I've been practicing rendering this past week. How is this looking? Still a wip but i'm really happy with how it's turning out.

Also the gold is fucking me up(I was seething in the thread yesterday complaining about how hard rendering gold is). I arrived at this dogshit yesterday and gave up and started with the shoes instead. Does anyone have any tips? I won't rest until it looks acceptable but looking at references I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

Any criticism or suggestion is welcome

Anyways i think i get why a lot of art communities always lie and lovebomb new people. Its because they population would -ACK overnight.
Anyways we are going to make it. I tried loomies and these other books but most of them can be boiled down to 2 pages. I just copy stuff freehand with little to no construction and desu i feel better this way. Everything i draw comes slightly wrong out anyways so maybe raw drawing a lot will make me more accurate?
And besides even if you think that your drawing is bad (which i dont think), you spending two hours on it is something i envy. I dont think i have ever sat down for more than 30 minutes on something and i dont even know how i could spend that much time on a drawing.

How do i get more accurate at copying or just drawing in general? Things individually dont look too terrible but in the grad scheme of things that is a little too long, the other thing is too much to the left, another thing has the wrong angle.

There are some obvious issues but the hair is the way it is because i have a "no reset policy". I sit on a piece and draw permanent lines. Otherwise i erase too much or cross over and burn through pages and motivation.

>>7336727
I dont get the sticky. It lists techniques and kinda thats what it does. What good is it to explain to a newbie that by charting positive and negative shapes they can draw them more accurately. I know that breaking down stuff makes it easier to draw and i know the loomies method but i feel like that is not important if everything comes out slightly off. For now i just want to draw on paper what i see on my screen. I tried getting in these guides but when i cant even copy the presented guide lines correctly what good is it?

Use the dynamic brush tool:

But that doesn't mean that you will turn into fucking Frazetta just because of some stabilizing help. Just keep drawing and honing confidence in your line strokes. Tools can only help so much, they won't do the work for you.

That's what the timed gestures are for. Completing a decent gesture in 60 or even 120 seconds is almost impossible as a beginner and immediately reveals foundational issues in your understanding of proportions and lines. Grinding them out, realizing your mistakes and making your copying more efficient will improve your ability to copy among other things and enforce the things you learn from anatomy and construction guides like Loomis and Morpho.
In a way, it forces you to improve in a way a guide won't be able replicate.

I dont know what to tell you my man, it looks like they picked a lighter color, went over it with a hard brush, and then added some texture on top. Why are you making it so hard by needing to use a blend mode? Just use the brush and pick a slightly lighter and less saturated color than the darker parts of the booba

its fine anon, but i think you should define your priorities in practice and workflow. I wouldn't worry too much about brushes right now, the first thing I would focus on if I were you is to start defining the shadow shapes, it will help you in your sense of form. Is great that you are willing to go into super details, that zipper looks like it took too much patience, but it took time that would be better spent in other things like figuring out how to match the hand sizes or fixing the jacket neck. sketch more! great job.

I started learning 3D. I don't know anything about anatomy. Should I study it anatomy traditionally before dipping in 3D modelling? I neglected the fundies and it shows. Unironically pay for classes with 3d and do something like gnomon, or at least learn from a professional, or your workflow's probably going to be fucked.

Also if you don't know 2D, you're flying blind on 3D, the basis in proportion and forms gives you a lot of the knowledge you need to say "that probably doesn't go there" or "that doesn't look right, BECAUSE..." when modeling.

I mostly want to focus on the tits for this one and some minor proportional nitpicks. When you're drawing, think about how gravity is effecting objects or how other objects press on each other. From where her breast meet in the middle, they hang off the rib cage and it's noticeable when they're this big. think about how gravity pulls them down. I made her torso slightly taller but that's preference. One thing that does bother me is where her left arm meets her forearm. The taper should be happening at that meeting point, in your drawing it's been reversed. The shirt has problems of its own that need to be addressed separately, you don't distinguish where areas are stretched or compressing making for some confusing folds. For the ass fangs, they shouldn't overlap at this angle.

You got any reference?

Also I’m with the other anon, these look nice. Your organic shapes are strong, but your forms are weak. I also think starting with a circle will damage your hair drawing in the long run because hair isn’t on a circle, it’s on a skull. I think roughly establishing at least the top of the skull the hair falls would be a good step, or at bare minimum making it a sphere and not a circle, so you can have form to work with

really great anon, but I feel like the composition could be done better. There should be more value separation of the characters and the background. I pushed the background darker to try to show that. Might have pushed it a little too dark but oh well you choose what you want to do.

