I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as 1911, is in fact, 1911a1, or as I've recently taken to calling it, a1 plus 1911. A1 is not a firearm unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning 1911 system made useful by the Bridgeport, lathe, and vital firearm components comprising a full firearm as defined by the NFA. Many firearm users run a modified version of the A1 system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of A1 which is widely used today is often called “1911,” and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the A1 system, developed by the John Browning. There really is a 1911, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
>>
What does the a in a1 stand for, anyway?

I always thought it stood for alteration or advancement. US arms nomenclature is weird.
>M usually stands for model
>number after is sometimes which, or the year it was adopted
>but sometimes those numbers are out of order (M1, M14, M16, M4 for example)
>or sometimes those numbers repeat or skip large distances (M1-4, M26, M48, M60, back to M1) and yes I know there some tanks between but not 60 variants
>then there's aircraft
>Patrol, Fighter, Attack, Bomber
>post WW2 no identifying code for manufacturer
It's all a little silly to me. The German system made much more sense.
>small arms get the year of adoption and a type designation (rifle, carbine, submachine gun, machine gun, etc)
>tanks just get a "we're on the 4th or 15th or whatever design" adoption number with an alpha numeric subset for design variant
>planes get a manufacturer code and numeric code with similar variant descriptor as tanks
I know the RLM had some peculiarities in naming conventions as well, but far less than the US.
>but what about the Bongs

What I hate about this scene is

>CIA-trained pilot doesn't recognize a blip on his radar (they're presumably far away from any major airways so he should have immediately picked up that it's not a commercial flight)
>CIA-trained pilot completely fails to notice a C-130 DIRECTLY OVER HIS FUCKING HEAD
>CIA-trained pilot doesn't immediately take evasive maneuvers the moment he starts hearing gunfire onboard (even if he didn't realize that they were being boarded, he could draw the conclusion that the prisoners had gotten loose and that that jerking the plane around a bit would throw them off balance and allow the crew to regain control)

Don't me wrong, I love baneposting, but holy fuck is this scene mindbogglingly stupid.

Chevrolet told us back in the 70's that they expected mediocre quality high-production-count forged 1040 con rods and crank to last 9 billion cycles. It was a lot lower for forged 1010 parts like about 1.5 billion.
>>
>>64653949
Failure case for those, if sized decently, is typically excessive clearance in the bearings due to abrasive wear on the bearing surfaces.
They don't fatigue crack in half usually.
That happens in race engines maybe if they overdo it but rarely in (mass) production cars

>>CIA-trained pilot doesn't recognize a blip on his radar (they're presumably far away from any major airways so he should have immediately picked up that it's not a commercial flight)

Business jets at most have a weather radar, if any. They sure don't have 360° radars, most fighters still don't.

>>CIA-trained pilot completely fails to notice a C-130 DIRECTLY OVER HIS FUCKING HEAD

Visibility out of the cockpit straight up sucks, the C-130 approaching from behind would not be visible.

The "cia guy" literally casually shot out of the plane to frighten a guy, how is he supposed to know that the situation got out of control?
Even if the situation gets out of control, it's far more likely that the numerically superior good guys with guns will manage to get it back into control against the 3 unarmed and handcuffed prisoners if he keeps the plane steady instead of randomly janking it without knowing what is going on.

You're retarded. You can't make sense of anything. Stop trying. Leave thinking to people with brains.
>>
>>64652275
But skeletons are superior since that very same stress and fatigue causes increased growth and repair of those cracks thus making the skeleton even stronger. Skeletons are amazing structures and we don't get enough respect for literally holding up the entire bag of weak moist meat.

What, in your opinion, is the coolest gear loadout used by some sort of special operations police?

Here are some Australian police kitted up to respond to a suspected terror threat.
Any ideas as to why they would be issued camo uniforms despite police usually being deployed in urban environments doing quick response stuff? Most other countries use flat colours for their police.

>Any ideas as to why they would be issued camo uniforms despite police usually being deployed in urban environments doing quick response stuff?

1. Law enforcement and military often source their personal gear from the same manufacturers (ex. Delta Force's vests during the 1990s were bought off-the-shelf from TG Faust, which originally made them for use by SWAT teams) and for law enforcement that operate on a comparatively limited budget, it's easier to get the vest and helmet in Multiscam than place a custom order for ones in black or olive drab.

2. Starting in 1990, the United States Department of Defense (I'm not calling it the Department of War, eat my ass) instituted the 1033 Program, authorizing the transfer of surplus equipment to law enforcement agencies ranging from helmets to MRAPs and APCs. I don't know if Australia specifically has a similar program, but I'm going to assume that at least some other countries do.

3. There's a lot of personnel overlap between SWAT and Special Forces. It's not uncommon for a member of a SWAT team in the United States to have previously served in the military and served in units like the Army Rangers or the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment. Chances are, these guys like to keep using the equipment they're already familiar with.

4. As >>64653506 pointed out, law enforcement, particularly Federal agencies in the US like the FBI and DEA, get occasional deployed overseas and are permitted to source military equipment directly for this purpose.

The ANG was not destroyed outright, it maintains a pro democratic insurgency in the northern provinces
On top of that, the Talibans total inability to govern has led to a bunch of rival terror orgs seizing parts of the country and also sparked a low intensity war with Pakistan

I think it's a universal thing, but those kinds of "museums" and """""museums"""" can be summed up in one of two categories.
>Autist decided to hyperfixate that [historical figure/event/item] originated in [place], applies concentrated autism to scraping together funding to make it an exhibit good enough to get government funding
>Grifters slurping the government's teat, the "museum" is clearly the absolute bare minimum

Yes, the USA LOST the Vietnam War. k/d ratios don't mean jack shit if you still lose the war, just like Afghanistan. Look at the red army in ww2, horrible k/d meat grinder, yet they won the war.
Also, boasting about a favorable k/d when you are the best equipped, most developed, most expensive army in the world against rice niggers with flip flops and AKs is just pathetic

This both is and isn't true. Crying about hippies and how the politicians didn't let the military commit enough war crimes to win is and has always been a retarded cope, but there's a small grain of truth to it. The most important measure that the US failed to take, that effectively doomed the whole adventure in Southeast Asia to failure before it even began, was the transition to a war economy and mobilization of the Reserves. And this was the one dirty trick that JFK, LBJ, and Nixon were completely unwilling to resort to.
