Should I buy a 9800x3d?
I'm currently on a 5900x and 10gb 3080.
Me getting a 9800x3d really hinges on how much the 5080 costs and how much ram it comes with.
It the 5080 costs more than $1000 with less than 24gb ram, then I'm skipping it, thus not wanting to get a 9800x3d. Because I feel like a 9800x3d would be wasted on a 3080. But I would rather buy a 9800x3d before Trumpiffs kick in.

For MSI shit with the M-flash whatever you have to make sure the USB you put in there has the correct and correctly capitalized file names. MSI doesn't give you any sort of guidance on this because they are Chinese and don't give a shit.
There was some improperly named file in there that I had to rename and once I did that it flashed like it said it would. It didn't matter if I had the CPU or anything else in there, I did it with everything hooked up and it worked fine.

It's Nvidia, you won't have vram issues, every single release has DLSS, which handles that for you. Anyway you might save some money on power bills that you could use for a good gpu next time. Maybe even buy a second hand 4070 Ti.
You said 1440p right? So that's the ideal.

About to pull the trigger on this. I know some parts like the PSU are overkill, but I figure it'll also legitimately last longer than everything except for the case. I absolutely need a 12 core CPU for work purposes (developer). The only parts that I'm not confident about are the mobo (lots of mixed opinions about MSI in the last few /pcbg/ threads, but the rest of the pack for the 9900X seem awful or out-of-stock) and the GPU (I'm not opposed to an XT in theory but everything I've read makes it seem not worth the savings if you can swing it, plus the Sapphire is $100 more than ASRock variant of the XTX).

Some thoughts:

>Mobo
X870 is an odd choice at $300 but if it suits your needs then go for it. Beware the Mediatek WiFi chipset - you may need to replace the M.2 card if you get dropouts.

>RAM
I'd be thinking 64GB for a software dev rig.

>SSD
Kind of overkill unless your projects are HUEG. In which case definitely get 64GB RAM.

>Card
It's fine. Personally I'd want RTX at this budget because that's the way eye candy is going but it's definitely a personal preference thing.

Everything else looks fine enough. Maybe some minor niggles/preference items but it's good in the main.
>>
>>103184866
The board is fine, the faggot that melted it on Reddit was being a fucking retard.
Tomahawk is MSI's best-selling board SKU since AM4 according to HWUnboxed's MSI contact.
One retard doesn't speak for everyone else's experience.

If you're hesitant, buy something else.
ASRock boards report the most inaccurate voltage readings btw (most overstated), MSI is in between.
ASUS & Gigabyte's higher-end boards have a dedicated IC to report the VR voltage.
ASUS boards also have the best VR & CPU AC load lines synchronization (auto sync @ factory), you will get the most accurate voltage & power readings.
The less reliable boards are reporting higher safety margin because the CPU isn't actually being fed that much voltage.

I wouldn't concern yourself too much with brandphaggotry on the board. AM5 is pretty well ironed-out now. MSI does have the longest boot times but it's hardly a dealbreaker if the board suits otherwise. My previous comments about the board being a potentially poor fit /in general/ still apply though.

>>103184984
>measured by the cpu
None of these are measured "by the cpu".
It's either through the board's superio ic that is inaccurate or a dedicated opamp circuit reporting more reliable readings to the superio chip.
Mid-range boards don't get the opamp ic, as far as I'm aware even the AM5 Taichis don't have it (excluding the XOC variant).
>>

I would be more worried about panic buying, desu. Trump says he is going to put a 10% tariff on everything, and at least a 60% tariff on stuff from China. I suspect what'll happen though is that Congress and special interest groups tells him, "No." or rather, he can do that, but only for specific things. Every tech company in the US would fucking piss blood overnight if their projected costs for their new data centers and distributed compute networks ballooned by 60-100%. There's functionally zero chance that they don't set up a white list of some kind concerning types of businesses/goods that are subject to the full tariffs. The other thing is that even if they aren't subject to the tariffs, they're going to price gouge. That's just what they do. You can't name a time in history when a corporation hasn't seen an opportunity to arbitrarily raise its prices and not do that very thing. Finally, the tariffs won't go into effect until the middle of next year given the amount of work that is likely to go into figuring out what gets tariffed at what percent, or who is subject and who isn't. Regardless, you might be smart to buy now because scalpers are bad already, and if they smell blood in the water then they'll probably bring us screaming back to the cryptocraze in terms of prices and lack of stock, but for everything.

Stop recommending the Nova. It's a good board, but it's simply not in stock. He can source everything in that build right now, but no one knows when Nova's will be back in stock. I am not trying to be shitty, it's just that the Nova is the most sought after X870E motherboard at the moment given its price and feature set, so the likelihood of getting one is pretty low. I looked on eBay a few days back and could only find one guy selling one for 700 dollars AND it was open box.

Crucial is Micron's house brand and currently Micron makes the worst DDR5 ICs. You won't even see them if you filter by 6000C30 because none can hit that performance level. They have been known to buy Samsung/Hynix ICs in the past if demand is high enough but I haven't seen any such cases on DDR5.
Crucial SSDs are a different story. While they all use Micron NAND, which is fine btw, they frequently purchase 3rd party controllers (Phison, SMI, Marvell, etc.). Basically the same business model as most SSD "manufacturers".

