QD-OLED is superior to WOLED, the latter tends to be more expensive due to LG (panel manufacturer of all WOLEDs) being more stingy with pricing compared to Samsung (panel manufacturer of all QD-OLEDs).
If you have to pick one, get a glossy QD-OLED and don't look back, both 4k and 1440p options are great.

Why does HDMI VRR behave totally differently on 10bit vs 12bit color?
On 10bit it's rapidly jumping in 115-118hz range on desktop and sometimes 48hz sometimes 72hz when playing videos.
On 12bit it's solid 122hz on desktop and floating at 119-121hz when playing videos.
12bit is using DSC but since the panel is 10bit anyway it should be indistinguishable from native 10bit, right?

im going to run the 7900xtx with a 7700x because the 9800x3d is not in stock and only the 7700x was on a bundle discount anyways

thats why im going to buy a 4K screen so help minimize the bottleneck a bit, though i understand in some scenarios even in 4K a 9800X3D can give a huge boost. It'd cost me the equivalent of US$350 to step up from the 7700x to the 9800X3D though

A Super Flower. The cables are insanely stiff, and laughably long. The shortest cable, I shit you not, was the 24-pin. The SATA cables were each at least two feet long, the CPU cables required me twisting them around backwards to actually plug them in (keep in mind these fuckers are sincerely the stiffest things ever). This is a fucking dual chamber case and literally 90% of the available space is occupied by the cables from the PSU. The worst part is I haven't even plugged in the VGA cables, and don't think I could without taking off the rear cover for the case. This shit is absurd. I am going to take all the cables out and start from square one tomorrow and see what I can do until the replacement cables from Cablemod show up in a week or so.

I want to build a tiny ITX computer for my tiny wife. Any ITX Case and Build recommendations? Thinking about a $1000 to $1500 budget, minus monitor or nvme ssd. She borrows my gaming laptop, but now she wants her own computer to personalize, do arts, and music-making on. Would also be good if it can do 720p recording with gaming or can comfortably do gaming at 120-144fps at medium/low graphics because she gets easy motion sickness. ITX for versatility of upgrading, but ease of moving around, and minimal aesthetics leaving more space in her area for her arting. Fractal Design Terra may be good for upgrading, but I wanted her to have a pretty small case. The idea of having her backpack around a little cyberdeck makes me smug. And 4060 TI or 4070? Would having more VRAM benefit OBS and other graphics programs running at the same time? Also just tempted by the 16GB Vram for a 2nd computer to use with AI. Looking at having the unit run Reaper, OBS, Photoshop, Blender, & gayming.

>>103308190
the 5700X3D will be miles better than the 8400, the funny thing is if you bought Ryzen when you built it would be drop in but its not going to cost much to buy a cheapy AM4 motherboard and a 5700X3D and use your existing ram.
Stellaris results are probably Interchangible for CK3 and the 7800X3D and 9800X3D are leaps ahead of the 5700X3D but that doesn't mean it is bad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-lFgbzU3LY&start=540
the R7 2700 is probably the closest thing to your CPU and the 5700X3D halves the simulation time compared to it, the 9800X3D almost quarters the simulation time.

this is called spread spectrum, you are running at 3200C18
the frequency fluctuates by a few % to reduce electromagnetic interference
there's no real harm in enabling or disabling this but any overclock right on the edge will be more stable with SS off

How much more expensive is a am5 motherboard than a am4? I just want to play the game stat to finish without major lag. If it only costs ~$300 more I think I could do that. Especially with the prospect of future updates.

Also I only have 8g of ram, it's barely enough for minecraft and a video in the background. I definitely want more.

The cables aren't actually that thick. Hilariously, the 12VHPWR cables aren't covered in molex and shit and are you typical very cheap looking black rubber cables, so they're very thin. They just look awful. All of my other cables are insulated beyond belief, and stupid long. Those two things don't mix well. I will actually take a picture of my bay to show you what I mean.

