Had some free time this afternoon so I drew this as a followup to something I posted here last week. How did I do as far as the head/face goes? By this point in my life I feel like I sort of know what I'm going for when drawing a woman's body but the head/face area is usually where I struggle.

You're at the first step towards becoming a great artist. Look to a an artist you admire and copy what they do, you will quickly gain an eye for how they create images. Also look for basic anatomy and construction, even anime artists reference this for their stuff. You have the passion keep it up anon

Frustrated because I'm checking out the sticky and he's showing us how to draw shapes in this youtube video, how to block things out using cylinders, boxes, etc. But he doesn't really, he says things like "okay so then figure out where the ellipses going". That's very difficult for me, he doesn't really explain how you're supposed to do it, just tells you to do it.

Maybe it's silly but are there resources for people who are just beginning as well?

Can anyone help my face? Im trying for a pseudo anime style so obviously not realistic, does this look ok
Please don't tell me it's the hair because I really like this hair
>>
>>7200466
I don't mean this to be rude, but it is a bit blunt: I wouldn't advise you worrying about your style when, clearly, what you're gonna produce is of poor quality. if you like anime, then focus on anime I suppose, but I would concern myself with a more conventionally appealing style first, so you have a solid reference point to reach. then when you get however close you desire, you can move on to something more stylized that is of some quality.
>>
>>7200465
I see. Problem is I cannot do step one, draw those boxes and those other 3D shapes. My mind is not really used to visualizing in 3D I guess, because everything comes out wonky. Do you have resources for this? Once I can get that down then I can follow the rest of the guide you've posted.

others will insult you but they can't draw boxes themselves (they change a lot depending on the perspective and the "lens" you're using), check the Krenz course, there are 16 boxes you need to learn, the others you can learn them later
learn these boxes and you are ready to go

I understand you, people say "Just draw a box" but first you have to understand perspective, there's so much distortion when you change the angle just a little bit, sometimes you can eyeball it, but not always, sometimes you have to know how to rotate (almost) perfectly

it is ultimately your choice how you should approach studies at this point, but perhaps consider whether worrying more about proportions before color/rendering would be more productive. not that you can't do both, and maybe you do work on observational skills/proportions more than rendering, but if not, it might be a better use of your time.

Chris Chan doesn't know how to learn, which means all the practice he does is just reinforcing and being satisfied with poor drawing. That's why I'm asking for resources to learn where to draw the lines on the spheres. I can keep drawing them, but it will all look wonky and doesn't get better.

I could also bruteforce it, trial and error, which I highly doubt Chris does. He doesn't have the eye or mind to criticize his work and find ways to improve it. But why would I bruteforce when I can instead ask for a resource to help this gap in my knowledge?

you don't have to do anything and can practice any fundie as you desire. obvious fundamentals compliment each other, and some more than others, but if you're struggling with one all you can do is practice more, practice more intently, ask and look around to see if you can improve your specific study methods and general drawing techniques, and ask for critiques on your studies.

if you could post the ref, that would be useful. that said, an obvious problem is a lack of effort all around. this couldn't have taken you even 30 minutes to do. not that you have to make every drawing 30+ minutes, but obviously the more time you have the more you can do with a drawing; and depending on your level, you can maximize or minimize that time. I don't mean to be rude, truly, but with drawings like this a better question is often not "what went wrong?" but "what went right?", to which the best thing that can be said is perhaps that it looks like an anthropomorphic figure, which presumably the character actually is.

Well, I didn't really use a single ref, I admit. Google the character, and the first 4 images are basically what I used. The character is Laios from Dungeon Meshi, someone requested it.
That's correct, it did not take me much time, but I feel like I should be able to do better? For reference, I also drew this, with slightly more time but still under 30 minutes, while with this one i had a feeling from the start it would not go well
These drawings are also referenced.

