your understanding of color value is what is lacking. It's very common for people used to representing value in black and white. I'd recommend color studies in addition to your landscape paintings.

Day 5ish here and have the opposite problem

I seem to be drawing much better than I should for how much experience I have, and it is making me nervous because once reality comes back on I will be devastated

That being said, 9 days is not a lot for progress I think, but you should be proud you have been at it for almost 2 weeks now! My couple of attempts have always failed after a day or two, I'm on my longest streak as well I think

Keep going!

yep, same. i think i'll stick with it this time, the pewdiepie videos are really motivating because i've been really blackpilled about learning art skills after age 12, but he managed to do it at 35, we just have to stick with it and try to improve.

When I was first learning color value and theory I'd take images I liked and try to accurately pick the color then eyedrop it to see what the color actually is compared to mine then note the difference in hue, saturation and shade or tint. Also depending on the program you're using you can set up a color profile for that switches your colors to black and white values. As a matter of fact, I'd use a color palette and try to order ROYGBVI from brightest to darkest then switch it to black and white to help you internalize that. It's definitely tricky but it's not as hard as you'd think and on the plus side once you get color value down color theory comes a lot easier.

there are arguments for escalation but years of true crime content will teach anyone that some people are born with wrinkles in the brain that force them into bestiality, scat, sado masochism and so on. nobody "builds up" to that shit.

Normal porn to futa (& trans) is arguably "the" pipeline of porn. Most if not all male-female porn has the viewer focus on 2 things: female form and male dick. Makes sense that the brain would "optimize" for futa. But scat means you have a mental condition.
>>
>>7363099
>nobody "builds up" to that shit.
proven wrong by most basic bitch neurobiology, neuroplasticity
neuron clusters grow towards neurotransmitter rewards, rewards have a chaotic degree of distribution with what's affecting them ranging from your thoughts at the moment to hormonal balance at the moment to environment at the moment
make a wrong turn and your curious experimenting brain trying to find more neurotransmitter rewards can get you into a loop if you leave yourself unchecked
>>
>>7363115
I'm glad I always just fapped to lewd images of anime women and not actual pornography of people fucking but regrettably I am an architect and goon to anime bbw and often anthro.
>>
>>7363121
>make a wrong turn and your curious experimenting brain trying to find more neurotransmitter rewards can get you into a loop if you leave yourself unchecked
this is the operative phrase. at some point, you need to willingly jack it to guro and scat to become conditioned to guro and scat. there's also a preponderance of evidence that coomers spend years in their "happy place" be that ass, tits, feet or whatever. and yet, something forces some coomers down dark roads. nature vs nurture argument continues on i guess.
>>
>>7363128
>you need to willingly jack it to guro and scat to become conditioned to guro and scat
willingness isn't binary since unconscious influence is involved
you don't decide to jack off to what you find vile when you're unaroused, when you're unaroused

>nature vs nurture argument continues on i guess.
at the end of the day it's easy to change either way, whether some gene is triggering some more neurotransmitter release over some patterns (which happens, and which is not the final damning sentence) or not
>>
>>7363133
>you don't decide to jack off to what you find vile when you're unaroused, when you're unaroused
this is only relevant for terminal gooners who must be predisposed to these actions because the normal jorkin it process for coomers is feel horny, look at boobs, blow load, back to game. you're describing someone who enters into an aroused fugue state and suddenly loses the ability to discern attraction between boobs and shit piles, implying something was already different in this gooner's brain.
>>
>>7363121
Exactly, you reach for stronger stuff but scat is only more arousing for people that arleady have a scat fetish. For someone who likes tits they'll reach for higher def, higher number, maybe bugger tits, but not scat. Like with drugs, you reach for bigger/stronger doses but you'll never start eating shit, you'll eat shit if you like eating shit. It's so simple that it's crazy you got that backwards, I guess that's what copium does

>fetish is when... 1.5 more neurotransmitter molecules may be produced over something
thanks for proving my point that your epic fatalism is completely irrelevant to practical reality
>>
>>7363149
it has to be a predisposition otherwise the porn market wouldn't be dominated by normiecore. but it is, because that's where the vast majority of coomers stop, ie, they see asses and titties, cum, and stop thinking about it. but some gooners enter into it with goonerbrain, don't get the high they need from tits, don't get it from traps, etc, until they land on scat and assume the escalated instead of just popping the "fetish" balloon on their dartboard.
>>
>>7363159
>your point implies that everyone is always a rational machine comparable to a digital computer
my point implies the opposite, that brains are different and some people are just born liking shit or S&M or whatever. it just takes a natural exploration of the pornosphere before they find the category that lights up the proper regions of their brains. "exploration" is misdiagnosed as "escalation."

