These are a bit undersize for Home Defense - I would use a double barrel 12 ga Coach Gun with some creative loading that makes up for relatively short barrel length with Black Powder.
That said you should have TWO BP revolvers for reliability. Good Luck finding TWO of the scarce original Double Action 1858 Remington-Rider Pistols but you never know.
Just because I love to show them off here are my laser sighted drastically smaller and exquisitely-load-developed Pietta 1860 Colt replicas. I spent a grand on the guns and three years getting 5" barrel .45acp performance out of 3" barrel .44 cap-n-ball.
Oh yeah - green laser sights ! THEY FIT IN JEANS POCKETS. They are more likely to drop a home invader in his tracks than a 9mm pistol would.
But you could just buy a standard pair of Pietta .44 cals in either Colt or Remington and Be Well Armed.

I handled one of those Carcano carbines rechambered in 8mm Mauser last weekend at a shop, it was $325. Had a capital "S" stamped on the receiver ring. Any of you guys own one? If so, how's it shoot? I've heard the majority of them were part of some post-war Egyptian Army contracts and not actually handed out to the Volkssturm.

How would modern day equine armor look like?
Is there any value in protecting the head? For humans it makes a difference because if they survive a blast they can be evacuated and keep fighting with crutches but with a horse/donkey any leg injury makes them dead meat and pulling them from the front is not feasible.

I am very curious to know what /k/ would use in the zombiepocalypse. What would actually be best? I always thought that the writers for the show had a lot of missed opportunities for /k/ino guns, gear, armor and weapon concepts both from history and modern times they could have applied to the show. A lot of stuff just felt like it was missing. Every time there was an actually big faction it seemed like they didn't equip their grunts with the most effective choices. Keep in mind, it would still have to be things that you can continue to use well into the future. There is no military supply chain in the zombie apocalypse unless you are with an utterly gigantic group of survivors.

Welp, anyways. Here we go. Zombies definitely can't bite through chain mail, but maybe you still get infected because your skin gets pinched between the links when one of them tries to bite. So, what you could do is wear a gambeson under the chainmail. However, gambeson and chainmail are not COMPLETELY suitable for fighting other humans. You'll want some plate armor on top of your chainmail as well.

I do think the very best load-out for fighting zombies at least, is that of the medieval knight. However, I do think that the weapons used should be specific. You need energy efficient weapons, since you could conceivably have to fight a thousand zombies in one day. So maybe a spear made to be long and lightweight? You would want long, light weight and ultra durable. I could see an arming sword be useful as a side arm for sure.

I don't at all think that it makes sense to use guns to fight the zombies, since you'd want to save ammo and guns for other people you might run into with those same weapons that could be hostile. You would want to save that resource.

Never understood why, in the show, they defaulted to regular bow and arrow instead of crossbows. Many characters had to have the knowledge of how crossbows work, anyone can build one if they have some basic tools and they aren't too expensive to make. Hell, even muskets or a blunderbuss makes more sense as a primary weapon. Especially if you have a blacksmith and some way to make black powder from scratch.

>maybe you still get infected because your skin gets pinched between the links when one of them tries to bite
who the fuck is wearing chainmail on bare skin?
>>
>>64693730
Motorcycle riding gear, police riot gear, hockey and lacrosse pads for walkers. Guns and whatever Kevlar you could get your hands on for living people.

People would probably wear a plate carrier with arm guards and hard knuckle gloves if they wanted the best of both worlds.

Bro there is like an estimated 50 billion + rounds of ammunition just sitting around in the continental US. The country produces and sells about 12 billion rounds a year. No one is running out of ammo.

But small squad tactics with ranged meele weapons, spears, lances, halberds

For ranged bows and crossbows to not get attention, and .22s that are silenced.

Also taking them out from far away and at the edges of a horde or abandoned building and working your way in

How do we have an air force and whatever the guys who shoot the ICBMs are? The constitution doesn't mention airforce or space force, it mentions Army, Navy and Militia. Shouldn't the air force, the ICBMs dudes and space force be divisions of the navy like the marines are? There are no limitations on the navy. Article I section 8 clause 13 just says
>To provide and maintain a Navy;
and then doesn't elaborate

The air force was part of the army at the start of the cold war, but they kept having to compete for budget with tanks and artillery and other shit; and it was recognized that your strategic bombers who will be delivering the crucial nukes that will open a hot exchange shouldn't have to deal with that shit, so they split them off and gave them their own pocket money. Space force similarly are recognized to have responsibilities that will expand vastly in the next half century, so they'd have to split off at some point; so they did it now rather than wait.

Still reeling from the sheer retardation of the Battleship proposal, plus that it'll be replacing the DDG(X) project.

But the FF(X) looks good. It won't have VLS in it's first flight, but it'll have an established supply chain and available logistics for repair and maintenance. As long as they don't try to make more capable than it needs to be, i think it'll be a good boat.

And yes buying parts was an issue overall. There were shortages. Always. So stealing parts of super widespread. From basic bitch shit like stealing windscreens from cars, to stealing tires, to stealing windshield wipers, etc. You'd have to overpay 3-5x at least on the black market to buy parts and they were the same trash quality. Hence why owning a car in USSR was a special sort of hell, you had to be your own mechanic to some degree, you've had to invest in a ton of shit (e.g. riding around with half your trunk filled with spare parts), and first and foremost you've had to know people. People who are more skilled than you in some things, who could help you with servicing your car, or people who had access to things. Like having a friendly milling machine operator who'd use his access to mill parts for you from a piece of metal because it would be both easier than trying to source an original part and that nigger rigged part being somehow more reliable than the original part lol.

Soviet manufacturing was worse than Chinesium, because chinks at least make shit to save money and get profit, soviets made shit because fuck you that's why. They would often even use better materials (e.g. metal instead of plastic), unironically because there was a shortage of plastic, but still somehow mess things up and make it worse than if it would've been made from plastic. Soviet design and manufacturing is literally the fecal midas, everything it touched turned to shit.
>>
>>64685643
I hope they get some bang-for-the-buck weapons instead of fragile whiz-bang tech that's only good if you have 10:1 superiority.
Imagine $2.5 billion in 81mm mortars. 20,000 mortars is like $500 mil., leaving you $2 billion in ammo to drop on their heads.
>>
>>64694684
>Soviet design
No
>and manufacturing
Yes
Soviet design was good, sometimes even very good. But their primitive, vodka fueled manufacturing manned by pathological cheaters and liars created by commie 'society' was unable to produce anything even remotely similar in quality and/or parameters to original designs.
The 'adaptng the design for mass production', aka using shit materials and methods, never mentioned in original project was a norm in soviet industry, both military and civilian.
This lead to other phenomenon: 'the curse of magnificent prototype'. When new piece of hardware was introduced and initially tested, it was performing admirably and was often really amazing. However, that was a single (or just few) unit literally hand-made by highly skilled personel, under strict supervision of the designers, following the necessary procedures and using correct, high quality materials.
Since in Russia retarded economy and society none of the above can (and won't) be kept in day to day life, the moment a design was passed to factory, it turns into a pile of expensive, barely functioning shit. See the story of 'best in the world ans impossible to intercept' Kindzhals.
Add to this widespread and rampagng falsyfing of 99.99% of feedback, reports and/or documents in order to please (equally ignorant) supervisors and you will have a story of Russian manufacturing since 1918 until today.

Every year, every US military officer of the rank of OF-5 and above has to produce a certified corpse of someone they've personally killed in order to retain their Soldier's License. It can be turned in at the gate but it's preferred if they dump the warm, still bleeding corpse on the desk of their immediate superior.
I hope this helps you.