And don't worry, you're not rude at all. I am not upset by what you said.

he's not complicated either, he's just long. but his lessons build up from the last so its not like he's just adding filler
>>
>>7201177
>I feel like I should be able to do better?
regardless of your level, it's only natural that some of your drawings are going to be better than others - even if you have roughly the same amount of time and similarly use references. in short, don't expect to draw at the same quality - however great or small that is - with every drawing you make. as someone else said to another anon, I would recommend you to simply work on your general fundamental skills more. observation and perspective are the most "fundamental" of fundamentals, as all drawings necessarily include them, so perhaps work on those more immediately you like, but really how you should go about it is up to you at the end of the day.

if you want to work on your observational skills, I wouldn't recommend using those. if you want to check the proportions and placement of features you can overlay your drawing in a photo-editing software, open the reference photo on another layer, and turn down the opacity of the top layer. also, while there are still other problems like symbol drawing (eyes, nose, mouth), what stands out the most is the ends of the fingers and how you make them ovular, when they're often straight on the sides.

The pose and overall figure is great, (pretty nice legs). But still, is the "presentation" that defeats your effort. You need to get out of the "ultra detail" stage. Sorry I thought you were being sarcastic. Drawing basic shapes can make you break away from symbol drawing. Spheres, cylinders and boxes are your fundamentals for making the human figure. Mind you you'll also want to incorporate gesture so as not to make your figures too stiff. It's also a necessity to know basic perspective before you dive into any of this.

i love how there is a subtle transition between the shadows and where the light hits especially on the bra and clavicles

draw a violent cone
keep in mind which direction it is spinning in and try to reflect that in your drawing
in other words, draw a tall and hollow beyblade made of wind
any lines you draw should wrap around the form of the tornado

Thanks anon. I don't usually use that brush, but it is VERY common. You may surely recognize it, it's that sort of "fractal" looking one. Every painting software had one of those, it is called "Curve Brush". Krita have two of those labeled under "Sketch". That's why you see all Krita users doing sketches with that one brush. You just set the opacity of the brush down to 20% and there you go. Problem is that it is very sloppy, it is cool to do that sketching "slop" but you will hate it for anything else. Also it is very taxing on the nibs and the tablet surface. Photoshop have a similar one. But you may have to tweak the settings to get it to look like the krita one. Just check "Curve Brush" if you want to play with it on Photoshop. But, just download krita and play with the brush, have fun. Also, use the eraser toggle key to erase with the same brush. That's very important, so it will be consistently "sloppy" LOL. Just keep your canvas at 3000px or below. Krita is very demanding when using that brush it seems.

the type of monster cock I came up with has a dog knot at the base, corkscrews up the shaft, a double knot at the end similar to a fossa, and the glans is encased in a flower petal radial like structure that opens up into a glans resembling a softshell turtle species:

We all follow the same path. We want to draw like our favorite anime artist, we manage to copy illustrations form them, perfectly. But then we realize we can't construct jackshit by ourselves. Like Proko doing the kangaroo. "Do asuka eating an icecream now" and all you can do is Naruto taking a shit. So you go to the "western classic masters". But you do the same mistake copying classic pieces like a xerox. And then someone says "now do the David throwing the stone" And you can't even think about how to do that. So you go learn anatomy, but then you realize you are making horrible shit with zero appeal. So you realize that you must grind a trillion poses to understand what you're drawing and build the image in your head. So you grind figures, but it's a monumental task that your head refuses to engage with. And then it happens, you start to reach for the primordial basic instincts, the coomer brain (if you have it) takes control. And you start to grind for FUN, every crazy fun shit, all combinations, all possibilities, you even seek other people ideas. And you have the time of your life turning crazy ideas into visual depictions. It's the power of god, growing, being cast like magic. And then you can bend shit in whatever shape, form or style, because you obsessed for years so much, fucking up, dropping it, starting again, dropping it again, starting again, till one day you just have it. But you can't have it with out the fuck ups and fails. And the acceptance that you will not "make it". Cause at some point you will have to go on having fun with this, knowing that it's a lost battle. Whoever gave you this blessing was a satanic joker, and the bless it's just a curse that will haunt you till the day you die. And the only thing you can do is to find a "deep" meaning for it. And accept that it is there, like in the movie "A beautiful mind" the guy accept that an invisible person is there looking at him even when that thing doesn't exist, but only in his mind

I think that's low int. that's pretty good man.
The only thing that bothers me is the girl in the background and the effect (filter?) that you applied. I assume you were going for an out-of-focus effect, but it feels a bit inconsistent. that and maybe seeing the clothing wrap behind her in some of the shoulders and sleeves to give it more depth.

