Why was the Longbow in use for literally 300 years when it simply could not penetrate armor? I have watched several experiments with modern reproductions and never once has it achieved penetration of plate armor. In this latest one they can't even pen at point-blank range a late medieval brigandine and cheap Sallet helmet which was worn by poorfag troops. Rich nobles wore high-end bespoke plate made from tempered steel with every surface calculated to deflect blows and it would have zero chance against that. The amount of training that went into using the bow doesn't seem worth the results.

why worry about penetrating the knights armour when it will kill the horse he is riding, trapping him under the dead horse, opening him up to a sharp application of a misericorde though his visor or other gaps in his armour
>>
>>64693010
Because it won't. The French only sent a few hundred men on horseback to charge the English, and despite being shot at by archers with a 10-20:1 ratio on them, the leader of that force survived unharmed. Had the English not had mud and fiend fortifications, the archers would've been rolled over, like what eventually happened at patay. Even if you shoot a horse, it won't just stop, they'll run until their heart stops.

Plus, they literally dealt with English bullshit by just dismounting and advancing through it.
>>
>>64684834
Primarily elite troops were armored enough to be immune to longbows- as others have mentioned, due to the volume of fire, even if the longbows don't penetrate- they could cause other problems for fully armored opposition.

Brings me to my other point, the English longbow obviously has trouble penetrating full plate armor and I'm sure high quality brigandine as well. But if we are talking about other forms of armor, it has no issue- not to mention, historical armor very well could have been made of lower quality materials, and been made to be functional with less material. It is difficult for modern armor smiths to make reproductions without them being completely superior to their historical counterparts.

Not as many soldiers had full protection as you think, equipping someone in that way was very expensive and laborious for all involved. Only the best or most wealthy would receive such honors.

Yeah, if Walther started making them with the same quality that they make the .32 and .380 versions, then the problems would be fixed. Instead, they have their parent company, Umarex, manufacture the guns, and Umarex only knows how to make airsoft crap.

>>64689500
Correct, Umarex makes all the .22 pistols for Walther, SIG, FN, and possibly others. All of them are worse than a Taurus TX22, and I wish this wasn't true.
>>

wtf even is that, Nogunz
>>
>>64689515
Generally this only applies to ones replicating locked breach pistols in blowback and is more of a durability problem thing due to how light the slide needs to be for it's size.
Something like the .22 Walther really has no reason not to work. They just suck because umarex sucks.
But even locked breach "service pistol" styled blowback .22s can be fine if they're made competently, like the Taurus tx 22 or Ruger sr 22

I've trained my dogs not to accept for from strangers or eat food off the ground without an OK command for that exact reason.

Also, they're inside during the day so unless the robbers plan on pushing through a hedge of hawthorn, climbing a wall, breaking a window and waiting 30 minutes with the alarms blaring, geese honking and my neighbors getting interested then I think it should be fine.

The modern American house is built cheap as fuck and can be breached in a matter of moments. Watch these fugitive recovery dweebs mulch residential doors with no effort.

>they don't even need tools for most of these.
And then this is a properly designed house with good doors.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KI3bIGDxBQ
Note the cop struggles to kick the exterior door in and has to use a brick. If this were an unlawful situation you've got more than enough time to make ready. Interior door needed a Halligan. This skill gates your average perp because it's a burglary tool in an unlawful context and will result in additional charges, plus a real halligan is usually over $200. Using a halligan properly is also a two man job. Axe plus halligan is your "irons" - heavy irons are halligan and a sledgehammer. Use the tool to drive the halligan and produce more leverage. Use wedges to save progress if you have to re-angle.
Probably a good idea to "layer" your defenses even if the perimeter is breached. Construct a saferoom that you and your family can retreat to if you're outmatched or the perps breach your exterior defenses faster than expected (hydraulic breaching cartels or crackhead carlos with an F-450 and a strap got the wrong house or something). Unless you have a serious advantage or get the drop you'll probably lose anything more than a 1v1 against people that kinda know what the fuck they're doing. By the way, body armor is mainstream now, plates included (and plates are cheap as fuck these days) so practice pelvis drills.

And here's a really well built door.

>Generational rank system and therfore zero advancement. China is full of great ideas

It was a Manchu Idea. Historically (and within the Green Standard army actually) promotions in Chinese imperial militaries throughout most dynasties rested on a combination of merit, battlefield promotions, patronage, and/or aristocratic privilege.

The Qing Dynasty on the other hand, a minority ruling over a large majority, was desperate to pull every dog and pony trick to keep their Banner Armies loyal to the throne. Since inheriting ranks made a lot of Bannermen happy (especially the rich aristocratic ones who actually matter), they made ranks hereditary, regardless of how much it socially & militarily fucked the Qing in the long run.

>>
>>64690283
Their "problems" were them trying to get a port (which honestly I don't think anyone can really blame them for wanting), and Somalialand was supposed to be that ticket. And its not like Somalia is an actual threat to Ethiopia if they can't even deal with Puntland or Somaliland. The great threat to them from that direction is undoubtedly Al-Shabaab. Anyways, it seems like Somaliland got cold feet on the port deal once they got international pushback after it was announced and I was just wondering if he had any inside info to share on it.

I was leaning toward Air Force since their airborne cryptological linguist job lets you stack flight hazard pay with the critical language pay, along with the chance to get stationed at Tokyo if you’re a Mandarin Chinese specialist. The problem is that tech school is like a year and a half and very rigorous, because it involves learning a language to fluency (8 hour days of classroom instruction+2 hours of homework nightly) as well as flight crew and SERE training. You don’t make E-4 or see any incentive or bonus pay until after all that, so a $10k bonus for a six-year contract seems like a joke. I was really hoping China threatening Japan’s new PM over Taiwan a couple of months ago would light a fire under Hegseth, but the military is still being stingy with their bonuses.

Technically, like the airframes where they've asked for 50 but are only order 25 right now, they've asked for 120 engines, but are likely only ordering ~60-70 in the current $8.6B contract (25 twin-engine jets need 50 engines + a dozen or so spares).

But just like the contract is open for israel to buy 25 more jets, it's likely also open for them to order another 50-60 engines.