Along with that, I'm kind of confused on what main light source is getting casted on the characters. I feel like you might want to make the moon less prominent as a light source and make whatever is behind the camera be the main light source.

Your foreground (the hands) and midground (the main 2) are not recognizable right away as being on separate plains. There is no value or visual distinguishments. A couple ways this could be solved is to place a physical item in front of the characters, but behind the skeleton hand. Another way would to have the hand cover part of the two characters to clearly show it's in front of them.

Again, good work, but more to think about :^)
>>
>>7337495
Thanks for the critique. It is still unfinished and I am planing to have the background have more contrast. The characters still only have their flat colors and greyscale, that's why they look so flat. I have yet to paint the lighting on them, but I want to paint the bulk of the background first. I want to achieve a smilar feel like picrel

>>
So I am having some serious issues lately.
1. I can't seem to do proportions properly like I used to, my ability to see and scale what I am studying has gotten worse.

2. I am struggling to develop a consistent technique with all my drawings, feeling like I lack the ability to do things in a structured manner.

3. I struggle with doing gestures.

4. I think i have become far more OCD/Perfectionist and it is driving me up the friggin wall

5. Someone a few weeks ago told me I hadn't improved a bit due to the fact I rush my figure studies because I find them boring and want to draw something more fun, but I keep needing to do them or else I forget how to pose characters

6. It takes me FOREVER to do a decent figure study, takes me hours.

Sorry I am just frustrated. Can't even take a week long break from drawing or else I seem to fall back.

Gonna finish her tomorrow, but am struggling.

How the hell do you draw the other eye in perspective? I haven't fully figured it out yet and it's frustrating as fuck right now.

I spent a lot of time just tweaking the length of her legs/proportions by the way, very frustrating and slow. I can see the errors but always way too late and I keep changing my mind, it's frustrating I hope later on I can draw much quicker.

Will appreciate critiques as I'll apply them to her tomorrow.

>>
>>7338049
They are until you want to vary width, then you will go back to pencils or a mechanical with a thick lead
>>
>>7338039
I realised my issue.

I can't mannequinize my sketches. Like I sorta just draw the shape out they look from a perspective, but don't really draw the actual basic shape if that makes sense? So I end up fiddling with the lines until they look "right", the torso (the narrow space between the ribs and pelvis) took me forever because I didn't do the basic shape earlier on so I just spent forever figuring it out until it looked "right" enough.

I dunno I am just incredibly bad at sketching and I dunno where I should go to improve this as it's making ALL my drawings more frustrating and time consuming.

Also I keep changing my mind on how to draw the eyes...I go from drawing basic lines with the corners (and then drawing the proper shape over them), to just drawing the proper shape from the get go which is super frustrating to do.

wrap the mouth around the face, also that other eye is pretty out of place.

Painting is pretty easy to understand, hard to execute, basically if you think of your drawing as a 3d wire frame model you could paint along the form emphasizing form changes, of course you'll have to do this while keeping light shadow and color in mind which is hard. Most people who have an anime style basically lay down flats first, block out the shadows, then the lighter midtones and highlights, followed by environmental changes like the glow of a lamp or the moon or something.

I think you’re on the right track honestly, you just have to pick away at individual problem areas one at a time.
Don’t keep working on the same drawing. Start a new one. Once you realize a drawing looks bad (in an overall sense, not just “this one line is wrong but I can fix it”) then you should think about why it’s wrong, note that for next time, then scrap it and start over. You want to iterate fast. Getting bogged down on trying to fix a drawing that’s fundamentally broken will waste a lot of time.
For now I would focus on doing more studies from reference (especially other artists, not just life photos) and try to just copy it as close as you can, don’t freestyle too much at this point.

I mean, that’s not a zero. It’s /beg/ but it’s not zero. There’s something there to work with and improve on.
You really just need to start drilling down into what specifically you need to get to the next level. Do studies of artists you want to draw like. When you’re drawing something original and you feel like something is going wrong, stop, compare it to some good references that are similar to what you’re trying to accomplish, and really try to think and figure out what they’re doing that you’re not.

Thanks.
That being said, I'll try to finish her by tomorrow and then move on. I do try not to dwell forever on what I draw but sometimes that can result in me rushing pics without realising it. I will finish her, and then move on.