I meant shit like this
You aren't drawing shit here. You are just using a fucking asset and putting it on the canvas. Glorified photobashing.

You know what I like about trad? It is raw. You have paper, you have pencils, lets fucking go.
Whenever I see digital "artists" workflows where they transform entire layers, trace over models, use a myriad of different layers to play with the lighting and filters and shit and how different it is from just taking a pencil and drawing I wonder what the fuck are they even doing?

I like digital's convenience because I can use layers, erase and undo easily and everything is locked away inside a drive in my computer instead of having my degenerate shit on my desk but I despise how utterly sterile and fake it can be.
>>
>>7363201
Koh-i-Noor Rapidograph is my favorite. The .35 is on Blick for 35 USD before shipping which is pricey, but very "buy once cry once." That is expensive though, instead for 7 USD on Amazon you can get another good pen, the Signo RT1 in a 5-pack.
>>
>>7363207

>>
If I can draw a basic orthographic projection of a figure in front/side view, am I good to start learning 3d? I don't have to be concerned things like gesture, perspective. composition, etc. if I am just drawing a character T-posing.
>>
>>7363216
Look at any twitter post advertising the brushes (especially the free ones) and you will find hundreds of artists replying to it.
>>
>>7363208
You know what's raw? Charcoal on a cave wall. I'm sick of you graphite and paper users with your ability to erase if needed. Back in my day you got what you got and that was it.
>>
>>7363221
"Everything after Altamira" was meant as a freeing statement for a reason
>>
>>7363219
Hundreds of artists are also ass. Most people photobash poorly. The workflows you're discussing are also present in trad with things like camera obscura, light trays, mixed media. There's different ways of creating. The one thing digital has over trad is that it allows for rapid creation of art because of the lack of downtime that you'd require with something like oils.
>>
>>7363210
>Is she disabled?
I mean she probably has ADHD and autism but really she just didn't have to try very hard to get the validation she wanted. When she realized how hard it was to make money with it she gave up within a few years.
>>
>>7363209
I'd much rather use pencil than pen. do you have any recommendations on those?
>>
>>7363230
Just as an FYI, this
>anyone else who likes to draw pen and paper, what kind of pens should i be using?
implies looking for ink pens. Typically, "pen" is just the ink type, and "pencil" is the graphite variant. I like sketching in blue though, so I often use the Pilot Color Eno. It's super cheap, I think it's 6-ish USD for a .7mm pencil and the box of leads. Pentel makes a good .3mm pencil, the GraphGear, but I think it's pricey. Those are my most used typically, or a very old Staedtler Mars. Leads vary, I mentioned blue, for the .3mm I like 4B, sometimes I will use another .7mm (I think it is a twist-erase but all the markings are gone) with 4H, and for the 2mm leads I use 2B.

Here's a very quick and dirty redline with construction and style examples. Try following the example on that construction, and then repeat the construction itself.
The issue is in the construction and how it's treated.
You didn't seem to cut off the sides of the sphere to have the general shape imitate a skull (noticeable by how you've drawn the far cheek), which isn't good, since, in this view on the head. it helps to define how you're going to draw the far cheek, the close side of the jaw, and the back hair.
It's also good to remember that the ear level is close to the eye level (experiment around), typical non-Western anime proportions have the face take the lower half of the head, the face isn't exactly a flat shovel and so the eyes aren't placed flatly, the dot nose position is based on giving a subtle highlight to the tip of the nose if you would've drawn it in full.
Also, in your case, drawing the lip edges makes no sense when the mouth is fully open. In a typical smile, anatomically, the upper lip's rather straight, it's the lower lip pull and cheeks pull that form the smile.

Don't rush it, do designated study sessions next. You'll love your improvement.

I'm currently away from any means of engaging in digital art, so I've just been using inks and markers. No worries, I understand now. Honestly I don't really use wooden pencils much anymore, but I did use a couple of these Cretacolor pencils down to nubs at one point. They are pretty big and got used a ton when I would sketch outside and super tiny details weren't important. But yeah all my pencils now are mechanical or propelling.

I see, I'll plan some studies around the skull and construction.

I was going for a different angle but i guess my alignement were wrong if that’s what you got out of it. I saw the mistake on the ear and made it bigger. It’s still not accurate position wise (and neither is the mouth) but its based on big animu artists style so it should be fine (hopefully).

Shitpost or not thanks for the detailed answer.