>>
>>103185295
I was saying more that they're the same as nearly every other manufacturer i.e. they buy commodity components and package them in different combinations to hit price/performance targets.
For example the Crucial P3+ uses a Phison E21T controller and 176L Micron QLC NAND which is basically the same setup as the Corsair MP600 Core XT or PNY CS2142 (among others no doubt).
The current exceptions are the P5 and P5+ which use in-house Micron controllers. However, they perform pretty similarly to other "top spec" PCIe 4 drives so it's not an issue either way.

>Is their performance tied to hardware or they require drivers...
Not really. A lot of manufacturers offer some sort of "optimization" feature in their software but it rarely does anything impactful. As I understand it the Samsung/WD stuff on Linux was more about fixing a bug than "unlocking" performance. Shit happens.
In any case, you're not in the market for max performance so you'd be price-shopping anyway. Do be advised that most of Crucial's "budget" drives use QLC NAND which is not recommended for a boot drive. Fine for a secondary though.
>>
>>103185371
The tariffs will go through, it just depends on what they affect and how. A blanket 60-100% tariff on all Chinese goods just isn't happening. Every single corporation in America would riot, and put forth efforts to remove any and all congressmen and senators who are up for reelection during the midterms and replace them with someone amenable to seeing that shit taken back.

This is probably a dumb question, but should the 6700 XT be good for (1080p if need be) gaming for a couple of more years? Reason I'm asking is because I current have the following
>6700 XT (founders edition)
>R5 3600
>16gb ram
So far I've not run into any problems running things at a good level. I was considering getting myself a christmas present and changing the 3600 for a 5700X3D and the 2x8gb ram for 2x16gb, and using this setup for a couple of years longer. But the recommended harware for Stalker 2 that came out recently is looking pretty rough, and I'm getting spooked that developers are going to just completely neglect optimization and require DLSS in the near future.
My system is about 4,5 years old by now (3 for the gpu), so I'm torn between keeping this going for a while more or biting the bullet and getting a new system from scratch. I suppose I could always switch out the gpu as well later down the line, but maybe by then newer gpu's won't work on my b450 board?
I'm not really up to date with hardware stuff, so maybe I'm getting concerned over nothing.

Don't expect the RTX 5080 to have more than 16GB of VRAM.
RTX 50s hardware is a mid-console generation release, NVIDIA's sticking with the lowest possible VRAM configuration for this console cycle.

I can see that, it's certainly huge. I have pretty big hands, but it's on the edge of being too big for me as well. I think it just has to do with the way I hold my mice that it doesn't bother me, I hold them slightly sideways, only resting my fingertips on the buttons and the part of my palm underneat my knuckles on the body.
We use much smaller basic bitch office mice at work and those are fine too for me.

USB hub no. USBC dp? This I don't understand. You want usbc on the monitor? What is the problem with using dp to usb-c like a normal person? DP goes into monitor and usb-c goes into laptop.

This one does not do power delivery. This is a basic bitch monitor. The rest of the monitor is an afterthought around the panel.

>>103186692
For 600bux, you have to get creative.
The prices seem a bit high, the PSU for example. You would be able to get corsair rm850x for 150bux. Check other shops / vendors. At 600bux budget, here is what I'd do. Try to get everything used. If that can't happen, do this:
- Used workstation dell or any other, that can support / power a GPU. 8th gen shintel or above will be plenty.
- Get a Nice monitor for 250bux.
- Spend the rest on GPU.

Other option:
- Used workstation without good psu, but with a pcie slot
- external psu
- external gpu
- riser cable
- new/used monitor.
>>
>>103186816
>the msis are good priced in the us, completely horrendous eu

Yeah, I believe it. Some Germ was trying to find a monitor in one of the threads a day or two ago and it was like 2k euro for something that cost half as much over here.

you can get a MSI B550 PRO VDH wifi for 89.99 which is much better but I don't know if the price is the same in Mexico. I'd echo the other anon and get a 5600 instead. For that price and even lower (59.99) you can get a 1tb drive instead and the monitor is very good is the one that I have. No issues with it so far you can be sure with that choice.

now the video card unless you plan on doing AI stuff you should get a 6600 or 6650. I have a 6650 and it handles every game I throw at it on 1080p so far

the absolute score doesn't matter (it depends a lot on memory timings, cooling, OS optimizations, etc)
what matters is that he TOLD YOU he was testing the 9800X3D with a 6400C30 max tune, when in reality he was running that shit stock with EXPO disabled to make AMD look bad

there will be even better zen5 gaming CPUs in the coming months. and there's gonna be zen6 which can be assumed to be the final am5 generation. you'll be likely to get 9800x3d's performance out of next gen's low to mid end. at any pace it's not worth replacing a zen4 with its zen5 successor because the performance increases are decidedly marginal.

First of all, FSR doesn't use trained data or AI hardware-accelerated upscaling techniques.
There's nothing to copy over, dumb ass.
Second, game developers are the ones licensing FSR feature compatibility, not console manufacturers.
That PSSR patent is filed by Sony and credited to Mark Cerny, it's not a random PlayStation Studio dev group adding FSR in their games.
