Why is there so little media about this conflict? Americans fighting actual reds with WW2 tech is badass even if it wasn’t a total victory but I guess frostbite and getting swarmed by human waves doesn’t make for good recruitment propaganda.

As much as I am grateful for the anons of this board for teaching me about Ridgeway, it probably has to do with the whole Oriental thing. The Nazi's and the Italians though pop culture find them despicable now were far more noble in their understanding of war due to the Western conception of it. The same could not be said for Koreans or the Chinese. Maybe the Japanese but that's another conversation. As for me I find the practice of war in Asian societies distasteful and often poorly organized, you have more to learn from Alexander and Napoleon.

I've been thinking about removing the charging handle off my M3 and filling in the hole in the receiver with bondo, that way it'll be safe from field conditions. The problem is that the inertial action is very sensitive to weight changes so I worry such a change would fuck up the system

>>
>>64707901
Really had the law not fucked it it still would've been a flop based on how the LAW-12 (semi only SPAS) sold. It was just an archaic take on the modern tactical shotgun we take for granted today, rapidly rendered obsolete by the soon to be M3 and many other frankly flat out better semiautomatic shotguns that were to come

Depends on the war and operation. Anti-insurgency ops where most of the time you're patrolling and doing nothing? Yeah, 2-4 is good. On your way to storm a trench? Every goddamn pocket and half of your backpack is full of frags.

>>
>>64701358
It varies by time and place, but the textbook Western peer war manuals say 4 frag grenades for every grunt. In much of GWOT it was common for only American NCOs to carry grenades. In Vietnam/Korea/WW2 it was common for American grunts to carry only 1-2. When doing urban operations in GWOT Fallujah a common SOP was a 'grenade bag' satchel of 20-40 for the platoon to share. That was a standard SOP in the WW2 Pacific and WW1 trenches as well. In Ukraine 2023-2024 maxing out your grenade count by stuffing 6-10 plus was common on assaults.

Basically grenades are ROE, support, and situation dependent. In peer CQB you want lots. In COIN it's less important. In rural peer combat you might carry 1-2 but it's mostly about calling in artillery or drones, much like COIN just with more stress and less time.
>>
>>64707357
>Vietnam/Korea/WW2 it was common for American grunts to carry only 1-2.
I think it would be better to say they were only issued 1 or 2. My great uncle was in WW2, he said everyone carried as many grenades as they could get their hands on. 1 or 2 in each pocket of their trousers, and he had a captured german messenger bag that he stuffed another 10 or 12 into. He started out in north Africa, ended up in intense urban combat in Europe in 1944, got shot up pretty bad and sent home in January of 45. My dad was in Vietnam, he said they all carried at least a half dozen grenades each on patrols, more if they knew they were going to enter a village or town since every building would have to be cleared out, and it was easier and safer to just chuck in a few grenades and then set the roof on fire than to go inside to clear them.

Camera noise will inflate automatic bitrate calculation (when using crf) while it is actually destroying detail for dark/night videos (from a video/photo perspective). Just calculate for the file size limit of whatever you're uploading to if your source video is too big.

Usually most encoders will also be a little lower than the input limit but sometimes they will go a little over, which is why always aiming at 99% or whatever is better because you blow time to encode the video and being a tiny bit under is better than being unable to upload/burn to a disk.

Also two pass if you have the time since all the bitrate can be allocated to where it is needed rather than being ABR/CBR.

My great grandfather was a decorated officer in the US Airforce during the Korean War. My great uncle has a display case with his medals, and his service rifle, which is a select fire M2 Carbine. I haven't inspected it closely, so idk if it's functional or demilitarized. If it is functional idk if it registered or transferable.

Has anyone heard of a scenario like this before? I can't find any examples online of an officer being given an M2 when they retired. I'm also certain that it is an M2, not an M1 Carbine.

My great uncle plans to give me his guns, including that one at some point in the near future. Obviously I hope it's transferable, but I think that could only be the case if it was registered when he retired. I doubt that he submitted any paperwork for it later in his life, and I know that my great uncle never did.

Any thoughts or advice?

Contrary to popular never-served belief, NOBODY has ever been "given" a military weapon upon discharge that wasn't specifically built for that commemorative event.