If you're interested in wooden pencils, it's hard to go wrong with either staedtler of faber-castell.
a 2B, 4B and an 8B pencil of either brand will serve you very well, with the 2B being good for light sketching, 4B for lining and the 8B good for putting in darker tones and shading.

Tape paper over the tablet and draw.
Otherwise unironically buy an used Ipad Pro or get a used Wacom cintiq pro on Ebay. Both cases you can find something for at least 800-1000 USD which is actually a steal for the color accuracy and precision you will get and you will actually feel like you're drawing traditionally instead of moving a cursor around with a weird ass mouse instead.

Trying to draw a tank shooting at another tank way off in the distance. This one’s turning out harder than I thought it would be. Tanks are almost all straight lines but the perspective/forms for the turret are giving me trouble. Even using reference images and booting up warthunder for reference Im struggling to get this right. Should the turret use the same vanishing points as the hull since they’re connected, or should it be different since the turret is rotated? I tried making the turret’s vanishing point where I’ll eventually put the rival tank (The main tank’s target) but Im not sure that’s working, I tried to have it a bit beyond the rival tank, but that didn’t look right either.

The turret should have different vanishing points since it's rotated. Lines that are parallel in reality go to the same vanishing point--when the turret is rotated, it's no longer parallel with the body.
If you're using 2-point perspective the turret's vanishing points should still be on the same horizon line though since it's level with the body.

I think the main issue with your drawing is that the turret is drawn as if the viewer is staring down from a decent height. At that angle, the horizon wouldn't be visible.
Also notice that the vertical lines on your turret are splaying out--their vanishing point is above the turret.
In 2-point perspective they should be vertical (vanish at infinity). In free hand, they should point inward (vanish below the tank).

2vp perspective is the right choice to illustrate battle, but your main problem is that the vp are too close, in this case i think having them outside the picture plane will help you because if you have the vp inside everything will look distorted. try
1. draw a picture frame
2. set a horizon line
3. set a ground level and a main VPs (far away from the picture frame).

>>7363726
1. Even on soft clothing, folds are fairly sharp and bunch up gradually around the chokepoints at the elbow and wrist. Make up your mind on whether or not you want the sweater to be loose or tight, you can't have both.

2. Make sure your contours are actually round. There's no reason they should be making sharp turns at the bottom of the breast.

Also, I'm sure you're aware your lineart is crap. Try using a brush with pen pressure on opacity instead of brush size like I'm using, it's a bit more forgiving to small mistakes. You can always line over it later if you like black outlines.
>>
>>7363742
Nta but do people really use pen pressure on opacity for stuff like lineart? I've seen it in the settings but never knew why you would want that besides painting and rendering.
>>
>>7363682
Loooooong neck
>>
>>7363744
I use it for sketching, it mimics the feel of a pencil better. You can feel out lines without making any significant marks or lightly trace out a form several times and the additive lines will usually darken the most accurate parts.

Line weight on pen pressure is really not used as much as you might think. Most of the time it's best to just use a small fixed size pen and manually draw out areas thicker lines. I exaggerated it quite a bit here to illustrate the point.

can't speak for everyone, but I've been drawing for about 4 years now and have never cared about being "creative." people want to express themselves through their art and/or gain some relationship with a given subject, but they don't merely want to be "creative," they want to produce something of quality. what exactly that means differs from person to person, but the vast majority of people don't possess the skills currently to produce the quality they desire - and some are far, far away from it. so the idea of being particulary creative *now* has never made sense to me. focusing on the craft now is going to get you to your qualitative goals sooner, and in the meantime you can study how to be more creative, look at videos on the subject, books, etc. people ironically hinder their progress by worrying so much about being "creative" in the short-term.

Hello.
I'm starting to get into digital art and currently am lost in which techniques and approaches to use.
Should I do all the linework with a sharp brush then apply some blur later? Should I use a soft brush but with fixed size? Should linework already be colored or blended with a separate colors-only layer? Which should be the average resolution of pieces? Are there brush thickness guidelines?
Those are some questions that are preventing me from delving into more elaborate work. Appreciated for any help, in advance!
>>
>>7363990
so that's it then? you choose to denounce all uniqueness because other people failed?

as I said in my OP, most people - by their own standards - are not at the technical level they want to be at. so even if they were to be as "creative" as possible, they wouldn't be able to produce their ideal works because they don't have the skill yet. so worrying about being creative in the short term is actually hindering their progress; if they were to focus more on the craft, they would be able to produce their idealized works much sooner (assuming when they got their, their ideas still conformed (enough) to their technical ability). that is my main point.

