Let's test once and for all if copying Bridgeman is the way. I'll copy "Complete Guide to Drawing for Life" twice in the next month (months? idk I'm working on getting into a masters program this year, I might get busy.) Let's lift the curse of permabegdom from me and hopefully from this board too.

And before anyone says it works, but it only works if you're not autistic, my doctor wants me to get an assessment, and I refused because I don't have the money for it right now. So we're working with Schrodinger's autism here.

Value-Colour-colour theory
And probably some more stuff but This is the gist of it.
>>
>>7202599
I don’t know (the tutorial doesnt say anything why?) but I can speculate that they think They need to as layers usually don’t blend colour in between themselves. Like a streak of colour wil generally be painted over instead of blended with in the first couple of strokes. But that tip is weird and when I first started digital art everyone said to never do that as you ruin your file for future use.

thanks man, I like the 3rd one clear defined shapes and light and shadow. I tried Med proko course I didn't like it. What I'm doing is:
1) doing sometimes exercises from Arthur Stern, how to see color and paint it (the color spotter is a great learning tool) available at archive.org
2) watching videos of others doing realistic paintings digitally
3) watching videos of people doing Caravaggio studies in oil.
4) primarily use rgb sliders for color mixing (Lin Ran advice)

not to be a faggot about semantics, but a well-done, that is accurate construction of a subject, necessarily involves 2D observational skills to some extent. perhaps what you mean is "a mix of freehand and construction." neither is necessarily better than the other. some people are better at freehand drawing, others at using construction. as long as you get the desired goal, that's all that matters; and feeling comfortable with your method is certainly a plus.

I'm having trouble differentiating between what is shadow and light and what is changes in skin tone due to, I guess blood flow or just how the skin tone changes due to where it it is on the body. You know what I'm saying?

I don't have a picture, but I saw some tiddies and compared them to both real pictures and drawings and I'd often see some shading on top of the jug, but light should have been hitting the top of the jug. Yet it looked natural anyhow.

Can anyone explain this?

Those are midtones, bud. Where the plane of the form hasn't turnED away from the light but is turnING away from the light. Your example has pushed the midtones darker than they would be in real life but they are close enough to the average light to read as still in light.

Appeal is not just "technical skill" but also the idea behind it, the pose, the angle, the composition, the character, the attire. You just need to tune in the technical style, work on that. Don't let "anatomy" deviate your raw instincts for visual appeal. If you WANT to do THAT particular pose and visual shape you can make it work. Don't let the norms turn you into just another cookie cutter tool in the production line.
I didn't made a "redline", it's just an example that what you did was hot enough that I felt the impulse to use it as ref to do the same pose and composition. That's all yours. You created that, otherwise I wouldn't even take a second look at it. It is hot. You have it, just keep having fun, no matter what.

Thanks anon. Yes, the problem is that I keep adding new "little" projects one on top of the other. And in a blink of an eye it becomes impossible to finish any single one of them. I was doing the FFVII one, and I started the one with the dark elf, then I did a few others like the Pink Panther, the SAtanic idol in the forest, and the Honey Bee (wich I still didn't finished), I did the Studio 69 wich was my favorite project but I put it on the side for the moment, and then I started another about a sexy amputee. And yesterday I saw that stuff from "Esdeath" and I had to start another. And just earlier today I saw some image and I had to do a simpsons quickie one. It all just became a whole mess LOL. I may finish the simpsons one today. It's gonna be just that one pic though... So that's the briefing resume on the /f/ situation.

it's good you tried, but many areas to improve. this would be complicated to execute well. Why its not great is that i) youre symbol drawing ii) its a closeup of an eye which is cliché so higher bar iii) basically in the subject you draw, there are lots of tonal variety, because its a closeup, think : the slight variety in skin. I would follow Keys to drawing if I was you.

