the older Pro model with no glass and drive bays, but if you like glass they have that option, and the version 2 has no 5.25"/3.5" slots. I put my old BD drive in there just because I'm not ready to throw it away yet, and a handy little 5.25" drawer for USB sticks and a card reader.
It's huge, has great dust filtration, great airflow, and great cable management. I have pretty much no complaints with it, my only regret is buying a shitty fractal design pop air first, because that sucked even though it looks good.
>>
>All these people going crazy over having the latest and greatest CPU
If you are spending 500$ on a CPU I know for a damn fact you retards are playing at 1440p at the bare minimum, most of you almost certainly at 4k.
Which makes the whole obsession with CPUs really bizzare. A damn i3 can run a 3080 with almost no bottleneck at that resolution.
>>
>>103121833
I actually don't game I just run heavy dev workflows and prefer a desktop over a laptop for its longer lifespan and upgradability.
And I also just like getting top of the line equipment for my builds even if I don't absolutely need it. Then I run it for 5-8 years until it feels old and slow.
>>
>>103121833
no it cannot.
>>
>>103121833
You don't play 4k, do you? With a 4090 and a 12700k I'm more often than not cpu bound, especially with dlss. It depends on the game of course, but see monster hunter wilds, my gpu was at most at 80% usage when hunting, even less when not and I could barely reach 60fps

My 4090 has been cpu bottlenecked in plenty of games at 4K since 2022. I also use DLSS so x3D has been tempting for a long time. If I get it and see no difference, I got a few buddies lined up who want it for their upcoming builds. I told them how dismayed I was over paying $500 for 8 cores and they don't even give a shit or see an issue, it's the best. AMD has 100% become the new Intel.

4 sticks is always a bad idea.

Non modular PSU are usually baseline shit with pwm.

you guys are actually retarded i think also you blindly buy whatever techjesus tells you to because you can't think for yourselves. the 9800x3d is a good upgrade if you are multiple cpu generations behind, but for anything released in the past 4 years you don't really need to unless you just want to spend money.

maybe the x870e will but you should learn to update the BIOS anyway as AMD releases optimisations + more performance through them
>>

You literally can not tell the difference and if you're using an IPS monitor, upgrading from IPS to OLED would cancel out any of that latency you think you've gained.

But whatever, I'm not trying to convince you of anything. You're just kinda dumb.

>>
>>103122084
>but frame gen on a 4090 is actually useful.
It looks fucking terrible. It doesn't matter how many FPS you get, until they figure out how to render the UI independently of the 3D graphics it will remain shit. Just flickering text and trails EVERYWHERE. It's honestly mind-bogglingly how much this undercooked technology has been shilled.

>>
>>103122751
It's planned obsolescence. Helium naturally leaks out and makes the drive break after a precisely calculated timespan which is 4-5 years. The old drives with no helium still work perfectly after 2 decades.

The US military is screwed without intel. There's no other way to procure the chips they need for pretty much all of their equipment except from economic/military rivals which would leave them terribly vulnerable to sabotage, spying, etc. Intel is effectively a branch of the US govt. Why do people outright lie?
Helium only leaks of you physically damage the drive. Almost every instance of helium related failures is overeager techs using a box cutter or knife to open ESD bags and they end up piercing the drive's seal.
On drives that haven't been molested even after 5 years the very vast majority of drives still have at or near 100% helium level.

I would go for the asrock pro rs b650m mobo because it has 1 more m.2 slot and it has coolers on the vrm. Spend $20 more for the wifi version if needed.
thermalright coolers are quiet as noctua (spit on that thang). But you could just use the stock cooler that comes with the 7600 (no it's not going to run at the same temp or as quiet, but it will not effect performance).
I personally like the Cooler Master Q300L V2 MicroATX case for matx.

With HDDs and the ambient environment being the same pressure, the leakage rate is basically nothing and is further driven down as what helium that does manage to escape creates a slightly lower pressure in the drive which creates a force that keep the helium in as other air molecules cannot enter.

Your talking timescales of many decades. An HDD is only worth using for a single decade.

B650e = x870. Not that b650 steel legend is a bad board, x870 comes with usb4.0. B650 has pcie 4.0, b650e/x870 comes with pcie 5.0.
>>
>>103123273
B650e is fine. I like the riptide because it doesn’t have that garish polar camo.
X870 is basically a refresh of the b650e BUT with guaranteed usb4 and pcie5. A number of b650e boards don’t have those but the ones you’re highlighting have the pcie5.