I think you should always strive for ideality, even if you can't reach it. otherwise you might lose your way
>>
>>7364012
it's your choice at the end of the day, but you are (un)knowingly hindering your own progress.
>>
>>7364015
so be it. you are hindering yourself in the long run. but like I said at first, we both have our own ideals

Try blocking it in. Draw an envelope around the subject and try to fit it inside. Establish the height, width and angle of various parts of the body. Then draw your construction lines on top of the scaffolding you have built.

The drawing surface is like 8 inches across diagonally. I'm getting more used to it now but it's still uncomfortable, the lines don't go where I want them

yas indeed. im now working on an alt of her in armour. trying to figure out how I can design it to make it POP

These are very nice. Try to do some from life as well so the folds look more dynamic

>>7363996
Not quite. Picrel is something I'm trying to draw these days. In this one I did go with the sharp brush and simpler approach. But feels already like later shading will not fit well with it...

In this one I went with a regular brush and varied blending. But the outlines really bugs me like that.

Here's a quick passover I did with some highlights and some slight hue variation. I think you should slightly lower the opacity of the blue layer you'd overlaid. In addition, the multiply layer over the body to add some depth between light and values is a good first step and is a very common tech, but it's meant to add variation in value/hues. You need to define the planes of the tentacles better. Your blues are also very close in hue, add some variation to them by shifting them towards warmer cyan tones around the scene. This was a relatively quick paintover over but it should illustrate most of my points. One final thing, I'd add slightly more blur to the fishes on the right to create a better illusion of depth.

No problem.

Your drawings are great, seriously. I saved them/ Keep us posted when you do more :)

>spent the last month trying to brute force eye shapes on rotated faces and getting them wrong every time
>just realized I can draw the shape relative to the same guideline I've already been drawing the whole time to position the eyes and it's the easiest thing in the world
I feel so stupid right now

Good morning /beg/. What're we drawing today?

Cut kot, I plan to keep working on my study when I get home.

how do you combat pen instability with drawing tablets?
>>
>>7364177
What is pen instability?
>>
>>7364177
Stick it in your ass
>>
>>7364178
my pen sometimes sways a little when I draw with it, especially when I'm drawing slowly. the lines aren't steady, if it makes sense - in software.
>>
>>7364181
It's you anon, it's not the pen. Practice confident lines.
Unless you want a shortcut without getting better - then turn up the stabilizer in your software.

what if I'm painting small details, like highlighting a shaded part? I need to be slow and steady, or do most artists do those in swift lines?
>>
>>7364181
Nah anon. Tell us right now what kind of tablet you're using. Because anything other than Wacom can cause line wobble.
>>
>>7364186
Artisul M610 pro, I'm not using one with a screen, just a regular drawing tablet while I look at my monitor.
>>
>>7364181
Use line smoothing/smooth stroke. GIMP has it, but it comes with its own issues
>>
>>7364188
Ima keep it buck home. I did a quick search. That's a piece of shit. No wonder you have line wobble. I would definitely recommend line stabilizer or a program like lazy nezumi until you get a better tablet.
>>
>>7364190
>>7364189
thanks, I'll turn on stabilizer. were I to search for a better drawing tablet should I be aiming for a Wacom?
>>
>>7364191
Wacom is generally really good about quality. They also have frequent driver updates to fix issues. I'd hit this thread up and bring up what happened and your price range. I'm sure someone can help you out there.
>>7362418
In general I'd say it's Wacom>Huion>Gaomon>XP Pen but that's my opinion.

I don't think everyone gets to that point, there's a limit for everyone. You might be desensitized to certain sights, like ignoring guro or scat whenever you see it instead of closing the browser and rethinking your life, whereas it takes specific childhood events to jerk off to those things, or women being transformed into jars. I speak mostly from experience, but also from artists who seemed to get more and more deranged but found their limits in women being fucked by horses.
>>
>>7364183
you take that back right the FRICK now
>>
>>7363886
You're scribbling too much, and probably pressing too hard. One line, one stroke.

If you can find one, try picking up a fountain pen, or at least just a ultra-fine sharpie. You can feel how it wants to be drawn with, very quick, straight strokes, almost like a flick. That's what gives manga/comics it's sharp boxy look. Just have to make an effort to recreate those movements in digital.

you are missing vagina bones, neck wouldnt be visible at this angle
>>7364061
you have massive issues with body proportions. hands either too short or too long
>>7363991
less thinking, more experimenting. use different brush and or strategy every day and in few months you will figure out what is the best for you
>>7363963
apart from it being unfinished you dont have dark tones there. push the pencil harder to make hard edges pop more like nose, ear, eyes, the outline. and get yourself charcoal pencil or at least 8B pencil.
