R8 the poorfag build I have in mind:>Optiplex 9010 MT as base>500W PSU>RX 480 8GB>16 GB RAM that comes with the OptiplexThe CPU in the Optiplex is an i5-3570, but it looks like I can swap it out with a Xeon E3-1280 v2 I have on hand; the sockets are the same, I think. The only concerns I have are whether the GPU will fit, both in the case (not considering removing the drive bracket), and on account of the motherboard's layout (the RAM slots end up making contact with the GPU backplate in some builds I've seen).
>>107594172I should mention that I've already got the PSU and GPU (I'm the retard from one of the previous threads who didn't bother checking if the GPU would fit my mb). I'm interested in that particular model of Optiplex for its Libreboot compatibility. Although the Xeon is (presumably) compatible with the Optiplex mb, I don't know if the CPU fan it comes with will accommodate it, since in the PC I've got it in at the moment, it's got a heatsink and fan directing air towards it with a plastic cover. There might be issues with overheating.
>>107594172Most rx 480s should fit but you are going to be pretty close to the drive cageCooling requirements of sandy bridge isn't crazy or anything, just about anything will do it.

Upgraded an old pc from a DDR3 8gb 4core AMD to a used 10th i5 6core + 32gb ram.Now I'm eyeing a 3060 12gb because all other cards are shit 8gb overpriced bs.If I get a good deal on the 3060 mi total for the base (mb cpu ram gpu) upgrade will be under $400.Does /g/ aprove?
>>107594318It's a reference model; picrel.
>>107594421That low end the 8gb vs 12gb isn't going to be that big of a deal, you're better off just lowering texture or shadow settings or something in the 3 games that can rape 8gb at 1080p, and then going too far into the future none of the gpus at the price point are necessarily "future-proofed" at allIf you have the psu for it consider a 2080ti or a 3070.
>>107594427>>107594172Max length for a gpu without removing the drive bracket is like 165mm
>>107594427https://www.reddit.com/r/lowendgaming/comments/gyer2p/optiplex_7010_mt_max_video_card_length/
>>107594475The VRAM is mostly for light AI sloppa, since I play mostly older games that have no problem at all with a 3060.My first option was a used 1070 for about $80-100 but there's no good deals at that price. And the card itself its too old for my usecase. Then I bumped the budget to $200-250 that could get me either a 3060 12gb or a 8gb 3070Also eyed the 5060 8gb but again, VRAM, and the price new is $380, at that point I'm no longer doing a budget upgrade. Not to mention the pcie 5.0 8x of the 5060 would have to fit in a pcie 3.0 16x
>>107594547It's ~240mm; I'll have to remove the bracket. I was hoping for easy drive installation. I should've gone with an RX 580 8GB instead. I got it relatively cheap, so I guess I can't complain. Mine doesn't have an analog output unfortunately. >>107594556All Optiplexes have the same dimensions? There's a 9020 in my area as well, which is libreboot compatible too, so I think I'll go with that instead, barring complications with libreboot not found on the other model.
>>107594579maybe try looking at a 7800xt instead? they do AI aswell, on an open source platform, but Linux OS is recommended, so only for the true time-wasters.
>>107593963maybe it is pretensioned to minimize wibrations
>>107595777That's a $600+ card anon. I'm not trying to build a high end up to date pc, i'm keeping a 2010s pc alive by upgrading it to 2020s
>>107595851Way back when the 10 series cards released I was a broke teen and desperately wanted to upgrade my PC. I found a for parts EVGA GTX 780 Ti for $15 at a flea market. I decided to try my luck and mailed it into EVGA to try and warranty the card. I thought for sure they’d send it back unfixed because I didn’t have proof of purchase and it was several years old at that point. To my surprise they replaced the card and sent it back to me. I was an EVGA fanboy ever since. Really sad they exited the GPU scene. I’ve got my EVGA 3090 going strong, I plan on keeping it until it dies.
The amount of people who don't seem to realize this is it, the last chance to buy cheaper pc parts, is staggering.

This is our last thread.https://www.club386.com/motherboard-sales-reportedly-collapsing-amid-rising-dram-prices/>According to a report by Gazlog, the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI are reporting a decrease in motherboard sales in the region of 40-50% compared to the same period in 2024. Considering we’re in the run-up to the holidays, with events like Black Friday typically driving up consumer purchasing, it’s safe to presume this drop represents a substantial number of units.

>>107596166Coil whine appears to be dice roll as well, but I don't think its as prevalent as the message boards make it seem. Selection bias or whatever. For current gen, Gigabyte is the only AIB partner that I know of with actual problems like you mentioned. I Didn't know about PNY.I've been told they all have bad customer service but my one experience trying to RMA a GPU was with MSI. I was getting some fan rattle at/near full PWM with my 4080 Ventus. Maybe within 24 hours of submitting a ticket, they sent me instructions to send it in for RMA. During that time I switched it from vertical to standard PCIE mount and hoped that would be easier on the bearings. It worked out, and I never sent my card in. So I'm not sure how smooth the RMA process would've gone, and I suppose maybe MSI uses cheap bearings in their "entry" level SKUs? That's all the info I can give.

