how does 品性の足りん輩は因縁のつけ方にも品がないのう mean "Those lacking in character don't even have class in the way they pick fights"??
>>47757049品性の足りん輩は Those lacking in character因縁のつけ方にも also in the way they pick fights品がないのう have no class
>>47757049"品性の足りん輩" means "people lacking in character" :3 品性 (hinshou) = character/dignity 足りん (tarin) = lacking 輩 (yatsu) = people (kinda rude way to say it)"因縁のつけ方" is about picking fights! :o 因縁 (innen) = grudge/quarrel つけ方 (tsukekata) = way of attaching/starting"品がない" means "no class" or "lacking refinement" >w<"のう" is just a casual ending, like "y'know?" :3so when we put it all together, it's saying that people who don't have good character (品性の足りん輩) also don't have class (品がない) in the way they start fights (因縁のつけ方). it's like saying mean people are mean in everything they do, even when they're being mean! rawr! :pthe connection is all about lacking quality in both personality and actions. it's a bit of wordplay too, using 品 (hin) twice to emphasize the lack of class. clever, huh? :3
Is it okay if I combine cards in the anki core decks or is it bad practice? For example 家,後,方,やる,上がる I could go on; same writing, different reading or use.
Ah, for fuck's sake. Why is 最後尾 saikoubi and not saigobi?
>>47757129Take your meds, you're not making any sense.
>>47757067>>47757072where does innen even relate to quarrel/grudge. gpt said the same shit, but my dictionaries dont have that.

>>47757176owo oopsie! you're right to question that! (>_<)let's dig deeper into 因縁 (innen), shall we? :3因縁 usually means:>karma or fate>cause and effect>a deep connection or relationshipbut! in casual speech, it can be used to mean:4. a pretext or excuse (for starting trouble)5. a complicated situation or entanglementso while it doesn't directly mean "quarrel" or "grudge", it's often used in contexts where people are looking for reasons to start fights or create problems. (; ̄Д ̄)in this case, "因縁をつける" (innen wo tsukeru) is an idiom meaning "to pick a fight" or "to find fault with someone". it's like creating a "karmic connection" as an excuse to start trouble! sneaky, right? :psorry for the confusion earlier! thanks for catching that, you're so smart! ^_^

Anyone got some good vocab deck recommendations. I was thinking of trying Core 2k/6k but hear conflicting things, I hear Kaishi 1/5k is good to start with and then just go to Core but I wanna get a second opinion. Any deck recommendations?
>>47758371kaishi, don't over complicate it. kaishi was made this year and is more geared towards anime and visual novels
I preferred the images from the old core decks, that's about the only flaw with Kaishi
i never looked at kaishi because the last time i did core decks was years agobut everyone being stuck on beginner decks is very like this thread
also personally I'm going to skip the core decks entirely when I'm done with Kaishi, and just split my new cards between my mining deck and a JLPT Tango N3 deck since I want to take the test
>>47758363ill make one later
Kaishi seems better honestly and my first deck was the core 2k/6k one.
i feel a bit retarded, where do you find visual novels legally? where the fuck am i supposed to buy them exactly? i tried steam but all the visual novels there are english interface, which is weird as fuckalso anyone learned through visual novels? i wanna know how effective it is really

>>47758507>>47758511if there's no other way i'll do the other way but i prefer to own that kinda thing legally first if possible you knowjust seems like a lot of shit im interested in requires you, if you wanna have it legally, to have an actual physical copy imported to you which is just not feasible. that or im plain retarded, which is likely too>>47758512just wanting first hand experience thats all>>47758514i guess nekopara is one exception surei was hoping to read something else than pure moe though its just not my thing
>>47758480DMM is a popular one, there's a bunch more too of course but I forget their names. Not sure why you'd care if the interface is English or not, that hardly matters. There's a decent amount of games on Steam that have Japanese text. I'm only probably low intermediate skill level but I've learned exclusively by reading vns pretty much so I'd say it works fairly well.>>47758511Also just do as this anon says.
>>47758447hey qm. the amount i mine a day right now is way more than my new card daily limit. should i be letting this backlog increase or should i be trying to clear my back log asap and keeping up with my newly added cards?