At this stage I am trying to just get used to drawing, even if I am not great at it, I just want to be able to draw whatever I want even if it kinda sucks...I feel if I can do that it'll be easier for me to learn all the more complicated shit since I'll have a better foundation rather than just not knowing what the fuck I'm doing...

I appreciate that suggestion to just do studies of other artists. I'll do more of that over the next few months for sure. I even collected a bunch of pics from artists I like lately, so I have a lot to work with.

Did a study from life. Food packaging. Main goal was to have the perspective not be completely off. It's not terrible but it's not perfect either. I was measuring angles with my mechanical pencil, holding it out and tilting it, I wonder if there are any other tricks besides this.

I've started watching Marshall's perspective course and after 3 videos he barely said any new information that I could use in a drawing. I'd want to drill perspective, but this series doesn't even have exercises. I guess I'll keep doing studies like this.

The other Anon had the skills to do what they did but lacked the composition, there isn't major improvement just more clarity in what they wanted to achieve. Seems like a lot of fan art and ref so the designs look better- not to knock that other anon what they did is hard work none the less and their work looks pretty solid. I'm saying that they had it in them to create what they're creating now and it's a logical- not crazy extreme progression.

I finished it...if you can call it that.

Not one of my best work, though I will admit while those toes don't look good at all, I didn't struggle with figuring out how to do their proportions because usually when I attempt toes I just can't do them due to being unable to draw them, but after today I guess I have a better understanding of that now, kinda.

Not pleased with her arm, face feels very off to me though I tried my best with her perspective...and I also had a cold and was tired today so I guess that may not have helped.

>I hadn't drawn once in the three whole weeks i've been unemployed despite earnestly intending to.

Yeah That's normal, you're trying to do something that you haven't really done without any obligation to. It's not that you don't want to draw it's more that you've been avoiding drawing by doing other things and it has become a habit not to. When you avoid things you teach your brain that it's bad, that it is scary so you should keep avoiding it and the things you do besides drawing comes with reward so of course you're not going to want to do it. Make a rule "I will sit in this chair for one hour to draw" just 1 hr a day , start off with something you like drawing live in your comfort zone for about a week, then turn to what you want to know and do studies. This is a common thing that happens in life, you fall off with a habit and think "Maybe I never wanted to do it" while it was just lack of proper maintenance. The first month I was unemployed I struggled for about a month as well, I didn't work out, I didn't draw, I didn't look for a new job, but then I implemented the "One is better than Zero" rule I talk of here, and worked my way up from there.

Tbh I think her hand looks fucking awful, I just need to get the hang of getting better at drawing them...and yeah the pointy fingers I guess is because I can't draw feminine fingers yet.

And I appreciate the criticism of the toe nails, I honestly couldn't be arsed to go that far for this one. I'm just happy I got to have semi acceptable low detail feet since I struggled with that for a while...hopefully I'll get better at them in the future.

I am hoping I'll have another full body character pic to share later in the week, I need to get more consistent with drawing full character pics from here on out.

as far as expressions go. Find an artist you like and try and decontruct each line used for the mouth, eyes, nose etc when making an expression. Are the eye brows always down in the expression? Should extra lines be added around the eyes to express stress? Things like that. Watch Mikeymegamega if you want to draw sexo.

Also pls rate

Is that alien X?
Mmm, kinda thorn on manial shinning effects, i think blurred ones look better. (pic related)

Guess you could add an orane overlay/lighten/glow layer with the black hole since its orange glow is completely lost on your hero.
Or maybe make the black hole have a blueish glow.

Hands look good and mmm, do like that you got the outline in between each finger to show depth, but... it s a bit hard to read imo.

upper hand does look stretched. But i doubt mst would care to notice.

and yeah as you can see, just simple frowns and smiles.
I want to kinda do mre like what this anon did for me to make better butts, her expressions are way better than what i can do, also drives the point that this is a completely corrupted/wicked version of the heroine.
>>

*orange overlay
what the hell is up with me today ughhh
>>
>>7341290
I think making the black hole have an orange glow was a bad idea since both Alien X and the black hole arent supposed to reflect light (other than his own)

What brush/effect do you use to get the aura coming off your character, it looks really good and I struggle with that sort of thing.

As far as more extreme expressions go, in my experience its just something I need to trial and error before I can get it to look right but references are definitely helpful.
>>
>>7341305
1750282 < CSP item id
Its a fire brush but well, motion blurred upwards set at color dodge.

but yeah, it is a bit odd outof context since the black hole looks af if it is behind and in front of him.

perhaps make the flames of the black hole go above / cover the lower hand a bit.