>>107599044>less than the price of the prebuilt I was going to get when I originally asked.Don't skimp on your CPU cooler. You can get a $30-$50 air cooler that will run circles around the Hyper 212 (from Thermalright, Scythe, ID-Cooling, etc). The mobo bundle is what's really saving your shekels here, and you're getting a nicer mobo in the process, but otherwise the price isn't that different than the prebuilt. Could probably shave a few dollars off the PSU and get something substantially quieter: the A850GL's fan /starts/ at 25-30 decibels, from the second it spins up. From MSI, the A850GLS is more efficient and doesn't hit 25dB until you've got 600W+ of load on it while also being $20 cheaper. You can get (close to) peak Gold/Platinum 850W performance in efficiency and noise from the be quiet! Pure Power 13 M for $10 less than that A850GL. If you're leaning towards a more established name like Corsair (Corsair, MSI and be quiet! all use the same OEM for their higher-end 850W PSUs) then the RM850X is the same price as the A850GL and is significantly quieter, while the 850e (different OEM than the RM850X) performs about the same as the A850GL but is quieter and is $10 cheaper. Will it make a huge difference in the long run? Maybe not, but if you're dead set on affordability above all, being able to cut the price by $10-$20 while getting better performance is a win-win.All in all, you're spending only a little bit less than the prebuilt for a better mobo and power supply, but also needing to pick up case fans (pretty cheap if you're going with Arctics) and having to put it all together yourself. It's a bit of a wash, but if you're into the building aspect itself, it's worth it to buy the parts yourself.

>>107600137AMD 9070XT is great if you were going to buy anything at the 5070/5070Ti/5080 tier etc.. but the 5090 is clearly a bit different and the only NV card worthwhile in my experience - the 90 card has been the case pretty much going back to the 3000 series as the only one that is worth going NV as there isn't a decent AMD competitor, but you'll pay out the ass. That said, there are still plenty of 3090 (which admittedly have better power designs than the later cards, sadly), but not all 4090 or 5090 are created equally - depending on the AIB, if nothing else it seems the Asus ROG Astral and Matrix are the ones with the biggest changes in the design possible as well as per-pin monitoring so you can see if things start to go to hell on certain wires or connectors etc, so its got the best chance by far.
>>107600320No it's an inherently flawed design because it's drawing a retarded amount of power through one connector with no load balancing to make sure none of the pins get overloaded. Even a little dust in any of the connections and it will cause the other wires to carry more power then they are rated for. Anyone that tries to tell you this shit is fake works for Nvidia, is Indian, or most likely both. Look up the buildzoid video about this shit.
>>107600344even a scrub like me knows that sending a lot of dc voltage and current trough a small wire and connector is stupid.
>>107600317But why would you want this? I don't mind tearing. Is it a meme technology for controllerfags who can't feel input lag or something?
>>107600344from general usage or constant heavy load?
>>107600320It's legit but I doubt the majority of cases are user error, I'd wager it's usually because of insufficiently tight tollerances, subpar materials and bad QC.
>>107600366some people notice judder and tearing much more than others (this happens with v-sync and vrr off when the monitor runs at a higher refresh rate than the game or at a lower refresh rate then the game, though it’s less noticeable on high-refresh, low-latency monitors). v-sync itself is problematic because you must constantly hit the frame rate of the monitor. otherwise, you experience input lag and stuttering because the monitor repeats the same frame twice in a row. ideally, you want v-sync and vrr on at the same time because vrr can still allow tearing near the refresh rate ceiling. using both together allows for lower latency than using v-sync alone. uncapped frame rates are still the best for latency, but many people dislike the tearing and judder that happens when the fps falls below the monitor's refresh rate. it's best for story games and can be turned off per game i think but it shouldn't add latency if you have more fps then the monitor has hz like in cs2 or smth.
>>107600320It's simple bad design because of no safety margin but models with preventative measures like pin monitoring or dual 12vhpwr connectors are fine

These 3 look like they have some benefits to that end >Sliger CX4713 ($475)10 drive hotswap front loading + a couple of 5.25" bays that can be configured as you wish, though not sure about the backplane they're using specifically. Made in the USA, good company overall, no rivets etc. Only 4U high, but can handle a decent 360mm liquid cooler due to layout, also is shown fitting what look like 4090 FEs so it can handle GPUs. Relatively inexpensive surprisingly. >45 Homelab HL15 Beast ($1580)5U height I think, 15 3.5" HDD + 8 2.5" SATA SSD slots, all top loading. Doesn't look like there's a lot of room for CPU water cooling , will need a tower cooler but it can handle a good one from the looks of it.. Made in the USA, but very expensive... I'm kinda wondering if it has a different for of backplane or something to justify this? Or is it something else. Not sure why its SO much more expensive than the Sliger >Silverstone RM61-312 ($900)6U height, NAS variant of the RM600. Has 12 hotswap front loading 3.5" HDDs, plus 4 2.5" SSD cage. Tons of cooling room, can hold up to 3x 360mm radiators I think. Not made in the US, probably Taiwan or whatever overseas stuff. Price is high in part because there are hardly any other 6U cases like this; I'd feel better paying extra if it was made in the US at least, but eh.. everything's a tradeoff.

>>107601250AMD sponsors everything gaming he does he just bought a meme house that AMD has paid to stuff with the one GPU they make. He personally bought that 5090 and of course every single computer in his entire company is full of nvidia GPUs. No youtuber buys Radeon GPUs they just shill them to their audience

The free market has decided that the best use for RAM and GPUs is to cheat on college exams and make cartoon porn.Deal with it.

is 9950x3D overkill? I don't game heavily but still game regardless. my main usecase is blender/3D rendering. I'm currently using a 5900x but I'm getting nervous that prices are going to skyrocket and I'm thinking about buying a new cpu/mobo right now then buying the super refreshes (assuming they get made) and getting a new rtx card with 24gb vram to replace my 3080 12gb. As much as I would like a 5090, I just can't justify spending $3k on it
>>107601317nah fuck it, already switched to ryzen after years buying intel, ain't coming back