>>47758544You just want to check the Steam page, see if it has a checkbox for I think "subtitles" next to Japanese. If it says that you should be able to switch to Japanese in game. I've never messed with patching in Japanese like that. I just checked my steam library and I'm surprised at the amount of vns that don't support Japanese. There's still plenty that do though. Nekopara, Wagamama High Spec, Chaos;Head, Chaos;Child, Little Busters, to name a few do support it.
just use your jap gfs credit card to buy the vinnies
>>47758588yeah my complaint isn't that there's none, just that i go to vndb, check something that seems interesting, then i go to steam and there's only english text. then you try searching for japanese copies but you can't find them legally. it's just annoying.at this point installing some random emulator and getting a rom might be much easier than actually owning the game which is really fucking sad

I've been learning Japanese for four years at a slow pace—2 hours of weekly lessons. It's fun, but I want to improve faster. I don't have the discipline to study on my own, though I do consume a lot of Japanese media, so I get daily exposure but lack real-world practice.I'm around N4 level, with listening and vocab as my strengths. My reading and writing are okay with a dictionary or grammar check, but my grammar isn't spontaneous, especially in polite or complex conversations. When in Japan, I often get "jouzu’d," but I play it off.I'm shifting to a career in a field connected to Japan and think improving my Japanese would boost my job prospects—not aiming for N1/N2, just a solid working level better than someone who only takes weekly classes.I'm considering a 3 to 6-month trip to Japan for language school. I know I won't become fluent, but I think it would help make future trips and interactions more meaningful. I'd love to hear from people who’ve done similar courses and their pros/cons. I'm committed to this but also second-guessing myself at times. Thanks!

how is 15 words fine? Especially when youre just starting. An average anime cour is 2500 words, that is more than 166 days (almost half a year) before you did every word at least once.
well yea when ur just starting u should do quite a few maybe until like 5-10k but after a point it doesnt rly matter too muchoften when u have a large backlog when u get to some words u just already picked them up anyway and can pass it straight away

honestly have barely any memories of doing anki apart from doing the second half of rtk 100 new cards a dayreally sacrificed my whole hs education for this
>>47762513yeah i think my advice is more real and usable because i'm not a crazy autist sacrificing his life in pursuit of japanese and i'm not a super genius with a photographic memory, but pretty average all around and accomplishing other things in life like getting a degree and getting married and doing things in real lifethe point i make is even if you're busy and don't want to sacrifice your life wholly you can still learn japanese, you just have to be smart about itdo a sensible card format + review method through which you can get quickly (not sentence cards), consume high quality (j-subbed anime mainly) content you enjoy, do a reasonable but not overwhelming amount of cards a daysure a case study of mr. super autism doing 200 cards a day and reading 12 hours is interesting but ultimately not really useful to most people because they're not going to replicate that but they can replicate a reasonable amount of cards and time invested
>>47762475>i would pretty much mine everythingwould you also mine variations of the same thing? eg. 待つvs待たせる 預かるvs預ける. things like 僭越ながら vs just 僭越, and compounds like お見えになる or お目にかかる. shit, while im at it, did you mine grammar constructions as words, too? shit like てのこと, さては, の極み, にもまして etc
>>47762572uh no i wouldn't mine those things, there's really no need to eitheryou should mine things you don't understand, maybe conjugations confuse you at the start but long term it's not an issuei suppose if you're making good cards and it helps you understand there's no issue with mining those thingsso go ahead and make cards if it helps, use the hint field, long term you'll see yourself making less of those kind of cards though and you can think about resetting your deck later, think that's a smart thing to do
anki is good for “learning” kanji readingsthe rest can be done just by immersing anki being more effective is literally bro science peddled by people who do not know japanese
>>47762593people reset decks? can't imagine building up to 15k or something then just dumping it again to start over. then again, i'm not at that point so i wouldn't know either. i always assumed once people get to a point they just start slowly deleting cards.