In the motherboard manual, there's a page w/ a block diagram that will show the various slots & note which ones are on a shared bus.
>>
>>103123684
>how does it work when there are multiple
You fill one and then add more just like any other disks.
>do you populate all of them and then in the bios select the one you want to use
You don't do that to your other disks right? If you do have them all populated, you can select the boot drive from bios.
>4x lanes and the rest to use chipset?
The primary m.2 slot would generally have x4 pcie 4.0 or 5.0. The rest of them are second class citizens, they come with shared pcie lanes with usb4.0, so if you use usb 4.0, your m.2 decreases from x4 to x2. It should all be described in the product website.

So I am upgrading from a 5800X3D. Picked up a 9800X3D from Amazon and it says delivery by January 22, how screwed am I? Anyway, I'm sure it will actually get here well before then.
I am looking to reuse my 4080 super, my sound card and nvme SSD. Might reuse my power supply too for budget constraints as it's still working well and is platinum certified EVGA.
I've got an 870 motherboard and 6000mhz 28CL RAM picked out. Looking at getting a decent case and heatsink for the CPU.
I game at 1440p ultrawide and when you factor in DLSS it's rendering at less than 1080p internally so I know I can get some good mileage out of a CPU upgrade, plus I like to stay fairly cutting edge with hardware.

The initial release of 40 was full of dogshit cards. The decent non-90 cards (4070 Ti Super, 4080 Super) were only released in January of this year, budget 40 series cards not event 18 months ago. Unless you need a 5090, there’s no reason not get one of the lesser 40 series cards, as there will be a longer wait for those and they’ll probably be gimped and overpriced when they do get released.

The cache is too small for Factorio. It's one of the games that does not benefit from the cache at least not mid-late game. The cache is good for games with a small game state that's updated 500+ times/sec like csgo but games with a large game state will use mostly ram. Simple games like LoL with a small game state are also indifferent to cache because they create a new state instance on every frame instead of updating a single game state instance because they probably use these state frames for debugging and for replay generation.

Funny how none of the reviews mention that and keep running babbys first rocket at 10x of gameplay speed.
50K map really should be the default benchmark.

My old board was a Gigabyte X570S Master for ~3 years? No problems with it.
Yesterday I picked up a X870E Pro for a new build/AM5. No problems during the build or configuring. I'm sure Gigabyte has some kind of extra software, but I've never used it. Always change things in the bios.

Might be bias though. Like if you buy into mid/high tier, regardless of manufacturer, you don't really expect it to have problems.

I used an X570 board from them and the BIOS was a buggy mess. Like if I turned on PBO at all, it was impossible to turn it off without resetting the BIOS. Also any change at all to PBO resulted in an unstable system, again only fixed by loading defaults. Clearly something was fucking busted as fuck. The board is still fine though, I have it running in another PC, just pure stock CPU settings (and memory on XMP, nothing else).

>BURN IN
I'm a hobbyist coder with around 500 hours of Visual Studio Code open, and I haven't experienced even a touch of burn-in. This includes at least 2,000 hours of browsing and gaming in HDR. Burn-in is a non-issue as long as you keep your OLED light levels below 30 for regular use. I would recommend getting a 42in LG OLED.
>>
>>103124501
Burn in is inevitable. If an OLED's pixel is on, it is burning in and eventually will burn out. Uneven burn in is accelerated by having static content on screen.

It WILL happen eventually. Anyone that says otherwise is being a retard.
>>
>>103124772
How many months in are you already? I was watching that monitors unboxed vid and in 6 months there's faint burn-in already
>OLED light levels below 30 for regular use
How impactful is brightness levels to OLED degredation anyways? I haven't seen anyone do a test with 10% brightness, it's always 100% or near it.

Oh an m2 e slot intended for wifi, the pcie lanes on it should be the same generation as the chipset itself right?
Thinking of getting an m2 key E to M converter. They are cheap as fuck anyway and as long as it's over pcie 2 it should still be faster than sata. More importantly I will be able to reuse my nvme in my next build and not be forced to buy a sata SSD just for this.
>>
>>103124793
>How many months in are you already?
1 Year and 8 months. Before that I had an LG CX with 8000 hours. No burn in as well.

Burn-in is inevitable. UNEVEN burn-in is mostly compensated by panel controller, meaning peak HDR brightness is getting uniformly reduced over time, but any short term effects get cleared out fast.
>>103124793
nta but I've been using LG TV as an only desktop monitor for 2 years, with powertoys fancyzones tiling making window borders always take same position, browser sidebar always on etc etc.
Maybe twice per year window borders start to become noticeable (on perfectly uniform gray test screen, not on color images), then I rejiggle snap borders and burn-in disappears in a few days.

I figured the core count will make up for the x3D cache, but I can't really tell from benchmarks.