Welcome to the rat's nest. Look at how cramped the area where you plug into the PSU is. This is largely because the fucking cables are thick as fuck, and inflexible. I can do better than this, but I didn't bother (see: didn't remove the drive bays) because I realized I would need to fit the VGA cables and couldn't be bothered spending my evening doing that when I could spend it on making sure my parts weren't defective, downloading Windows, starting to do burn in tests, etc. Either way, we both know Cablemod makes high quality stuff without this kind of annoyance.

How does the 4070 Ti SUPER compare to the 4080 Super? Is it worth paying $500 AUD more ($260 USD) for the 4080 Super? Specifically with productivity in mind.

Also is now the right time to wait/hodl? I know the next generation of GPUs is soon, will that bring prices for Ada cards down?

Also, the new generation will be ATX3.1 compliant right? Does that mean the new GPUs won't support ATX 3.0 PSUs without an adapter cable?

Even the US government is wary of bailing them out.
>One option is a merger, led by the private sector but possibly encouraged by the government, of Intel’s chip-design business with a rival like AMD or Marvell, the people said.
>There’s little appetite for a 2008-style bailout, in which the government took direct stakes in automakers and banks, because policymakers are worried about losing money given Intel’s continued sales declines.

You'll be relying on DLSS for most of the newer games @ 4K.

DLSS 4K quality is upscaling from 1440p internal resolution.

What do you guys think of this build? I want to upgrade my computer and future proof it for a bit since I have no idea whats going to happen to the price of computer parts once the tariffs hit. I want to keep my budget around $1000 but its flexible. Technically I'm upgrading from a 6700xt but I'm going to be selling that to a friend and I want a card that can do blender and make ai smut. Aside from that I'm aiming for 1440p 140 fps gaming.

Is the CPU i choose a good choice? I honestly just chose it based off of OP. I was looking at the 9800x3D(with a different MB) and I dont mind waiting for it to restock, I just dont know if it would be super overkill or not.

The power supply is something I already own, but would you guys recommend a stronger one?

Im kind of torn on the 4070 ti super. I like that it has 16gb of vram, but man thats already more than double the price of everything else and the cheap bastard in me feels really bad about buying that. I didnt like that the 3060 was already weaker than my 6700xt and the 3070 ti looked good but that 8gb of vram is depressing. Is there any hope of these cards decreasing in price even a little? Is this the best im going to get in terms of nvidia cards that arnt literally $1000

This is my first time buying computer parts during the holidays, is it worth it to see what cyber Monday offers or is this generally the best its going to get?

What was your previous monitor? I also have a 1440p QD-OLED and despite people complaining about text fringing, it's probably the only OLED issue that doesn't affect me at all.
>Between a 2k or 4k IPS which would be better?
I'd go 2k because I'm a framerate addict and I can't really tell the difference between DLSS Performance at 4k and DLSS Quality at 1440p.
There are great 1440p IPS for $150-200 that will do you just fine.
If your budget allows you could also try a 4k QD-OLED, according to users the higher PPI makes text fringing a lot less noticable.

On the other end of the spectrum I was reminded of this upcoming case I saw a press release for a few days ago:
https://www.techpowerup.com/329109/gamemax-introduces-titan-silent-2-chassis
>8 x 3.5" HDD Bays (tool-less)
>3x 5.25" Bays
>USB3 Type C Gen 2 Port
>3x120mm preinstalled fan (supports up to 7)
>Solid sound-dampened side panels
>$80 MSRP
Seems like the perfect antithesis of modern garbage fishtanks that don't actually have room to install anything of substance anymore except for mandatory RGB. Hope to see reviews on it when it launches.