No one who can create art is stupid. You're on the path of being a magical creature, a superior being around mere cattle. You're not here just to eat, shit and serve as food as the others. You create the most exquisite human byproduct, the ethereal ooze that produce in the human cattle emotions wich stirs the jimmies of the gods of light above, and the dark serpents below. You rule the invisible waves of the human emotions. You have been chosen, you have the gift. Cattle eat and chop the tree, you see the tree and you admire that creation. And you try to replicate it, study it, save his desgn and secrets. That means, a gen of the gods is mixed in your dna. You can have it, if you want it.

Dont listen to that fag. Being able to put pretty lines to paper is nothing special and you will realize many great/good artists are braindead motherfuckers aside from making pretty pictures.
Most artists of all fields then to have super inflated egos for this reason.

Can you realize your work is flawed, pinpoint its flaw, compare it to another work that is less flawed or flawless (subjective) and correct your work? Congratulations, you have what it takes to get better.
It may take you more or less time than other artists depending on stuff like talent, time spent, lifestyle and other shit but remember that a missile know where it is because it knows where it isnt.

looks really cool. I have a question. It looks like you painted over your lineart in some places, really noticeable on the belt buckle. I see this quite ofton and I like this look but how do you go on with rendering when there is this layer with paint at the top? I assume you will continue to render under the lineart until the end. What is the process? I also paint over the lineart but always when eveything is finished.

hmm,, not terrible, not too good either, drawing with shorter lines/forms is easier but you can lose the plot as you stack them on top of each other
drawing long lines and long forms is just super difficult in general, but it gets things where you want them to be
How do i compromise this issue

Howie here, i'm quitting for good on the account on having gotten a job.
I couldn't do it back when i had infinite time, so there's no reason why i would be able to do it now.
See you in a few years when i save up enough to neat for a few years before suicide or sooner if i get fired.
>>
I will also be quitting for a few months to focus on some terribly competitive exams
see you all soon and have fun

Now that you have a job you will be lurking here more than ever. LOL. And you will attack this board more than ever. Stay strong anon. Save money build your own comfort bubble.Leave this shithole, pay a good art atelier for classes with real life model drawing, go to conventions. You will be better from now on.

Is it a bad idea to use images of 3D models as reference?
>>
>>7204184
no, but using bad references is indeed bad idea.
> bad references?
- bad subject
- poor lighting
- complicated poses
- messy values
- too many lights sources
etc
>>
>>7203684
focus on shape and form, shoulders, face and even breast look flat, add 2 more values on the skin shade

3D models as stills are fine but you run into problems if the models are pose in extreme ways. Models don't take into account the way things like clavicles and scapulas extend when arms reach forward/upward, but as long as you're aware of these limitations they can still be a useful tools.

is very hard to read as it is, I think playing with a wider value range and simplifying the shapes will help to make things pop, also where that evil sphincter is placed is very distracting you can play around with the composition to make the face the main focus. the webm is a rough of the main idea.

But awesome illustration pretty challenging.

I can see what you're doing here, and her anatomy is beautiful, head is great too. But for most people it will be a NIGHTMARE to read that figure/image. So be aware of that.I hope you disregard any of that (let them be filtered) and you keep doing what you're doing.
Only thing that I would change would be that upper torso area, her chest could be placed upper, near her neck. I believe that the more challenging thing is her forearm/hand foreshortening. I think you already have what you need to get this one done. Good luck anon.

>I would add texture to the line if you look at other animal drawings they often are not drawn with smooth lines and are more jagged. If you can't find an example I'd check out Beatrix Potter.

I am sorry for the late response, But I will look this guy up. My focus was on the choice of rendering and outcomes of the lighting. But since I am drawing animal people, it is probably best if I take that into consideration (even though I draw animal people as if they brush their own fur coat as part of their hygine).

Brother you don't need anyone's approval to do whatever the fuck you want to do. A ref doesn't mean "a perfect guide to anatomy under the artistic norms of beauty and classical academy". A ref is good enough as an idea to do whatever the hell you want. Just have fun.

no, i usually do the same thing you do, with painting over the top if neccesary. Sometimes I'll add or erase to the lineart before this if neccesary but overall i just use normal layers picking the colors manually.