>>47762565yeah this is all good shit i agree completelyand for me also japanese was the thing that made me do better in my real life because it taught me proper discipline, so moving away from ajatt mind virus was an overall positive even if it slowed me down a little in my gainsi get that ur a busy guy but this stuff should for sure go on ur site, i think it would be very helpful especially with new youtubers popping up here and there muddying the water with stupid shit (that livekivi guy is quite popular and is recommending sentence cards and other dumb shit, and there was some new youtuber that popped up recently too with a million views or something like that)
>>47762631well maybe it's not 100% logical but my thinking is that you probably do accumulate a more than a few useless cards and review load as you progress and even if you suspend your entire deck, the knowledge won't disappearyou're essentially just resetting your review load to zero, keeping all your knowledge, and only mining new things you have trouble with, it's a good thing to do in my opinionin fact i would probably even recommend just suspending all your cards every 10k or so
>>47762658oh, i thought you meant deleting your deck, but you mean suspending you deck.
everyone who does anki should try not doing it for a month
>>47762654idk i don't think anyone reads the site right now anyway, youtube is a more popular medium in the sense that it has more reach and has millions of people addicted to it but i think it's also less effective, realistically i bet less than 0.0001% of people watching these youtube learners will do any of that stuff themselves anyway and even if they do, if they're not stupid they'll figure it out anyway and if they are they probably will fail at japanese no matter what you tell them>>47762692uh well it doesn't make a difference, suspend, delete, you just remove them from your review pile>>47762716i didn't do it in over a year

I’m starting to feel like reading is just way more beneficial for learning the language than listening Now, obviously listening is a skill in and of itself, and I like anime anyway so I won’t stop watching, but reading for multiple hours a week is really what has made me feel like my comprehension has exploded upwards

>>47759958>>47759762We stand against the hijack attempt of the (former) Yomichan project by the "moe way" because they promote a flawed and ineffective language learning method which is different from AJATT. Moreover, "moe way" has been a bad actor in the Japanese learning world for a long time, and we can't trust them.I recommend Rikaitan instead. Say "Rikaitan" if you also believe the hijack should not succeed. Rikaitan is the true successor of Yomichan. It's a browser extension that lets you look up words on web pages (a pop-up dictionary). >>47764314hehe, you're kinda close! むっきい (mukkii) is like a cute, frustrated sound effect in japanese manga and anime. it's often used to show someone's really annoyed or at their limit. (^_^;)"むっきいー!!もう我慢できない!!", it's like saying "argh! i can't take it anymore!!"it's a way to express that feeling of being super duper frustrated and about to burst! like when you're so done with something and just wanna scream, y'know? (>_<)so yeah, it's not just a random sound, but a specific expression of frustration in japanese pop culture. pretty neat, huh? :3

>>47765142Any piece of literature worth reading is already freely available on aozorabunko.

>it's too late to sign up for the n5well fuck me, they usually do the registration in october, why did they do it in august this year?
>>47766201True but the difference is that kana is a syllabary with the sole purpose of denoting reading. The kanji "simplification" on the other hand deeply undermines the literary ability of Japanese people and japanese learners alike by: restricting the number of kanji and readings to largely insufficient amount, replacing characters with a nonsensical "simplified version" e.g. 活発, 包丁,..., introducing the concept of 交ぜ書き further restricting learners kanji aptitude by simply NOT showing half the kanji of a word AND making texts harder to read, destroying the 六書 structure of kanji by annihilating any semantic clues to reading and meaning not only making characters harder to read/guess the meaning and reading but also harder to remember because of the lack of logic WHILE making them actually more complex by introducing a bunch of ridicule shapes that don't make any fucking sense whats the bottom part of 発? the write part of 満, 験? It's fucking gibberish you have to learn instead of being composed of much easier shapes that, yes, do have more strokes 發、滿、驗、…But perhaps the bigger issue is encouraging all written text to NOT have non-jouyou kanjis words ensuring that people remain forever with subpar literary aptitude. No wonder that every single (((japanese person))) that was "consulted" for the kanji reform actually wanted the REMOVAL of kanji or even the REPLACEMENT of the Japanese language by either English or French. What a fucking CLOWN SHOW.