Going insane with this problem I've been having, I hope someone can help a retard out.
>PC started restarting randomly (95% of the time during light loads), nothing in event logs, even happened in BIOS
>Sometimes I can use it fine for many hours, during this time I've also ran extensive stress tests and it passed them all
>Tried every BIOS setting combination imaginable (on multiple versions), including disabling every overclock/boost and overvolting everything
>Tried swapping memory kits
>Tried removing drives
>Tried testing the PSU (rock solid, barely a .025V delta on any rail)
>Tried pushing on various cables and connectors and rocking the case while the computer's running
>Tried opening up and repasting/repadding the GPU (didn't help but temps went down by like 10C so that's nice)
It doesn't fucking make sense that the CPU or Motherboard would be bad if they can handle every stress test, I even tried enabling PBO and maxing out all the values just for the fuck of it, it's absolutely fine when it's not restarting (fine as in wasting almost double the power for a 5% performance uplift, who came up with this shit?). I'm considering just tearing it all down and rebuilding the machine but I live in a matchbox so that's gonna be a nightmare, and even if this somehow fixes it I'll be left clueless as to why. Any suggestions?

this would be not bad, but if AMD wants mind share they need to sacrifice margins for a whole generation. They can drop whole line $100 down and gain ryzen approval if it works.

True, and I still have and use my old Define R4 but since then they've really let their Define series languish. The model in >>103310150 is QD-OLED so Samsung not LG. They may beat them to market with a 4K 27" OLED monitor next year but if LG pull out a true RGB-subpixel panel it still might be worth waiting on. I wonder if this development isn't related to Samsung being a client of that new MAX OLED breakthrough that just came to light.
https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/applied-materials-max-oled-screens-touted-to-offer-5x-lifespan-tech-claimed-to-produce-brighter-and-higher-resolution-screens-too
>The core advancement is said to lie in transitioning OLED production from Gen 6 to Gen 8 glass substrates. This shift allows manufacturers to produce larger and more cost-effective OLED panels as Gen 8 substrates provide higher yield efficiency, reducing costs by optimizing the number of displays produced per sheet of glass. This scalability directly addresses the growing demand for larger and more versatile screens, especially in consumer electronics like tablets and laptops.

>MAX OLED technology also promises significant improvements in display performance. Panels produced using this system are said to achieve up to 3x brighter screens, offer 2.5x higher resolution, and enjoy a 5x longer lifespan compared to traditional OLED displays. Additionally, these advancements are achieved with 30% lower power consumption, making the technology more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

>The platform integrates new materials and precision engineering processes to overcome historical challenges in OLED manufacturing, such as uniformity and material waste. Its unique co-evaporation process enhances material deposition accuracy, while proprietary tools streamline production workflows. By improving material utilization, MAX OLED not only reduces costs but also minimizes environmental impact.

>Leading display manufacturers, including Samsung Display, Visionox, and Japan Display, are adopting this new system
LG was conspicuously absent from the announcement

I can't really be 100% sure but I tested it with a multimeter and I also monitored the voltages and its temp while the system was at full load. I don't see how it could be the PSU if I can boot once, get a restart in 5 minutes at idle, then not get another one while at full draw for hours (or vice versa). I could RMA it but I can't work without my PC and I'd have to waste money on another unit (that I'll end up not needing).

multimeter wouldn't show you udner load behaviour

>>
>>103310360
voltages could all be okay and your PSU could still be broken and you'd only find that out with a proper tester that tests for ripple and the timings.
easiest way would be to borrow a PSU and if the behavior still occurs then it might be the motherboard but then again it might be something else random in your system, its one of those kinds of problems that needs basically one of everything to isolate one by one and repeat the issue.
>>
>>103310396
Power in my area isn't great but I'm on the overvoltage side of things and PSUs are supposed to handle that pretty well (as opposed to brownouts). Fuck me, I guess I didn't try another wall outlet but my previous system had a higher power draw with a shittier PSU and I never had issues.

unfortunately proper ones are like $600
the cheap $10 ones let you know if there are any voltage issues and the PSU self check response time/power good time which should be under 500ms but it doesn't tell you anything else.

if you don't have access to another PSU then you could always buy one and return it if the behavior remains.
what country are you in? maybe you could meet up with a /opg/ anon who wouldn't mind mixing and matching some parts to see if you could find the issue definitively.

Should be the default unless the 9700X is only trivially more expensive.