Like I said, it is a pretty common "artistic path", a lot of people have similar stories. But I think that in the present times that "common path" will be broken. Kids today behave in totally different way. With AI now they won't feel the need to imagine and produce their own ideas or "art pieces". And with the overload of content feed, they will not have to even think or imagine anything anymore. It is already happening with young kids.

neji's attack is sort of a defensive dome of chakra
so i would say draw neji first and then draw the dome around him (as a guideline to erase or hide later) then add the tornado like details
also glad to know that i helped! :D

peep world of guns on steam (free program that allows you to study the construction of guns)
there is also a infograph of how to draw a gun floating around the board if an anon could be so kind to post it (not sure if i have it saved)
the infograph breaks down gun construction
for things you are unfamiliar with, what helped me was to start big and THEN add details unless the detail is supposed to be the focus of the piece

your advice helped! I based this image off a picture of an Airbender making a dome but yeah, drawing the dome shape and then doing the lines after did work

also blurring it does also help a lot with making it look more like a tornado, since anything spinning is by nature going to be blurry

I like this as a trial run but I think when I draw this sort of stuff in the future I will probably draw fewer, thicker, and more jagged lines like the large ones in picrel, and cut down on the thinner lines.

the torso itself is well drawn imo
a full frontal face is not bad btw in my opinion, its about the WHOLE picture dont get stuck up on all the details
as for the other points
>rock looks fine to me and it isnt where my eye is drawn
if you want to improve on that, practice drawing naature, and bodies of water
>perspective volume, depth
just run some exercises and you're gucci

same as the other point run exercises and you are good

Sorry, unrelated, but how do you build a following as a sfw artist? I know I got the algorithm on my side unlike my nsfw account, but I have 0 followers and only have started posting art on that account.
Do I just post consistently? Follow Trends? My media thread isn't shat up with reaction images and slop. It's literally just my art.

She's supposed to be standing but her pose is that of a cactus. Kinda like those cactus characters from Final Fantasy. I just kinda made a pose from imagination but I'll have narrative in mind next time.

As for guidelines I can only offer this initial sketch I did before going over it in more detail. Started with getting the movement and "feel" of the pose down first before going into finer details. Hope this pic suffices and thanks for the tips.

mostly the pose and the b&w values

I mean... it's not like you have to draw 1000 boxes daily
it's 250 at your fucking pace man
do 10 a day, 5 a day and go on toward study what you are actually interested in... i myself invest 3 daily hours since i work so i go 1 hour of study and 2 hours of drawing for fun.
>>
>>7202154
seconding this question because i love drawing faces
what i usually do is draw a circle and construct the jaw from there and separate the face based on how i want the proportions to be
so if i want big eyes i outline a spot for eyes and go from there

I tried making them equal size but it didn't look right. Usually depending on the angle I understand I have to make one smaller and one larger but it's tough to get the hang of.
>>
>>7202227
try using more straight lines, there are too many convex lines so it looks bloated like a sausage woman, try to find and draw the boney parts of the body, (clavicle, elbow, ulna, asis, sacrum, ribs, knee, ankles, etc) this will help you in getting a better flow of your lines.

drop the stabilizer for now get better at freehand.

I would add texture to the line if you look at other animal drawings they often are not drawn with smooth lines and are more jagged. If you can't find an example I'd check out Beatrix Potter.

Learning to construct a basic mannequin in perspective probably. Getting to that point probably requires a few to a lot of steps inbetween.
