The Beast is underrated /k/ino.
Great film but it kinda fails to stick the landing imo.

Realistically, what firearm would you need to take down a rampaging Na'vi from the Avatar films? Nine feet of solid muscle and bone (reinforced with natural carbon fibre), extremely fast-moving and agile, fighting on their own turf with very short engagement distances? There's no way 5.56 mm would cut it, would 7.62mm be enough?

Can you believe this is from the same guy who gave us Terminator, T2, Aliens, and the Abyss?

>What is heat treating

All AR500 is not the same thing. Most targets are AR500 but not rated as armor or intended for anything but what it says on the tin. There is a reason a cheep steel plate for center-fire rifles is 3/8" or 1/2" thick instead of 1/4" like rated armor for the same threats. That plate might even be meant for fucking airgun pellets considering it's germany, but .22 is s safe bet because it's 1/4" and almost failed to an arrow gun. Go to your local bass pro pyramid and check the plinking targets and you'll find those hanging plates next to the dancing blocks.

"Stronger than steel" for composites (talking about the naavi arrows now) is also generally stronger *by weight* and has little to do with hardness. There is a reason why titanium isn't suitable for everything and arrows even made of naavi super material bone would perform worse than Jorge's black pipe with a tent peg welded to the end against body armor systems.

Oh man I HATE fighting I wish we didn't need to have an army but....UGH... I guess we HAVE to because peace is important. I really, reaaaaaaaly hate that we have to use guns and warships and airplanes, and I'm not doing this to feel powerful or anything...if only things didn't have to be this way...
The only reason I'm enlisting is because we NEED an army to keep the peace. I wish we didn't have to do this....I hate fighting, I swear.

Alright /k/

I’m working on a game that has you up against machine human hybrid soldiers that are heavily influenced by the following.

>Strogg from Quake 2 and 4
>Virus 1999
>Borg from First Contact

I should note there is no nanoprobes stuff for the Borg or Strogg.

If you had the chance to arm the common soldier against these creatures, which can range from crabs that move around and collect materials, to humanoids built from the flesh of the fallen employing the same loadouts, to large tracked cyborgs that tower over humans and tear open doors and corridors like it’s nothing,

what loadout would you give them, and why, to counter this?

you do not need the CS / MOHAA paradigm, nobody actually uses the pistol
have every weapon fulfil a function, get rid of any extraneous "low-tier" weapons

the standard weapon should be a rifle as it is for just about every soldier in the world today, pistols are not needed, or if they are, make them machine pistols like the MP7

>shotgun
is not just there as a weak weapon for weak mooks, it's used by specific soldiers to do specific things (breach doors); treat your own mooks that way

>roket launcher / grenade launcher for splash
the RL reasons why infantry carry these weapons are for splash, armour-piercing, and indirect fire (putting shots where you can't see)
have your game reflect that

also, lean into what makes your mooks unique, make that part of the game

Not very, as a sort of reverse coat of plates it saw some use during the early to mid 14th century and that's about it.

Not surprising given how it's basically an inferior version of that and the later brigandine.

But they do depict them being worn in a manner similar to maille hauberks so it is not entirely similar to coat of plates and brigadines and they made Aventails helmets ,skirts and even Sabatons with it

>Grenade launching was an excellent idea for the time
I feel it still is a good concept. People, vehicles, and some fortifications are still vulnerable to explosives in the 21st century as they were in the 20th. Of course there's been more advancements in armor since then, but it's still a half-decent idea.

What happens now? You die in droves so horribly third party investigators come in to determine whether warcrimes occurred because your slaughter looks like surrendering prisoners being massacred because you were so combat ineffective.

But sure, that's good enough. You died very bravely, that was the point of war, wasn't it?