>8700F
An odd choice but its lack of demand might make the price attractive in your region. Do remember that these GPU-less APUs are architecturally different to the mainline CPUs which sometimes impacts performance significantly. Mostly in gaming, to be fair, but it'd be wise to check benchmarks on her production software as well.

>7600/X/7500F
Also an option if budget is tight. Like you said most students do this shit on laptops and compute time shouldn't be a big issue.

its about €2000 but local prices are a bit different. I could fit a 7900X with a 4060ti 16gb but that would leave her with not enough budget for a new monitor, I feel like a 7700x would be a better fit for that reason.

I mention the 8700F because its like €250 while a 7700X runs for €350, but the 7700X fits the within the budget better so I might go with that one.

I never actually considered before that SSDs might have an issue with overheating. But a quick google search gave me a reddit thread, where people complain about it. Although, supposedly firmware update helps with that too.

There are Gen4 and Gen5 SSDs. Gen5 has no real use case at the moment, you likely won't see the difference in speeds in daily usage. And even if you buy a Gen5 SSD without adding a proper heatsink to it it throttles to Gen4 speeds, so everyone just uses Gen4.

For fellow poor people trying to buy an OLED, just wait for 2-3 years for NanoLED (QDEL). It's basically just Quantum Dot w/o the Blue OLED and there are already diverse prototypes available from Sharp, TCL, Samsung, etc. and they don't even need to build new factories for these, they can just reuse the LCD pipeline and don't even need vacuum shit like OLED (which drives the price up). Because of how easy it is to manufacture, the first products for tech (monitors, laptops, phones) will be available in 2-3 years!

I got 2x20TB HDDs for torrents and backups in my case so I don't need an extra NAS. If some part of the HDD cages can be removed to make room for a large GPU that case is almost perfect. It even allows a 360 AIO in top.

No but (assuming 6GT/s) CL30 is guaranteed Hynix which is generally easier to stabilize. Less chance of XMP not working. If you're buying a bundle then C36 is fine. If you're buying separate then it's usually better to pay the $9 for C30. Or, to put it another way, if that increase is breaking the budget you can't afford DDR5 in the first place.

>>
>>103311667
That largely falls under the "fit together" part too.
>>103311676
Those are just brands. You can mix and match their CPU/GPU. You should look at the motherboard chipset, if it supports the CPU etc. Sometimes the older ones would need a BIOS update or special patch to support a newer CPU which technically fits the socket.
The GPU might use a newer PCIe version than the motherboard has, but there should be backwards compatibility.
You should also have a PSU that has enough output for your build. If you want to utilize overclock features of your hardware (provided they have any), they'll eat up more power than the standard. And so on.
But for new(ish) hardware you should be able to find reliable information about all that stuff with just a quick google search. Like, type in any two of the parts you have and add "compatible?" to the search query.
But, again, as I said, that should really be done before you order parts, not at the moment of assembly. During assembly you can just as well do some "how to" search on youtube for a guide on how to fit your hardware parts together.
>>
Considering on building a PC, maybe 500-600$ tops.
200 for an used 1070/1080, 200 for the CPU, the rest for case, motherboard, ram, and fans. Is it doable? Which part can you safely cheap out?

QD only wins if you basically invest yourself in the fact it's an OLED and accept less bright highlights and needing a dark room.
WOLED has better HDR and doesn't need a dark room but sacrifices some color saturation. WOLED is also more mature.

Yes, I could use my legacy drives of 4TB and 8TB capacity. But I was rather contemplating to use the 5.25" bays for my ICY DOCK HDD cage that I already have but doesn't fit in my super duper Silent Base 802. It requires exactly the space of 3x5.25" bays, comes with a 120mm fan in the front door and allows "hot swapping" of drives or just powering on/off single drives as needed, a feature I always missed:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1204039-REG/icy_dock_mb074sp_1b_black_vortex_4_bay_3_5.html

And the mesh front version of that case would be mandatory for me, just without a glass panel, please. I thought it was possible to remove/switch the solid front panel of the other case for a mesh panel but the manual from the manufacturer suggests it's not:
