Looking at the dirt cheap iPod shuffle clones. Anyone know what battery they use? Wondering if I can take a battery meant for a sansa clip or similar, small mp3 player to put in this without needing a new shell. I doubt the battery's any good. I already listen to 64kbps or 128kbps mp3 files. I just care about being able to hear someone's voice clearly and not so much quality. Anyone have experience opening or modding one of these?
>>
>>107219500
So I found a disassembly video of this model mp3 player and the internal battery measures roughly 18x18mm compared to the microSD card slot. I averaged the width of a few microSD card slots listed on digikey which is roughly 14mm then compared the card slot to the battery. A sansa clip battery measures 37.2 x 29.5mm. That one definitely won't fit but would there be another, decent battery you could shove in this without having to change the shell?

Just installed 500 Mesh filters on my Doscincos. Pic you see on the left is the EQ I used prior to installing these. With this EQ it sounded OK, but still harsh. It was like there was still some really sharp peaks. Now with the filters on (was super easy to attach, basically like putting on a sticker), I removed the first EQ filter of -5db at 5k, and they sound pretty damn SMOOTH.

Only been 5 minutes, so its to early to tell, but this may have been a much better solution than using EQ.

Filters on pic:
>5000 Hz: -5db, 1Q
>7700 Hz: -2db, 4Q
>10000 HZ: -3db, 4Q

I'm exciting now. Going to try this on my KZ Prx as well.

My experiment with the Ziigaat Doscinco failed. I thought the mesh filters (500 strength) helped at first, and they do, but not enough. Even with strong EQ (High shelf from 5000 at -10db) is not enough to remove the ringing.

Today I received acoustic foam as well, and was about to install it, but I discovered that the existing grill/filters on the Doscinco is glued onto the nozzle. So unfortunately, all I can do now is give it away.

Or could someone give me something I can try as a last ditch effort?

Even though it's dark/warm sounding with mesh filter + strong EQ at the moment, it has this weird effect where a certain sound will produce an "echo", and just grow louder and louder. Is this what they call a "resonance"? Imagine you're shouting inside a basement, but instead of a regular echo that is quieter than your own voice, the echo just goes on and on, and becomes louder and louder, growing WAY louder than your own voice. That's pretty much what's happening when I'm listening with this.

like bigger DD giving better bass extension, but having a slower transient response compared to a smaller DD. BAs are ASS for BASS. that's all you need to know about that.
>Is there a list of the best IEM for each performance factor?
no and it probably can't exist because not everything is guaranteed. low thd doesn't always mean good soundstage or imaging, a nice csd plot doesn't always guarantee good timbre. fast transients doesn't guarantee sub bass extension, etc.
>>
Aful Explorer vs Juzear Defiant?
>>
Lol. Some guy on Head-Fi bought the new Sound Rhyme SR5s and gave it 5/5 in his review. But, he also said he didn't think it was worth twice as much as the ISN H20 (which apparently it sounds similar to). The result? Penon has blacklisted him from ever purchasing from them again.

What the fuck are those people doing?

Also they've never said they own Sound Rhyme. They've even denied owning/manufacturing TSMR. This points to something different though.

Aful Explorer has better build quality, is vented (unlike the Defiant), and doesn't have ear raping treble energy.

You're all wrong. The best is when there's synergy between drivers that do what they're the best at. Think beryllium DD for rumbly, tightly controlled bass, ED BA for smooth and natural mids and RAD BA for airy, sparkly and extended highs. Nah first gen pros and 2nd gen regular AirPods. The regular AirPods just sound way more clear and the pros have actual bass that doesn’t sound muddy while still being able to reproduce the higher frequencies well unlike the KZ’s. Don’t take my input too seriously, though, I’m no hardcore audiophile. I eq’d the KZ’s and they do sound better, but I have to change them for each song and the AirPods just sound generally good for everything.

if you think they have a muddy bass it's pretty easy to fix.
>>

Zoom in with phone camera to try and see any wax. Alcohol does almost nothing most of the time, you need to pick the wax out with a needle.

Not that guy, but is that how you clean them? I;m worried I'm just pushing the wax inside if I do that.

My Pure arrived today, I remember there was some discussion about 2m cables recently. I think the cheap KBEAR cables with a small protrusion should work just fine.

I love the sound so far, for now I'm using stock tips, but I've got Tri Clarions and Dunu S&S lined up for when I feel like tip rolling.

For the most bang for your buck, look for models like the KEF Q150 or ELAC B6.2 when they are on sale.

it depends on the size of your room and how far away from the speakers you will sit. Do not buy speakers that are too big, that kills the sound.

navy and gold work primarily because of the textural difference between both, and only works in specific ratios
if you use that cable with the explorer, the combination will end up looking gaudy