If your great grandsire really did take it from his time in service, he literally stole it out of inventory.

If it's a legit M2 it'll have a select fire switch on the left side of the receiver. If that switch is absent, it's an M1.

>Contrary to popular never-served belief, NOBODY has ever been "given" a military weapon upon discharge that wasn't specifically built for that commemorative event.
I think that's a myth that has been pushed by people stealing arms. I knew of quite a few AKMs smuggled back from nam and a decent amount of m16s that were stolen out of NG armories. Sorry glowniggers, that was 20 years ago and they were aquaintences whose names I can't remember and are probably dead now anyway.

No body is gonna like this but 5.56 is perfectly adequate for dealing with sasquatch/skinwalkers as these are fundamentally human sized targets and 5.56 should be able to do more than enough damage to them to at least get them to fuck off. I'm skeptical of stories about skinwalkers being immune to gunfire if the bullets aren't coated in white ash, it would be like if they were immune to the laws of physics if you hit them with a baseball bat super hard, like they wouldn't flinch at all. Not buying it, 5.56 should be adequate to at least get them to fuck off l. Maybe it won't kill them, but it'll give them a bad day. For sasquatch it should be fine, like shooting a big human

I was wanting a repeating shotgun for follow-up shots on dangerous game. and a .22 pistol would be nice. but id like to keep this at one gun. also, the adaptor is far lighter than any .22 pistol.

squib load or did you try and shoot with that laser bore sighter in?
>I'm sure they will shoot fine out of a semi or pump but you will have to manually single-load them through the ejection port.
thats fine. Im not trying to get fast splits or anything. it would probably top out at two shots a minute. I just want to test the accuracy. but not if the adapter would harm the gun
>>
>>64707816
>I just want to test the accuracy.
Go for it. They might not be accurate but I can't see any way that they could harm your gun. I can see them not ejecting reliably due to the weight, but harming the gun? No.

They are popular within that niche. Requires a handgun like/skill and reason.

Game hunting with pistol is challenging. Most faggots reading this board masturbate to plastic long guns with zero hunting application.

Silhouette gonging is fun, but again, a niche sport.

My mentor carried one of these in a cross-draw during deer season back in the day. It always seemed too much hassle for me. If I'm taking game with pistol, it's iron sights, or nothing. And mostly, I'm using a rifle.

But not gonna lie, pistol gonging is fucking fun!

How resistant to fire is it? I've seen several videos of russians getting fried by their own grenades or land mines when these take red hot fragments from exploding drones. They do not detonate, just conflagrate in a manner similar to a lithium battery fire.

Most "gun enthusiasts" hobby is actually buying and collecting guns, not actually shooting them and definitely not actually training with them. I've heard gun nuts threaten people with "you don't know how many guns I have at home" as if the number of guns owned makes him more formidable, and not the number of training hours he has with one gun.

Great for the range and a lot of fun to shoot at paper with, but when I went to LARP with it, it wasn't what I hoped it to be. A hair below 8lbs fully loaded and long enough to catch on stuff, I realized what I thought and what I wanted were two different things.
Now, with SBRs (and Suppressors) having free tax stamps I can do different things. Shortening the barrel as much as possible to save on weight, make it handier, and save space for a can seems the way to go. 300AAC also preforms best in 10" barrels. I also realized min-maxing for targets out to 600yds was kind of stupid too, as it's a bit excessive in the dense areas I play pretend. The shorter effective range a heavier, slower 30 cal projectile would be fine, as well as a non-magnifed/fixed magnification optic to lighten my load.
Would 300AAC be the round for fantasies well I stomp around in the local national forest? I'm also interested in not having to get new mags, I acquired the loading dies in an estate sale, and I do like how well it lends itself to suppression.

They have been forever. The last "cheap" SKSs were back in like 2019 when we got a bunch of Norinco ones. Even then they were still like $300 and a poverty pony was only slightly more. The good times were a long time ago. Anyone who was under 18 in 2020, sadly, a good portion of this board, missed out completely.

My favorite rifle right now is a 300 blk PSA ar. Built as a woods gun with a primary arms slx non-micro gen III with ACSS. I use 157-150 grain supersonics. Nicer recoil impulse than 5.56, and way less concussion just making it more enjoyable to shoot.
